Kingman Letter: Examples of hypocrisy

Hypocrisy: n. 1. a pretense of having a virtuous character, moral or religious beliefs or principles, etc., that one does not really possess; 2. Professing an ideal or ideals while practicing an opposite lifestyle.

Examples: Pundits in this Editorial section of the paper faulting every good social program and the "Liberal Democrats" who started them while currently using them, such as Social Security, Medicare/Medicaid, AHCCCS, Aid to Dependent Children, food stamps or unemployment insurance;

Republican Governors in states like Arizona, Wisconsin, Alabama, Louisiana, Florida, Michigan, Ohio and Virginia denigrated the stimulus while bragging about how they used this money to help their states through this Bush recession;

Decrying this administration's Medicare savings on fraud, overpayments and inefficiency going to reduce seniors' drug donut hole and providing preventive care while espousing the exact same cuts to give them as tax breaks to the rich;

Telling of tough college years in a basement apartment within walking distance of classes while only able to survive by selling stock gifted by your father;

Retroactively changing you state of residence for two years to run for governor in your preferred state;

Calling yourself a member of the "Christian right" when you show neither Christian love nor are your falsehoods right;

Claiming pious protection for the unborn while abandoning post-natal child health, nutrition and education programs.

To Concerned Citizen, I found myself pregnant and was denied state medical insurance because I make 15 dollars a month over their limit. My husband was laid off two years ago and takes ANY work he can get. No he doesn't get unemployment insurance. So I took vitamins and ate healthy foods, but our daughter lived only three days. The Doctors said had I had prenatal care she would have made it. So don't talk about how health care is available . You don't know what your talking about. I will vote for the man that has made sure this won't happen to other women, President Obama

I heard a quote from a friend the other day that kind of sums it up.

Now days Republicans have taken to believing God is an American.

you know what anon. on that point i would actually agree with you. the right seems to forget that Jesus taught that the rich should give to the poor, that greed is a thing of disgust and that a rich man will have an extremely hard time entering heaven. but god gave every man a choice to do with his life what he will. when judgement comes, everyone will have to live with their decisions, and i believe that if a wealthy person turns a blind eye to the people in need then he will one day pay for it. but you cant force people to do the right thing, thats not on us to dictate

What political party claims to own god, claims they are more generous than anyone else on earth, swears they believe in the US constitution, loves money more than life itself? No need to name them the wise know the blind will never see it coming when they meet Jesus and he says I do not know you, when you ignored the poor, the hungry, naked those sick and in prison the least of these you ignored me! God in fact will not even look upon them as they go the lake of fire for all eternity, guess the irony is they will get in the after life that which they strived in life to have to be amongst only those of their own kind!

What the hell is wrong with the GOP? They just voted down the JOBS BILL for RETURNING VETS, which was a bi-partisan bill. They want these young men and women to put their personal lives on hold and risk their lives for this country, but the GOP can't vote for a bill to help them get training and find jobs after they have served 3-4 tours of duty? How do these dispicable politicians sleep at night? Have they no conscience? Are they so hell-bent on not giving Obama a win on anything, that they would ignore the needs of our vets who did not hesitate to serve this country? I've got news for the GOP - this bill would not have been a win for Obama, it would be a win for returning vets. What is wrong with these people?

The GOP also voted down the farm bill, and now won't vote on it again until AFTER the election. Instead, they are in recess for the next seven weeks. That's so much more important! This year farmers have seen the worst draught in years, and many lost all their crops, but the GOP refuses to help them?

What is wrong with the GOP? I'll tell you. They have no souls, no conscience, no heart, and they could care less about Americans unless they're rich. I've got news for them, they would have had a better shot at winning back the W.H. had they spent a little time thinking about what is best for America, then how they can con their way back into the White House.

The GOP is made up of stupid, stupid men and women who do not deserve to be in any position that requires them to make decisions about anything, and Romney tops that list!

Steve. A little angry today? I only want to deal with the last item. My Pious protection of the unborn while forsaking women's rights to post-natal care. Poor, or rich, women have access to pre and post care through either their insurance, or State help. So, give up on the phony war on women, okay? Get some fresh air!

Demonstrating their hatred for our veterans and putting them into Willard the Money Hider’s 47% of those who will take no responsibility for their own care, Republicans voted against a bill that would have provided JOBS to unemployed veterans.

The JOBS program would have provided funds to put veterans back to work as firefighters and polices officers – two categories the Republican's despise because they receive their pay from tax dollars and therefore receive “redistributed” monies and as public employees they would be “lazy and shiftless.”

Once again always look at what the Republicans support and what they do not support and then you will know why no intelligent person would ever vote for a Republican.

I also liked the Wisconsin governor's logic:
My political party's elected officials have collectively put forward legislation, since it's their job, that says no one is allowed to collectively put forward a contract negotiation at work.
