Jeannene Willett serves Randy Osborn Tuesday at the Off Road Diner, 120 S. Emery Park Road in Golden Valley. Open since mid-December, the Off Road Diner serves a variety of greasy-spoon breakfast, lunch and dinner items or "good old comfort food," according to owners Wendy and Bret Gifford, though they also carry a variety of specials, including homemade off-road chips. "We take the long side of the potato, thinly slice it and make chips with that, with some special seasonings - and that's all I'm going to say about that," Wendy said. "We have good ribs, homemade barbecue sauce, soups, gravies, all made by scratch. We have some talented guys in the kitchen." With good food, a full bar, a warm, family-friendly atmosphere and a few unique touches courtesy of artist Dwain Thomas' murals, Wendy said the Off Road Diner has been well received by residents on Golden Valley's sparse west side. "People have just been awesome. They're really happy to finally see something on this side of town," she said. The Off Road Diner serves meals from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. weekdays and from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. weekends. Appetizers are served until 10 p.m. daily, and the bar doesn't close until midnight.
