Kingman Letter: Hey, fellers: The well-off 'need' help
Gene Riley
Guest Columnist

I want to tell you about this piece in the journal back a few days, put in there by some savvy folks who know what's going on. Therein they talk about this feller over in California who shucked his job because he was just getting too old at the ripe old age of 59, the time when bones just don't act right.

He worked for an educating company, you know the ones we all support and they work for us. They shucked him out with only $174,000 and a measly 12 months medical care and that's each year. Fellers, you and I know he can't make beans on that and he sure has a tough row to hoe. That company that we support and works for us just ain't letting those folks off with much!

Now let's just suppose he has a wife and some youngins. What's going to happen to him? Fellers, are you following here with me? That's a pretty paltry sum he's left with. A feller could starve to death and it would be unknown to all of us.

You know, fellers, I'm pushing 85 and when I was 10, I heard talk around that those learners working for those educating companies, the ones we support and they're working for us, just weren't making enough and were on hard times! He must have started out as one of them learners and right there is proof they were right.

Let me ask you fellers - how do you think those who started out higher up the ladder than those learners can possibly make it? Shucks, they are going to be worse off than he is! Are you still with me here, fellers? You and I know we couldn't make it under such conditions as those. It's dang near impossible.

Get with me now on this, feller. Suppose we dig down deep in our pockets, and we all know we have deep pockets. Some of us with an unemployment check once in a while, a lot of us on minimum wages, some underemployed and a great big bunch not working at all. Fellers, we have to get together and sweep some funds his way and help him out. Are you with me on this one, fellers?

One good thing we got going and coming our way is that our president says more jobs are coming and things are getting better, and he just ain't whistling Dixie! Fellers, if you're half a mind as I am, we gotta grab the bull by the horns and help folks like that out. Fellers, are you still with me here? One thing that crossed my mind is everyone is just not living as high on the hog as we are.

Suppose these fellers working for these companies that work for us and we support decide that they can't see a good ending to their jobs and join together in some agreement or union and decide to take their companies over - what's for us then? Our lavish lifestyle could be over. Fellers, if we don't hang together, we could starve separately. You know, this could become an epidemic! We just can't stand by and watch these folks go for want! Are you with me on this, fellers? I sure hope so.

Without us working stiffs, there just won't be any salvation. Let's all put our minds in one big lump and try to figure out what's going on and what could be the worst thing that could happen, and come up with some ideas that we could bring to fruition. Thanks fellers, for hearing me out and I know we can pull together on this one.

@Tj

“anson will never point out one of the many lies and failures of obama.”

I have challenged you on numerous occasions to post those “lies and failures” of Obama and still you come here more worried about me than actually posting anything of substance. What’s up with that?

“Please cite at least one, just one, only one Obama lie, just to dispel any notion that the leftist lunatics haven't been totally brainwashed from drinking the kookaid. Failure to cite just one lie will reflect a lack of intellectual integrity and a desperate clinging to the Obama myth. C'mon, just one.”

Hmm, let me think – got one, “My worthy opponent” in reference to Willard the Money Hider. How’s that?

anson will never point out one of the many lies and failures of obama. in fact he wont say anything bad about someone with a (D) next to their name. but thats besides the point, i was just stating that this article is extremely hard to read..and doesnt make much sense just from a literary aspect.

Dear Mr Riley you are so right that the rich need are help. And I guess you could say that a school administrator in Ca. is way over paid. It's hard to tell because you didn't tell us much about this fella you was going on about. Was he a top executive in the school system and what would that job pay if he were a banker or a CEO at oh I don't know Bain Capitol lets just say? When you was a little wipper snapper a CEO used to make 40 times what a worker in his factory made. But now its more like 400 times what a worker makes. I know these rich fellows do an awful lot for us little people but are they really that valuable or do they just have a big advantage. Seems to me Mr Riley things have got a little backward, as of late. I know you was just funning us a little with your letter but gosh darn it all I know you want to keep the job creators happy so they will keep creating all those jobs here in Kingman

"My friends across the aisle are intelligent and caring people."

Amusing how the rich and right wing politicians do funny cute fake photo ops as if they really cared about that 47% and them poor lazy, shiftless folks!

@gene. Sorry, but only bits and pieces of what ever it was you were thinking, fail to reach out and touch me. Maybe next time..................................:)

Come to think of it, the last debate I tune into. Sounded about the same. "out of tune" and it didn't resonate all that well ether, Perhaps it just me.

So as hypothetical as this letter seems to be, let's think about this....

Cost of living in Kingman: 95% of the national average.

Cost of living in San Francisco 163% the national average.

Meaning that this "person working for an education company" would be earning $101,000 a year if this situation could be translated to Kingman.

No clue is given as to if this person is only a teacher or the president of a public university. So anything's possible.

Also some facts about CA teacher retirement benefits - looks like they pay for it, fellers!

Then again, California schools still outperform Arizona schools, but then again, when was reading ever important?

@Woe Is Us

Won't happen...will never happen. He's stated quite plainly that he would never say anything bad about a Dem or anything good about a Repub. At least he stands by his guns...gotta give him that.

Its called humor, "fellers." Not quite up to Will Rogers standards, but amusing. I don't think Gene was commending Obama. Nephew, since you and other dimocrats insist that everything said by Republicans is all lies, I want to extend a challenge. Please cite at least one, just one, only one Obama lie, just to dispel any notion that the leftist lunatics haven't been totally brainwashed from drinking the kookaid. Failure to cite just one lie will reflect a lack of intellectual integrity and a desperate clinging to the Obama myth. C'mon, just one.

he's saying that this retired school teacher/administrator is making more money than (probably) more competent or worthy folks from other occupations, wryly suggesting that we help the undeserving "feller" out financially after he has already soaked us over the years on the taxpayers' dime. I resort to wry humour occasionally, but the unenlightened amongst you tend to see only the one-off meaning. And Maybe if Obama had honoured his major campaign promises - such as closing Guantanamo and repealing the criminally-misnomered Patriot Act or at least some of its worst provisions - people could just contain their animosity to his general anti-American viewpoints (that is to define 'American' in terms of what the first several generations here found to be virtuous, and business-friendly).

“Go see the movie Obama's America 2016 !”

Saw it and it is pathetic with lies and more lies. It was a waste of money, but did show just how sadly desperate the Right Wing Loons are.

I gotta admit I agree with both posters. This thing makes little to no sense.

Gene Riley , You think Obama's your man ?...
Instead of "grabing the bull by the hornes" why don't you take a look at all the jobs obama and his regime have killed ?...... or the National Debt ?.
Go see the movie Obama's America 2016 !

I am sure that this is an attempt to be sarcastic about something but I am not following what it is that the writer means to say.
Maybe we could devote space on this page for news or information? Just a thought.
