Guest Column: Obama deserves credit for nothing
Garry Saylor
Golden Valley Resident

I have held my tongue long enough! First, allow me to wish Lori Gabriel-Dane well on her recovery from the heart attack. I hope it was not brought on by the ill feelings of those who disagree with her. Their numbers are legion. And, she presents herself as a very large target.

No one should wish a heart attack on another person. However, there may be a bright side. Maybe when fully healed, it will allow happy words and thoughts to spill out toward others, at least on occasion.

We Republicans simply do not believe that Obama, in over four years, has "brought this country back from a devastating recession." It is still there! Obamacare has raised my Medicare costs seriously and now threatens my health. Fuel costs are still "obominable," my home is worth far less than I paid for it, my cost of living is skyrocketing, and I am in no way better off under Obama's "care."

Yet, his promises, unfulfilled, that got him elected twice are not lies?

The aforementioned Lori Gabriel-Dane credits him with returning us to milk and honey? To world respect? To an economy that will allow us elders who worked and saved and paid into Social Security through our earning years to relax and grow old without fear of losing everything?

I choose to attack the individuals who spread lies and vilify anyone who doesn't agree with them. Like, all Republicans tell unrelenting lies, are extremists, racists, haters, conspiracy lovers and despise all Democrats ... and are tea party ruled! I fit none of those descriptions.

Seven years ago, after my wife of almost 50 years passed away suddenly, I found love, wonderful love, with an acquaintance who has warmed my heart and made life worthwhile again. She is a great wife, friend, companion, and a lifelong Democrat!

I have many friends who are both Democrats and terrific people. None are like LDG's description of all Republicans. My roots as a Republicans are formed in the images and beliefs of Barry Goldwater and Ronald Reagan. I am a right-winger to be sure. However, love of my country rises above all. Hate is blinding. I don't have time for it.

When I can't buy a coffeemaker at Walmart that's not made in China, I fear for my grandchildren's future! Find happiness, hate can give you a heart attack!

Oh yes, I strongly dislike the two replacement cartoons, "F Minus" and "Pearls Before Swine," and would like an editorial explanation for why I must suffer them.

What qualifies as a "guest editorial"? Is it perhaps a letter to the editor that far exceeds the 350 word limit AND is anti-Obama and/or pro-Republican?

Frankie

“I suppose they should be forced to keep paying for something they will never even need, except to maybe tip parking valets.”

It is curious how the righties all seem to favor some kind of a flat tax that would charge each person the same percentage of income no matter what their earnings. And yet when it comes to a flat, fair tax for FICA that would ensure the viability of the program by making every dollar received taxed at exactly the same rate for FICA is a big no-no because it might cost the wealthy a few bucks. Hypocrisy, thy name is Rightie.

I find it curious how people who receive “something they will never even need,” are so quick to glom onto SS funds. I am not suggesting they be prevented from taking their benefit even though it is “something they will never even need” while decrying that SS is “broke.”

An example would be sad little John McCain, who is worth over $100 million, makes close to $200,000 a year from his Senate “job” ( as you are so fond of saying Frankie – “LOL”), a tax-free, 100% disability pension from the Navy and over $30,000 a year from Social Security. Now if McGoofy were REALLY concerned about the well-being of SS he would forego “something (he) will never even need” which would allow three average recipients to receive their benefit.

But that is not the rightie way. They will always demand that they receive “something they will never even need” to the detriment of everyone else.

@ Garry Saylor

I wish you righties would make up your mind! You can't pull credit from him in one place and still give him credit for Bush's screw-ups.

"When I can't buy a coffeemaker at Walmart that's not made in China"

Are you serious? I'm laughing so hard! You righties wanted to put Myth into office! He makes his money working with Communist China and would of probably sent more jobs overseas to the sweatshops. You Republicans are simply unbelievable.

Article comment by: three million more kids now have health care

You would not have "Your Medicare" if it weren't for progressives who fought the conservatives.

You wouldn't even have to be PAYING for Medicare if the progressives would have been able to keep it free for retired people.

DO you reallly want to pay less for MEDICARE? Here's how you do that:

Progressives have a PLAN. Conservatives have nothing but constant complaining and lowering taxes which makes your recession and your almost free health care even WORSE.

Did you know that people who make 3 million dollars per year get to STOP contributing to Social Security after January? Yep!

The other 11 months they are paying NOT ONE DIME toward Social Security.Nothing at all.

These same people also got a 2 % reduction in their gains taxes on STOCK MARKET winnings back in 2003 ---- it was supposed to be TEMPORARY, but instead, the conservatives and Tea Party said: MAKE THAT TAX CUT PERMANENT!

And so they did.
And NOW we aren't getting that revenue to help you "KEEP YOUR MEDICARE COSTS LOWER""

See how that works?

Now we have OBAMACARE, which makes you not so special anymore -- now low income people will ALSO get help buying insurance. It's amazing how selfish some people can be.

What has the GOP accomplished in recent history? Nixon and Watergate, only time a president resigned in disgrace got his second in command to pardon him for felony crimes! All we hear 24/7 on line, on Fox and Friends, right wing radio is how they have all these proven conspiracies, impeachable offenses, violations of law by Obama, seems to me the Birhter's, Fast and Furious, Benghazi and IRS scandal's all collapsed with nothing more than a whimper! The Tea Party has accomplishd what? Almost shut down the US government, divided the GOP into angry self proclaimed true conservatives and Rhinos! I guess in frustration they keep posting these broken record repeating claims!

News flash! Grousing and complaining about how bad Obama is perceived to be is not going to make this country better. Cooperation and compromise will.

Capt Nasty

“… and pretending he knows nothing about all these scandals where in fact he is the instigator of most of them.”

Sorry, Capt, but recent disclosures have revealed that the so-called scandals (which they are not) had nothing to with the president.

Issa has been shown to be a fool – again – with the full disclosure of the transcripts he attempted to hide from the American people.

Benghazi –although tragic – has been proven to be a mess caused, in part, by the Republican refusal to fund additional security requested by the State Department. As to news releases they were formulated by the CIA and FBI in the interest of national security.

And the NSA spy mess is no surprise to anyone with a modicum of common sense and what must be done to protect the security of our nation. And of course Snowden is a traitor who has provide information to “the enemy” while hiding out in Communist China. So much for his being a “hero.”

Gary
Good letter
What Obama does is spend all his time fund raising and pretending he knows nothing about all these scandals where in fact he is the instigator of most of them.
The Democrats are pretty smart playing dumb because all the dummies who support them
believe everything they do and say.

“Obamacare has raised my Medicare costs seriously and now threatens my health.”

Curious – MY Medicare costs have risen by less than $10.

“Fuel costs are still ‘obominable,’…”

And since the righties screamed bloody murder when fuel prices were – incorrectly – blamed on The Criminal, you must now accept the fact that the president has nothing whatsoever to with gas prices.

"… my home is worth far less than I paid for it,..”

Uhh, the housing collapse came during the Reign of Error of The Criminal, not Obama.

“.. my cost of living is skyrocketing,…”

I seriously doubt that – can you offer us some concrete examples?

“… and I am in no way better off under Obama's ‘care.’”

Another curious point since I (and I know I am not alone) have many prevention oriented health choices under “Obama’s Care.”

“When I can't buy a coffeemaker at Walmart that's not made in China, I fear for my grandchildren's future!”

And this is Obama’s fault, how? He and the Democrats have pushed for high tariffs on imported Communist Chinese crap in an effort to force manufacturers to return to the U.S. and the Republicans have refused every time – even going so far as providing even more tax incentives for companies to NOT come back to the USA.

Chinese products worry the letter writer and he thinks Obama is at fault? I wonder did this person complain as much when Nixon visited China long ago opening up this relationship we have today? People have selective memories, much like it seems the right wing forgets who was on duty when 9/11 happened, when the 2008 financial collapse occurred, the housing bubble was bursting in 2007, or when Bin Laden escaped them mountains in Afghanistan I voted for Nixon long ago, in fact only time in my life I did the swing vote thing as a life long democrat, no politician has ever been perfect, doubt any ever will, but whining, crying and feeling hate does not do the old ticker any good!
