8/1/2014 4:30:00 PM Keeping It Straight: The World of the Conspiracy Theorist is a Confusing One
"Facts are stupid things."- Ronald Reagan, 1988
Observing the virtual non-stop rants of the right-wing conspiracy theorists leads one to wonder why they are so adamant about repeating information that has been debunked so many times rationale people look upon these purveyors of trash as suffering from major mental issues that appear to render them incapable of dealing with the truth.
The most egregious examples are the very few who still proffer the belief that President Obama was not born in the United States and is using a fake birth certificate.
It should be pointed out at this juncture that the majority of these sadly misled individuals have backed off with the emergence of Rafael Cruz as a potential contender for the 2016 GOP'er presidential nomination (which will not happen, but it's fun to watch). Having been born in Canada, Rafael holds a Canadian birth certificate in addition to being a Cuban citizen because of his Cuban Communist father. Now the more intelligent among us realize that Rafael's right to run for president is guaranteed, but nonetheless watching the birthers squirm is always entertaining.
As to the birther loon nonsense, every ridiculous scenario presented has been thoroughly debunked - time and time again (see "A Trip To Birtherville" blog from 9/7/13) - and yet we still see the intellectually challenged positing this nonsense as fact.
One of the most ridiculous scenarios repeated by the willfully ignorant came from Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio, who presented, without evidence, the following - Mrs Obama, heavy with child, leaves the country, flies Hawaii to San Francisco (or L.A.) to New York to London to Nairobi, a minimum three-day trip in 1961. She then gives birth to a son and immediately retraces her route, Nairobi to London to New York to San Francisco (or L.A.) to Hawaii where, in collusion with corrupt INS officials, she is allowed to sneak into the country with the newborn infant. What seems to be missing from this fanciful little story is that Arpaio was unable to produce any evidence that Mrs. Obama left Hawaii in the first place. The evidentiary trail that is so vital in proving something has taken place is missing - in order to prove that a U.S. citizen entered the country it must first be proved that they left the country. Even the right-wing National Review basically called Arpaio nuts.
Conspiracies abound on the right with the latest round being the mess at Benghazi, Libya, where four Americans were killed. And as usual, any presentation of facts is immediately denigrated, because the conspiracy is much juicer than the ugly truth (see "Facts Poke Holes In Gop Benghazi Hyperbole" blog - 13/July 2014). The presentation of transcripts by nine (9) military officers totally debunks the conspiracy theorists claptrap and still they continue to spew their utter nonsense. What is well known is that the GOP'ers in Congress refused, for years, to provide funding to upgrade the security of our embassies, consulates and compounds around the world, and that lack of security led to the deaths of four Americans.
It makes no matter how ridiculous something might seem, the conspiracy theorists will run with it. Such laughable gems as the president being gay and Mrs. Obama being a transgender is just one example of total insanity displayed by the right. Another is the outrageous assertion that the government is spraying dangerous chemicals over portions of Mohave County to ... well, we aren't exactly sure what the end game is, but the government is doing it! This bit of craziness led to one of Arizona's dim bulb Republican legislators wasting tax dollars to bring representatives from ADEQ (who have no say about aircraft transiting the skies above Mohave County) to Kingman for the infamous "Do you think we're nuts?" (BTW, yes) meeting.
Goofiness knows no bounds when it comes to conspiracy theorists. They posit that the president's elections were fraught with fraud - with one making the claim that "Obama threw the election by fraudulent means" (yes, I know, the commenter has no understanding of what it means to "throw" an election). Of course, when challenged we are never presented with any evidence of such fraud that is claimed to be "widespread with Democrats being responsible." Of course that contention flies in the face of the recent conviction of a Bullhead City woman - a Republican - for voter fraud and another woman - a Republican - in Nevada on the same charge. To date, no Democrat in Arizona or Nevada has been charged with voter fraud.
Conspiracy theorists also continue to spread the lie that the president attended Occidental College in California for two years as an undergraduate under the name Soetoro and received a Fulbright Scholarship as an Indonesian citizen to do so. Of course, the facts have no effect on shutting down such blatant garbage, 1) Occidental has no record of a "Barry Soetoro" ever attending and the 1979-80 freshman "Lookbook" published at the beginning of Obama's first year at Occidental, lists him as Barack Obama. 2) If Obama were an Indonesian citizen (which he is not), he could not have "received financial aid" or "been awarded a fellowship for foreign students" from the Fulbright Foundation Scholarship program as an undergraduate. Fulbright scholarships for foreign students of Indonesian citizenship are coordinated through the American Indonesian Exchange Foundation which does not fund Indonesians for undergraduate study in the United States (only for master's or doctorate programs)
The list of conspiracy nonsense is virtually endless, running the gamut of WMD actually being in Iraq when The Criminal sent our troops to attack a nation that posed no threat to us, to the president being a Muslim, fascist, socialist, communist, Maoist, or whatever "ist" is the flavor of the day. The denial of climate change, hatred of solar and wind power, and the spreading of rumors are the watchwords of the conspiracy theorists who attempt to mislead the gullible at every turn.
What is obvious when it comes to the right wing conspiracy theorists is they have an unabashed hatred for the president of the United States, elected twice by the American people, and they feel The Bible should be taught in our schools instead of science ... our government should put corporations first and people second ... others should pay taxes not them ... those who don't think like them should not have a voice in society. "Majority rules" doesn't apply if they don't agree with the majority ... healthcare should be only for those who can afford it ... their motto is "I've got mine," that's all that matters ... they have the right to tell a woman what she can or can't do with her body ... they have the right to know what goes on in the privacy of your bedroom ... their beliefs should be everyone's beliefs ... liberals are evil because they're open minded, educated and know facts ... everything FAUX News tells them is true because they don't believe in facts ... they are super patriots even though they never served in the armed forces ... they don't believe in a minimum wage or workplace OSHA safety regulations or clean air or water if it affects corporate profits ... they most emphatically don't believe a black man should be in the WHITE House.

A note: With 9-11 approaching, Congress coming back from vacation - top of the list is Benghazi hearings.
MSNBC is reporting these hearings combined with a new Aaron Klein book being released Sept 9, 2014 is going to blow the lid off everything for Obama and Clinton.
Klein's book will include:
•Secretive activities transpiring inside the doomed facility to shocking new details about the withholding of critical protection at the U.S. special mission.
•Hillary Clinton’s personal role in the Benghazi scandal.
•Information that raises new questions about what really happened to Ambassador Chris Stevens that night.
•Answered for the first time - why the State Department hired armed members of the al-Qaeda-linked February 17 Martyrs Brigade to “protect” the facility.
•New reasons are revealed for not sending air support or Special Forces during the assault, while extensively probing jihadist groups behind the attack.
•How Benghazi has implications that go beyond the Sept. 11, 2012, attack and may have created major national security threats we now face, fueling conflicts from Mali to Syria to Gaza and beyond.
To call trying to pry the truth out of Obama and Clinton concerning Benghazi a conspiracy is nonsense as we will soon be learning.

A few years down the road, if the liberals don't continue their revisionist history, jaws will drop at what is happening in our world today.
We got the Ukraine to disarm. We would help them. Or maybe not as this week, Obama announced there would be not much help for them from us, now that we got them to disarm.
The one whose jaw is already dropping is undoubtedly Putin who can't believe his great good fortune at drawing Obama as his enemy while he continues to take over the Ukraine.
It gets worse. Yesterday, taking time out from several NE fundraisers and another wedding, his priorities, looking strange and tired in his beige summer suit, he announced "we have no strategy" concerning ISIS.
His press, ever near, followed up with this inane question. Did he mean what he said?
No surprise to especially ISIS since his non-actions helped empower them as 3 million have fled the Syria area, thousands have been butchered. Indecision is the Obama strategy.
And then this. Major Hasan of "workplace violence" fame at Ft Hood wrote ISIS to ask to be admitted to their great ranks and the Islamic State.
Odd request from a Texas workplace violence incident.
Yes, there is no need to push conspiracy theories. We have more material daily than can even be digested.

Why would anyone even need to go back to your erroneous list of so called conspiracy stories when we have what Obama does on a daily basis to look at.
Earlier in the year, he blew ISIS off as the JV. Wrong!
As we witnessed the beheading by ISIS of American journalist James Foley, Obama gave a few unremarkable remarks, never once referred to it as what it really is, a terrorist act against the United States, then within a half hour was filmed back on the golf course grinning from ear to ear as he chaeuffered his friend around in a golf cart. Great optics for the world to see.
Then he flew back to Washington to attend a stag party for a friend, then back to the vacation. Didn't appear to be giving a lot of thought to the JV team beheading Foley, threatening to hit one of our cities.
And no, he doesn't have everything he needs at a vacation spot to be up on what is happening.
The British PM hurried home from his vacation, got with the experts and dug in to try and pinpoint the perp.
There are real men and then there are...well, you know.

Actually my comments re Raphael pointed out that he is, of course, a citizen of the United States - my snide comment was directed at the birther loons and watching them back-pedal after years of trash-talk about Obama.

As usual well presented and based on pure fact. Except for your comments on Cruz. See below from the Atlantic:
"Helpfully, the Congressional Research Service gathered all of the information relevant to Cruz's case a few years ago, at the height (nadir?) of Obama birtherism. In short, the Constitution says that the president must be a natural-born citizen. "The weight of scholarly legal and historical opinion appears to support the notion that 'natural born Citizen' means one who is entitled under the Constitution or laws of the United States to U.S. citizenship 'at birth' or 'by birth,' including any child born 'in' the United States, the children of United States citizens born abroad, and those born abroad of one citizen parents who has met U.S. residency requirements," the CRS's Jack Maskell wrote. So in short: Cruz is a citizen Cruz is not naturalized therefore Cruz is a natural-born citizen,"
In any case he is much to far to the right to ever become a Presidential candidate. Thank God for that!
