Letter: Strategy by Bob Loblaw

Kim Jong Un has again done some saber-rattling, making noisy proclamations and threats of launching nuclear missiles at a target in the west (one missile - that's all he has).

Obama's approach to North Korea (and Iran) has been vague, lacking any significant policy objective. It seems his only goal is to negotiate. Negotiate what? Just to talk to Kim or the Ayatollah? Negotiate just for the sake of negotiation? There has been no strategy direction; any objective has thus far been obscure. But then it suddenly becomes crystal clear.

His strategy is to do what he does best. To "negotiate" is a shrewd, crafty move. It is cunning, even a little wicked; he's going to talk them to death.

Wow poor angry Frank Lee Speaking and his DD 1040 just is amusing! Sorry bubba it was a DD 214, my mos was 0811, figure it out if your half as smart as you think you are! Do you know when they stopped issuing service numbers and started using social security numbers on dog tags? Your a funny a fellow who stays angry 24/7 and claims to know everything but seems to cannot remember the simple things in life such as what document he got when discharged!

Sorry to burst your bubble, but you don't need a copy of a DD214 to verify that someone was in the military like they say they are.

Perhaps you and Frank need to stop the innuendos and look into this....

@D.B.

Last I checked North Korea just put their missile back in storage because the U.S. used diplomacy by way of North Korea's only remaining ally, China. Multilateral relations - crazy stuff, eh?

I don't see what else you could possibly want here...

@oh ya.....I only mentioned my military service in relation to FLS' many references in the past to his, where he's provided no further details. I figure that 21/2 years overseas during that last major war-based-upon-a-pack-of-lies earned me the right to mention it. And yes, you made correct statements about the current access to one's DD214, but I got out of the military nearly 40 years ago, and things weren't the same then. You can go online and research other veterans' experiences during that time frame, with regards to their discharge code. I did. And again, along with AN, I do not believe that a military veteran would forget his separation papers' designation.

Well, since I never said one single word about a DD214, not sure why you addressed this to me. Also, you can see if someone was in the service without a DD214, it is done quite often. You should know this.

I know someone will stomp all over it because I didn't mention it but if you're applying for a DOD job, you will need your DD214. Also, before someone screams for a reference, here it is..............http://www.dd214.com/

"Buried amidst those numbers and period markings are distinctions (not always desirable) which employers and others may access."

"Frankie - this from a Vietnam-era veteran who found numerous occasions over a 20-year period (and much more now) to make use of my DD214."

Why? Unless you're just trying to or think somehow it will elevate you above everybody else. Kind of vain and self-centered if you ask me.
@ Nice Chuckle

"you have AN's real name, you can look up his service"

I hate to burst your bubbles but you guys have no clue what you are talking about! The only people that have access to your DD214 is the government and yourself. Employers do not have access to your DD214, maybe 20 years ago but not any longer. Your employer may ask you what type of discharge you had, they can even ask to see your DD214, however, that is entirely up to you. They are not authorized a copy of it, it's completely up to you if you want to provide a copy and the employer may deny your employment if they don't see it. Of the four jobs I applied for in the last 20 years, only three even bothered to ask what type of discharge I had, not a copy of my DD214. Yes, they do need it to apply for VA benefits and because they are Big Brother they will check to see that you're not B/S'ing them.

"Most states have passed privacy laws with regard to the DD214-in many states you must supply proof that you are the veteran or eligible next-of-kin or a legally appointed representative of the veteran before access to the DD214 is granted."

@AN.....I doubt that you are any more upset with Frankie than I have been at times, but "hate and rage" aren't likely to win you widespread respect here. I prefer the term "disgust", which is what I feel towards Frankie when he anonymously posts libelous comments which include allegations of "cowardice"! Like you, at this point I probably believe he is not a veteran, which further undermines everything else he has written so prominently here (although I suppose there is another possibility, that of a Dishonorable Discharge, so that in fact, he really hasn't taken a look at his discharge papers since being booted out of the military. I actually do know someone in Kingman Frankie's age, with similar opinions and who was dishonorably discharged and who has some very poorly-sourced enmity towards me, the only difference being he hasn't an adult son living in China as Frankie claims. But that could be a lie, too). Looks like we may be getting closer to some of this lying government's crimes in this area, which I'll be happy to further explain later.

China now has America as their number one cash cow. We are into them for the next hundred years. All this capital going into China has and is changing the nation by the day. Their future industrial and socially are dependant on the business partenership with America.

They are going though what we experienced 50 yrs ago. A nation exploading with industry and social change without any plan to follow.

Theres one thing the lil pip squeek for North Korea doent seem to get. America now is a much better allie and long term fiscal cash supply then N Korea will ever be under any circumstance.

I think if the boy king throws as much as a rock towards any US territory. China is going to slap him silly and probably invade and concur all of Korea.

You dont get between a nation as powerful as China and its cash cow (America) without getting spanked. The last thing China will tolerate is an attack on America by anyone. They need us for the next 50 years to develop their nation to its maximum potiential.

Common, common, common, you’re such an incorrect person – but no surprise there.

“I figured you would be the one to respond with hate and rage because someone doesn't agree with you.”

Hate and rage? Not even close to the hate and rage I could demonstrate against fools who post utter nonsense here.

“I won't get into a discussion with you …”

"it's been 20 years" since you looked at your military discharge papers? Not very smart, for several reasons. You may wish to look at your discharge code, no matter your discharge type. Research it carefully on the government's website for it. Buried amidst those numbers and period markings are distinctions (not always desirable) which employers and others may access. And you're telling us that you never used your DD214 for a job interview, VA benefits (including a VA home loan or college), or as a reference at all? You're not coming across as believable, Frankie - this from a Vietnam-era veteran who found numerous occasions over a 20-year period (and much more now) to make use of my DD214.

“Sorry, my mistake, DD214........As if you have never made one.”

I have never said I have not made mistakes – BUT, every veteran knows exactly what a DD214 is. So you have proven you are not actually a veteran – no big deal and doesn’t it feel good to have the truth out?

“But I suppose someone who constantly brings up a alleged career as a ‘fightin' man’ has to keep up with things in order to keep their fairy tale....er.....history straight.”

And here it is another attack on my military service. What is it about my service that bothers you so much? You have maligned me for over a year for serving our nation – why do you hate our military so much? Of course someone who likens his military duty to prison time by stating, “I served my time,” is a sad example of an American. And we now know that you never did serve our nation.

“Can I assume that since you choose to respond for "a a" that you are either that person or just their mouthpiece?”

You can “assume” anything you like (and we know what that does). And “mouthpiece” – honestly? Even for you that is just pathetic. However, when anyone posts ridiculous nonsense here they should expect to be answered by any and all who participate in this forum.

”As to Clinton. If I turned up a conservative Rhodes Scholer who was deferred because of it you would consider them just as worthy? I doubt that.”

Of course I would recognize their achievement – however I suspect you will be hard pressed to come up with a rightie Rhodes Scholar.

Just because someone doesn't agree with you doesn't make them anti-American, it's the things they say and do. Enjoy your day!

@Bob Moore.....well, "Frank Lee Speaking" seems to have finally revealed himself to be a liar, among other things. The U.S. military discharge form, of course, is the DD214. He has claimed on numerous occasions to be a military veteran about 60 years of age now. If you Google FLS' "DD1040" the only remote military connotation is through some household and other products with that serial # called the Doodlebug, that particular term itself having been coined during the last year of World War II in Europe. It was the Brits' term for Hitler's V1 rockets. If you don't have a headache yet, just wait - I'll bet FLS will be back here tomorrow.

Actually you are so far off target you can’t even find the range. What a pathetic post full of utter nonsense and hyperbolic whining with no basis in fact. To be honest I wish you anti-American’s would just leave!

Those of us who do not fall of the right wing Kool-Aid are well aware of the good President Obama is doing while the Teabaggers block every attempt to get this country back on its feet. But they are – thank God – failing!

This group of letters show our main problem. Each side defends their position no matter what the reality is or what their "leaders" do. Bush and the Republicans weren't always wrong and Obama and the Democrats aren't always right. Our country has become so divided that most people don't want to discuss a situation they just want to tell you how great their guys are and how bad the other side is. I have been saying for 20 years that in another 50 years or so, their will be no U.S.A. I think with the situation we have today, I am right on target. Obama is the first anti-American president we have had and his side refuses to see what he is doing and will defend him to the detriment of our country.

“I would LOVE to see you DD1040.”

Hmm, DD1040? Really? A real veteran knows better. Hmmmm?

“Well, I suppose it IS possible you were in the service as a cook, or driving a garbage truck.”

It is always fascinating watching you come here and denigrate various positions held by members of the military. Again, a real veteran understands that EVERY job is important and each person is vital to the operation of a unit.

“I notice you do not mention Clinton or Obama, who were never in the service at all.”

That’s true – Clinton was a Rhodes Scholar attending university in England and as a veteran I do not denigrate anyone who had that type of deferment – however people such as the Dark Lord Cheney who fought for five deferments is a disgrace in my opinion. And of course you have to love the Republicans who said they “had better things to do” than go to war. So did I, but I went anyway, because it was the right thing (or so I thought) to do. And Obama was 12 during the height of the Vietnam War.

Well, most likely the president will be defended because he ill not stand before Congress and the American people and lie us into war. In fact I suspect he will not even consider our going to war, but then the blood thirsty, war mongering Republican cowards are already on the books wanting us to get involved in yet another mess in the Middle East. What is it with Republicans and the killing of our troops?

I think if we find it a necessity to go to war, let's start with a draft. Draft the 65-80 year olds first who did not get a chance to serve in the military during Korea, Vietnam, Iraq or Afghanistan. Then work down to the 45-64 group who had other things to do besides serve in the military. A lot of these people like to use the phrase "we should bomb them, or "we" should go after them" when they know full well who the "we" is!
Why do volunteers always have to do the dirty work nowadays? We should all be patriots!

Seems like saber rattling by the local chicken hawk right wingers is about all this letter is about! We are bankrupt, got two huge Chinese credit card bills due from the chicken hawks who left office in 2008, and if one wants more of that I suggest elect another band of republican chicken hawks, draft dodgers one who hid in college one who hid state side in the air national guard while real warrior went to fight and die for that domino effect which never happened!

Not to dismiss your normal "I hate everything Obama is doing" rhetoric, but there's alot more at stake than political gains in South Korea...and that's why 'strategies' as you call them aren't always broadcast on FOX or CNN. There is a strategy. There are more countries involved than just the US (Japan has been threatened as well). This is the time to 'speak softly and carry a big stick,' and it takes a strong and patient administration to do so.

There are over 150,000 Americans in South Korea (myself and at least 5 other Kingman residents among them), many of which are NOT military personnel. Many are teachers and students and live in Seoul, a mere 30 miles from the North Korean border.

At this time, Kim Jong Un has more than 1 nuke (he may have upwards of a dozen) and, if he wanted to, could target Seoul (or even Tokyo) and cause significant damage. His 1 million+ army also possesses 13,000 artillery tubes in range and pointed directly at Seoul, and they have spent the last 60 years making sure they can supply their army for a sustained conflict. Yes, their people are starving...but their military isn't.

This is the time for real politics...not the normal fear mongering and hate rhetoric that is usually prevalent in American "politics". Use this as ammo to take sucker punches at the President and the Left all you want, but realize that the USA is a member of the global community. What happens over here WILL have a direct impact on your lives back home. Take it seriously, please.
