3/3/2010 5:59:00 AM Letter: A truly dysfunctional government

|
After attending the Board of Supervisors meeting on Feb. 16, I was in awe of just how dysfunctional this Mohave County government is. Just because the Minutemen were discussing the Constitution outside the building, this government went into sleep mode. They conducted the shortest government meeting in the history of the world. If it lasted five minutes, it would be a stretch, with two of the supervisors not even showing up, although Johnson did vote via phone.
Before the meeting started, it was interesting to see Ron Walker hiding in the shadow of the building, trying to hear what the Minutemen were saying, but always with a Sheriff next to him. I will give him credit for at least showing up, that's more than I can say for two of the supervisors. When the meeting started, Chairman Tom Sockwell never made eye contact with the audience. How unusual for somebody who is so confident of himself. To all of "You People" in county government, the Minutemen only want the Constitution and the Bill of Rights to be followed along with a whole bunch of other residents of Mohave County. Why are you afraid of these two documents? You should be embracing them, not trying to get around them. My suggestions to the Minutemen would be for your group to show up for every meeting of the BOS in the future until we can "Throw the Bums Out" of office, one way or another. At least with them being afraid to show up, they can't destroy this county any further by any of their decisions!
Just to think that all of this could have been prevented by a simple apology, but when you are driven by elitism and greed, and your social standing with the Good Ol' Boys Club, I guess your arrogance just gets in the way! Hint! In case "You People" still don't get it! We all have a right to agree to disagree, but you crossed the line when you personally and viciously attacked a citizen publicly, in essence, trying to destroy him and his character! What scares me even more, is that you still don't "Get It."

Wayne,
Nice article!
Lets see if I can recall how it all started.
Luca went to a John McCain political event on County property.
Being non-disruptive, polite, kind, considerate, blocking the way of no one, forcing nothing upon anybody, was expressing himself and his opinion by handing out fliers of John McCains past voting record to anyone that wanted them.
In his opinion, he thought it would be nice if his fellow citizen could be informed with truth before going in to the actual event.
He never lied, he just offered written truth to anyone that was willing to take it.
He never tried to force anyone to vote in any direction, and he never told anyone they had to take a flier.
He merely provided information, and the County does that with all sorts of papers everyday!
Buster Johnson told Luca that he could not hand out fliers because there was a law against doing it on County property, and if he continued, he would be escorted off of the property.
Luca, being polite, kind, and the non violent law abiding citizen that he is, even though he felt like somehow he was being cheated, stopped handing out the fliers! He certainly did not want to miss the event. So, under duress and with the desire of being a law abiding citizen, he ceased to hand out fliers.
After the event was over he searched trying to find out what law he was accused of breaking.
He even contacted County officials on the matter and it appeared to him that by their lack of response, they did not think he deserved a response at all.
As far as I know it was only after an open letter that he issued that he did get a response from County officials.
He was told that his handing out of fliers was related to a law that upon investigation.....did not even apply to him.
I think later responses from County officers changed and said that it was based on County policy that was based on that law.
But hey, that law did not even apply to him.
Luca, trying to find out what "policy" he violated was met with more frustration when the County officials had no actual policy to give him.
It was all unwritten!
It only existed in the minds of men that could pull it out and whip it on a person at whim.
Sheeeesh!
No wonder Luca feels cheated and robbed.
Would it not have been much better if they would have said we made a mistake, there is no actual law that prohibited you from doing what you did, we have no actual policy, but we are going to make one?
He got the government run around and instead of humble men admitting mistakes on their part......they just keep their attorneys doing as much word shifting as they can.
It seems now they want to get the public to focus on a "pitchfork" as if Luca was the guy that had it, so now we should all demonize him and the whole liberty loving group must be evil.
It is nothing more than a political move on the part of the County to keep a propaganda machine rolling along. It is their new scheme to try and put the public in "panic mode".
Think about it folks.
All along Luca has done nothing wrong, charged with no crimes, no actual illegal activity, no harm, no violence, no riots, no threat of riots, no terrorism, no cheating, no scandals.
All he is doing is standing for his valuable rights and being persecuted for it.
He is being harrassed because he values his rights and does not want to be cheated out of them......AND HE STANDS and does not back down.
Too bad more of us were not like Luca every day of our lives.
(Disclaimer) This was in my best ability to recall what has happened, and Luca or anyone is free to correct me if I am mistaken)

Try going to the County Building to vote and having your purse searched before you can do so.
Dysfunctional government? That is too kind. I am very angry. And, I blame the Board of Supervisors.
Disgusting state of affairs.

Again...I see the rhetoric about how corrupt these folks are and we need to throw them out of office. Again, I ask you, are one of you whiners going to put your money where your mouth is? Until I see that, I say I see you for what you are...a bunch of complainers who want somebody to run things their way.

I usually dont support minutemen- their official line is good but when you meet many people at rallies against immigration its a lot of racism rather than facts/stats.
But in THIS case- the minutemen are right on.
This county government is a joke and a laughing stock to the rest of AZ. And that's not saying much because the AZ legislature is just as ineffective.

I'm glad to see people come forth with complaints. I shows that it's not just one disgruntled person which so many like to state. I was just looking for another opinion, complaint, by a guy who said he was a 62 year old VN vet, and that he has'nt seen anything like the politics he in his 62 years. It looks like it may have been alimented, deleted. I hope the Miner didn't do this. If the paper has done this I gotta wonder whats going on. Censorship is a way to put down citizen's.

Amen Wayne. I also wonder why the Sheriff's office is "backing" this "bored" who are in direct violation of the U.S. Constitution. Their (law enforcement) responsibilty is to protect the public not the corrupt administration that violates the residents' constitutional rights to freedom of speech.... The Sheriff has proved that he is also a "good ol' boy" and should be ashamed of himself for HIS blatant violation of citizen's right under the Constitution. Again, I advocate for the ACLU to be contacted and to get involved with this issue. They'll kick *** with these corrupt politicians.

I did not serve my country (veteran) to have my rights (inalieanable) trampled upon. All of You people won't be treading on us much longer since you will be voted out of office. Thank God for the brave people like Luca, the minutemen and honorable citizens and the Daily Miner. As for the dude wanting to bring a pitch fork into a cty bldg. that was not wise. Don't give ocassion for anyone to bring fire down upon you.
