Kingman Letter: Liberal hack

So Will Durst, the syndicated "humor" columnist so prominently featured in this newspaper every week for many years, turned out to be a complete liberal hack (there, I said it).

Who knew? I sure didn't. I never found his columns particularly interesting. They are always filled with convoluted, obscure words and hyperbole to make them look entertaining or funny, but they seemed neither. They read more like the garble from someone suffering from a severe case of disorganized thinking.

But lately I began to notice that this "funny guy" Durst started showing his true colors. He calls Republicans "cowards" for voting against a gun control bill that clearly defies the Second Amendment, adopts the "nothing to see here" view of the liberal media regarding the attack on Benghazi (where four Americans were left to die by the same government they were serving abroad) and in his latest column he describes the Tea Party fight against the IRS as the "fight for the bottom," or the fight between two "hated organizations."

Last time I checked, the Tea Party was fighting for less taxes and smaller government - what can be so hated about that? I understand "humor" columns are supposed to be funny, but when its authors have a twisted, unrealistic worldview, they begin to miss the point and look stupid every time. We really don't need more liberal comedians. Cable TV is packed with these sad clowns already, like the Colberts and Stewarts of the world, that hide themselves behind the guise of "comedy" to spout their unfortunate point of view to an audience of clapping seals. And I don't think this newspaper should double down on it.

“Oh C'mon. You know you really mean a womans personal right to murder a child.”

Again? Honestly – again? Who is murdering children? I’ve asked you before and you always run from the question – will you now answer it?

Now I know that good “Christian” couple in Pennsylvania have – so far – murdered two of their children over some ridiculous religious claptrap, but I am not aware of women running about murdering their children. And I am not familiar with anything that provides for, “a womans(sp) personal right to murder a child!” Can you provide us with that information – bill, law, statute – whatever?

“I can't understand why you leftists are always so hesitant about saying what you actually mean.”

And we cannot understand why you insist upon posting hyperbolic nonsense with no basis in fact. Why do you righties do that – all of the time?

Oh, and BTW, I inquired – more than once – that you explain how a woman making a private, personal decision to have a legal medical procedure directly impacts your life. When can I expect an answer to that?

Article comment by: Well look at the irony?

Isn't this what the Letters to the Miner do, except from the other side? Just because these sad clowns like Colbert and Stewart 'hide behind the guise of comedy' doesn't mean they don't have a point. Have you even watched their shows? Or do you automatically dismiss them as 'liberal'?

Before you guys start casting stones again, the rational world begs you to please look at your own 'twisted, unrealistic world view' and actually think about what you're saying. It's ok to be conservative, moderate, or liberal. We all want the same thing: a better America. Yes, even those liberal hacks.

What a great letter Mr. Yong. Why aren't you writing regularly on here? You should be.

Thanks for the great clarity.

The medical community has documented a very serious disease which has taken a foothold in our community. FOXistis is a documented illness where one watches so much FOXNews that it causes brain damage. In severe cases it clouds ones ability to think rationally. In advance stages it shrinks the brain causing one to fear everything, to confuse liberal with evil, to hate everything and everyone, and to turn on those who they once held dear. (The latest target for those affected with FOXistis is Arizona's most intelligent governor - one who herself is in advance stages of this disease.) There's also been cases where victims of this insidious disease are found in the fetal position clinching guns to their chest while repeatedly yelling "second amendment, second amendment, second amendment". Let us not scorn these poor folks but show them the kinds of compassion many liberals have bravely displayed over the years.

Actually I think cable TV has more conservative clowns like Hannity, Coulter, O'Reilly, Beck etc. Lots of jokers and clowns!!!

I agree with you on the UNfunny Will Durst. At one time he was, like Bill Maher, a rather funny comedian. Unfortunately, both of them became liberal zealots full of hate who seem to have gone off the deep end. I have no problem with a liberal columnist if they have something to say. A good example is Ruben Navarratte. I don't necessarily agree with him but he has thoughful columns that make you think.
What scares me is that it seems like a lot of the younger people actually get their news from people like the Colberts and Stewarts without even realizing they are comedians making jokes, not newspeople reporting news. Actually I think they have come to believe that themselves. Huntley and Brinkley they are not!!

I think you better look again because when you look at the tea party you seem to see a different picture than the majority see. When I look at the tea party I see a group of Americans who have been duped into thinking that reducing taxes on the rich will somehow trickle down to the working classes. Most of these people are voting against their own best interest because they think that someday they will be rich too and they don't want to pay all those taxes. Wake up all you have to do is follow the money. Who puts up the money for the Tea Party? Billionaires that's who. So you think that they want what is best for the country and you blame Jon Steward and Colbert for distorting their message. It seems to me that when you describe the liberals who watch them it seems more like the fools at fox and friends. What are the new ideas that have come from the Tea Party? just name a few for us will you .

That's not the way I see it. I see the Tea Party fighting for bigger government in its desire to regulate a woman's personal choice when it comes to her medical decisions.
