Golden Valley Photos: Lighting Up Golden Valley

More than 60 blowups, about 65,000 lights and a bunch of other cool-looking holiday items are currently on display at 2225 S. Dome Road in Golden Valley. People who would like to visit the display can do so by turning south on Egar Road (mile marker 17) from Highway 68 and driving about 4 miles. Turn right on Tapeats Road (if you arrive at Shinarump Road, you've gone a half-mile too far). Head west for about one-half mile and you can't miss the display at the corner of Tapeats and Dome roads. According to the homeowners, the display will be up and running each night for at least four hours after sundown and they plan on keeping the display up until Jan. 2. Those who visit the Christmas display are invited to donate a bag of dog or cat food for the no-kill animal shelter and sanctuary For The Luv of Paws, and/or donate a new unwrapped toy to be turned over to the Marine Corps League Detachment #887 for the Toys for Tots program for needy children.

I drove by the display in Golden Valley and it was wonderful. The family there should be commended for what they have done for the community.

Our friend Bob Black unexpectedly showed up this morning to assist me with the repairs of the wind and cow damage. Because he worked hard with me, Chris has now elevated Bob to Elf-In-Training status. Most of the repairs are now done, but we decided to keep the larger blowups not pluged into the electicity until the wind subsides.

We apologize to anyone that may have driven out to our place Sunday evening to view the Christmas display. Due to the high winds in our area, three of the blowups were damaged, others were torn away from their ropes that were holding them down, some of the deer were blown over, so in order not to have any more damage to some of the larger and more expensive blowups, we decided to turn the main power off to them for the night. Sorry but I haven’t figured out how to control Mother Nature. To top it off, a couple of large animals (cows) wondered through one area and tore down some of the lighting we had. Hey it is open range in Arizona so I can’t complain about the cows. Yes, it is my fault for not fencing in the front yard where most of the decorations were. Not to worry, tomorrow is another day and Chris and I will be out making all of the necessary repairs to the Christmas display and if the wind subsides, then we’ll turn everything back on. Until such time the Christmas display is back up and running, I hope everyone will understand.
