GOLDEN VALLEY - Golden Valley firefighters battled a house fire at 8 a.m. Tuesday after a neighbor reported what was thought to be an illegal burn.

The doublewide home in the 3800 block of N. Bowie Road was burning on the underside, the attic and in a bedroom when firefighters arrived two minutes after the call came in.

The homeowners were on vacation and the home was unoccupied.

According to the department, firefighters had to make entry into the home from the side that was burning because of a large amount of storage taking up the front room and blocking access.

Strong winds whipped up the fire, but it was under control after about 30 minutes, according to the department.

Three engine companies, two water tenders, three chiefs, a fire marshal and several off-duty firefighters responded.

"We take no chances when it comes to saving homes or ensuring firefighter safety," said Chief Tom O'Donohue.

No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
