I was born and raised in Kingman and attended KUSD No. 20 schools for all of my education through high school. I went to Manzanita Elementary, Kingman Junior High, and Kingman High School, and am extremely proud to have done so.
I truly believe I received a quality education, with good teachers, and good support from the community here. No matter where someone attends school, their education is going to be what they make of it. I was lucky to have different options of classes in high school from Advance Placement classes to Duel Credit classes involving the community college. My teachers gave me the feeling that they cared about the kind of education I was receiving, and were invested in all of us.
Without the help from teachers and this school district I wouldn't have been able to attend Saint Mary's College in Notre Dame, Ind., and been prepared for the work that was to come. I distinctly remember being thankful to my English teacher, Mrs. Gaska, to Mr. Hernandez, to Mrs. Smith, and to Mr. Jennings.
This past May when I graduated cum laude from Saint Mary's I was grateful for the confidence and lessons that were instilled in me since my time at KUSD No. 20 through my current professors. I was also lucky to have parents who expected me to go to college after high school.
I now am working at Kingman Middle School as the GEAR UP Coordinator, and am extremely excited to see these seventh graders go through school and realize their own talents and strengths. GEAR UP is just another wonderful program that has been brought into the schools here to help the students be the best they can be. Parents are extremely valuable in their children's education and outlook on school, and GEAR UP and KUSD No. 20 will help foster a community feeling amongst everyone.
I'm proud to say I'm a graduate of Kingman High School, Saint Mary's College, and now an employee of the district that has helped me so much.
