Letter: Animal abusers need punishing

Concerning the heart-breaking story put forth by Lotti Benker, president of Help Animals' Lives Today, and the puppies they found, why can't some sort of reward be put out to catch these heartless criminals? [March 6, "Too Many Abandoned Animals.]

Surely they are bragging to someone. One has to certainly feel badly, also for the mother dogs, losing their babies so suddenly.

It is a scary thought to wonder what motivates these heartless people. They need to be put away.

@Anson

"And once again it must be pointed out that if you do no like abortion, don’t have one. In all other cases mind your own business."

And once again you fail to see the parallel that is the crux of the argument.

If it is cruel to the puppies and kittens to be killed in a torturous manner, why aren't people as concerned about the cruelty to unborn infants who are killed in a torturous manner through abortion?

And as to your statement

" if you do no like abortion, don’t have one."

That's fine for the woman who has the procedure. However, that stance completely disregards the personhood and right to life of the unborn infant who is killed.

“I rarely hear anyone complaining about the 1.6 million unborn children being aborted every year just in U.S. alone.”

And once again it must be pointed out that if you do no like abortion, don’t have one. In all other cases mind your own business.

And I will ask again – since no one has answered in the past – exactly what punishment would you suggest for a woman who has an abortion? I ask because no matter what a bunch of busybodies do abortions will continue.

Education is key. Churches need to preach kindness towards animals. I'm amazed at how many "church goers" say things to their kids like if a cat comes into our yard it is okay to torture it. Schools could do much more to promote spay/neuter programs by letting the animal control speak to classes.

Same goes for the sick and twisted cruelty to wildlife in this county. This paper doesn't miss a chance to promote trophy hunting and coyote killing contests.

Neither are effective wildlife management and both only grease the palms of a few that profit from inhumane cruelty and disrespect of nature.

By the way, Lotti at HALT sanctuary had saved 374 companion pets from being euthanized 2012.

People just don't care and are irresponsible. Since there are seemingly no consequences they just continue to let their animals have litters of unwanted kittens and puppies and dispose of them in any unimaginably cruel manner they can think of. Kingman or Mohave County should put up some kind of reward. I know HALT has certainly saved them thousands of dollars from not having to euthanize hundreds of animals. Make abusers pay. Let them know they are disgusting and criminals.
