Guest Column: Cuomo clears up misconception
Intolerant Democrats victims of their own economic ideology
Daniel Snelling
Kingman Resident

I'm actually happy Governor Cuomo said that conservatives aren't welcome in the state of New York. Cuomo has exposed one of the greatest misconceptions of liberal ideology. Isn't it ironic that those who claim to be the most tolerant are always the most intolerant? I hope Cuomo succeeds in his utopian endeavors. Perhaps the apple of America's eye can send a louder message than Detroit did.

Let him stack New York from top to bottom with angry, pseudo-intellectual, self-loathing types. See how long it takes for the 99 percent that he claims to stand for, to realize their benevolent leader is the one percent. Ruling class progressives like Cuomo and de Blasio have positioned themselves as the anointed leaders of the modern progressive movement. Declaring war on social injustice as if leading some kind of a rebellion against the system, when they are the system! Liberals like Cuomo are the system! Liberals like de Blasio are the system!

You want to live with out conservative "radicals" like gun-owning pro-lifers in New York? Then live without out their tax dollars as well! Federal, state or local - why not go all the way governor? Let's see how long the already dwindling New York tax base can carry the full weight of an already bloated progressive, intrusive government and a hands out recipient class that you provide everything for.

If progressive economics work so well then you obviously don't need the tax revenue from a single red state, right? There are plenty of wealthy liberals in New York or California to carry the financial burdens of your "compassionate" ideology. Raise taxes as high as you want on the wealthiest and watch how fast that blue color begins to run!

When the needs far outweigh the contributions, that's called progressive economics. Ask Detroit how big government and big labor worked out for them. There isn't a blue state that could survive a day without the redistribution of wealth through the federal tax code. Personal income is up just 0.3 percent in 15 blue states and Washington, D.C. since the recession began in December 2007. Wow - 0.3 percent! Apparently dependency on the federal government has its rewards! Meanwhile, since 2007 the personal income in 23 red states has risen an average 5.2 percent, peaking its highest in the states of Texas, North Dakota, Alaska and Oklahoma.

Governor Cuomo needs to put his "income inequality" where his mouth is. Build that affordable housing project next door to the governor's mansion in Westchester County or in a Chappaquiddick neighborhood across the street from the Clintons or Kennedys. Send the tens of millions of illegals to D.C. and blue states like New York, California, Illinois. Let the states that traded amnesty for an electoral advantage absorbs the burden of millions of new mouths to feed. Call these progressive elitists out on their hypocrisies and ulterior motives. Progressive states helped to create these dependants, why should red states pay your child support?

If the ruling class actually had to pony up their own money, instead of talking the talk while hiding behind tax loopholes and foreign bank accounts, their social experiments like amnesty, ObamaCare, limitless welfare, stimulus, bailouts and green energy would cease over night! But these progressives have no skin in the game. It's not their money, it's not even ours anymore, and it's our children's and grandchildren's they now spend. It's generational theft!

So embrace your progressive economics, Governor Cuomo, while the federal teat still produces milk. And when the milk does in fact run dry, good luck growing an economy in a state full of loud mouth, race-baiting, Prius-driving, artistic wannabes ... you'll need it!

"to quickly become mobilized once we entered the war, (the interstate highway system)."

Uhhh...may want to recheck that. That would be Ike after his experiences in Germany during WWII.

“…do liberals really think that FDR fixed the great depression??”

Learned people fully understand the policies of FDR brought the Republican caused Great Depression to an end.

“the FACT is that the only reason we got out of the depression was because of WWII.”

No that is not a “FACT.”

“The new deal simply increased the amount of federal power by creating a bunch of agencies payed for by the american tax payer. IT DID NOT GET US OUT OF THE DEPRESSION”

Seriously, you need to actually read of the accomplishments of the New Deal. Locally I would point to the Hoover (nee Boulder) Dam project. I would suggest you read the 44 page “The Great Depression: A History Just for Kids.” For grown-ups I suggest “The New Deal: A Modern History” by Pulitzer winner Michael Hiltzik.

“the end of the great depression came after 1942...”

More incorrect information.

"we have textbooks that you can read all of these fun facts in ya know.”

Too bad that you did not actually read these “textbooks” before posting nonsense.

"Thank God they ended the four year terms enjoyed by FDR "

FDR did such a "wonderful" job that a constitutional amendment was passed after his 4th, (shortened by his death), term to limit the number of terms a president could serve to two.

The only good thing that I could say about FDR's economic policies over Obama's, is that FDR's government programs actually put people to work building actual infrastructure, some of which ended up helping the country to quickly become mobilized once we entered the war, (the interstate highway system). Obama's policies have grown the welfare rolls and the government bureaucracy without anything physical and of value to show for it. (Shovel ready didn't exist after all under Obama).

Both presidents greatly expanded the jurisdiction of the federal government over the rights of the people. We are just now beginning to see the fallout from FDR's key program, Social Security, and I have no doubt that future generations will be experiencing the fallout from Obama's healthcare.

do liberals really think that FDR fixed the great depression?? i mean, really, do liberals actually study history or do they just come up with their own "facts" based on their faulty logic? the FACT is that the only reason we got out of the depression was because of WWII. so to say the new deal or FDR got the US out of the great depression is simply nonsense.

The new deal simply increased the amount of federal power by creating a bunch of agencies payed for by the american tax payer. IT DID NOT GET US OUT OF THE DEPRESSION! what did get us out of the great depression was a world war that created massive growth in the private sector for the war effort. the new deal programs were enacted from 1933-1938, all of which time we remained in a depression. the end of the great depression came after 1942...does anyone remember what happend in late 1941??? hey, look at that liberals...HISTORY. we have textbooks that you can read all of these fun facts in ya know.

"next door to the governor's mansion in Westchester County or in a Chappaquiddick neighborhood across the street from the Clintons or Kennedys."

It reads to me as though Mr Snelling was writing metaphorically.
That would be when one uses a situation associated with a rich busy body to describe other rich busy bodies who like to criticize the rest of us, lower earning individuals, and tell us what to do with our hard earned earned dollars to help the "less fortunate", (non producers), in society. Which are things that the rich busy bodies would never dream of having in their own neighborhoods.

Mr. Snelling's mistake was not realizing that many liberals are very literal thinkers who frequently misunderstand metaphors and comparisons.

It would be nice if those given the extended forum to opine would a modicum of their facts straight (as opposed to their opinions). Of course opinions not based on facts aren't worth very much.

For instance, Chappaquiddick is in Massachusetts, not New York. And while it was associated with a Kennedy, it was never associated with a Clinton. No wonder you're so wrong.

Nope, the story is entirely accurate. Try to keep up – for a change.

@Daniel Snelling
I was born and raised in NY, in fact the state capital,Albany. I went to college in Troy, across the Hudson River. I still have relatives there. Part of my summers were spent at the St. Regis Mohawk reservation with my cousins.

Back in the day, some NYC legislators were saying "if NYC left the state, NY would be nothing." The upstate legislators laughed and told them to go ahead. The NYS Thruway was built, its exits had toll booths. We were told, oh that's just to pay for the Thruway, they'll go away.

Upstate NY has been devastated by high taxes, militant unions and impossible to achieve environmental regulations. NY had 45 electoral votes, now they have 25. Many businesses left.
I don't know who's worse, Benito Cuomo or Vladimir DeBlasio.

@Liberal Lion: If you take the top 2 states in paying federal taxes, CA and TX, you'll see that CA pays about $80 billion more than TX but TX pays about $1,000 more per capita than CA does. Generally, the larger the state in population, with some exceptions, the more they pay in gross tax. You would expect CA to be number 1 in revenue. As far as receiving, defense dept. spending is why the takers tend to be in warmer climate states, including the PRKalifornia.
Next time, do your homework and stop being disingenuous.

Anon talk about hot air, you are full of it. Look it up at the most prosperous states and you will find they are Republican led.
Thank God they ended the four year terms enjoyed by FDR as if Obama had that right we would be standing in the soup lines right now. Contrary to what people think FDR made lots of mistakes....like ignoring pearl harbor to get us into the war....
Do a little research and see what states are doing the best and who their governors are and it may surprise you....
Arizona has been a Republican State for years but as Californians leave their failing state due to liberalism and as illegals take over our state, liberalism is bound to destroy our State also.

Getting your facts exactly backwards gives you a lot of flexibility in writing guest editorials.

In fact, New York pays about twice as much federal tax per capita as does Arizona.

New York also receives 75 cents in federal spending for every dollar in federal taxes paid. Arizona receives about $1.46 in federal spending for every dollar of federal tax paid. The late Sen. Daniel Patrick Moynihan got tired of these kinds of editorials so he got a law passed to have the calculation made every year.

One of the best and factually true letters I've seen on here in a long time, but don't expect the liberals to even stop and think, hey, maybe he's right. No, they will immediately jump on their soapbox and blame Bush for everything, say how heartless conservatives are and how R's want everybody to suffer but them, yada, yada, yada.
Unfortunately, in a few years, their grandchildren will be cursing them and wondering what their liberal grandparents were thinking and trying to figure out how to save the country from total collapse due to their grandparents stupidity.
That's the best scenario. One just as likely, is they will be trying to figure out how to speak Chinese or whatever language their masters speak.

Republicans dominate in Mohave County, where is this economic success, flood of economic opportunity? Where are the jobs? Where is this success this letter writer seems to think only conservatives can supply? I am reminded of another famous republican during the great depression he famously said let the free market fix it! A democrat fixed it named FDR, won 4 subsequent elections, died in office! The right talks a big game, but are full of hot air, the present economic mess is left over from 8 years of Bush Jr.!

I agree fully, liberals intolerance, just look at all the conservative persecution, look at the false claims from the liberals and their news sources (NBC, ABC, CBS, MSNBC) lately. The use of partial stories and statements constantly taken out of context, the conduct of federal agencies as they target conservatives with nary a protest by the Demo's. If the liberal states want to discriminate against conservatives then so be it, the Repub states should tell the liberals to start packing and go where the spending is.

Mr. Snelling you are right on with your letter and I'm anxious to read some of the local lefties try to refute it....Bush's fault!
New York can go completely liberal as far as I'm concerned and they have been losing people for the last few years, in spite of their plea to act like conservatives and give incentives for people to stay.
New York will be another California and destroy itself when there are no longer taxpayers as they all move out and the people who feed off of them have no one to pay their bills....you would think the lefties would figure this out, but they just continue to read the Democrat playbook and stumble along
kind of sad really that people are so stupid.
New Yorkers are welcome to come to Arizona just leave your liberalism and Democratic card in New York.
We have plenty of liberals in this state that should move to New York as they would feel right at home.

Actually the "taking" states, as you call them, like New York, are the states that contribute the most in taxes to the federal government. The liberal states give much more in taxes than they take in benefits. So called "conservative" states like Arizona and Tennessee, for instance, take much more in federal welfare than they pay in taxes. So next time, sir, do your homework before you write to the Miner.
