Kingman Letter: Our grandkids are in big trouble

Once again our elected officials have totally failed us. Congress cannot agree on a budget.

On Jan. 1 our taxes will rise and many programs will come to a roaring stop. Not that this is all bad - some of this is a good thing. What's more troubling is the way it came about. We as a nation have not had a budget in over 1,300 days. That means the people we have elected have failed us for almost four years. Our president and half of the Senate must not think this is important since they have been on vacation this week.

Last year our nation's credit rating was lowered for the first time in our history. Experts say if we hit the cliff it will happen again. Some experts also say it could result in a loss of over 2 million jobs if our congressmen can't stop voting party and begin to vote for the people who elected them.

I'm not smart enough to know how to fix this nightmare but I have been around long enough to know my grandkids are in big trouble.

John G. Kirby Sr.

“Reagan shut government down when he needed to and it worked very effectively.”

Would you please provide the exact dates when Reagan, “shut the government down?” Thank you. All I remember are his tax cuts for the rich that resulted in his raising taxes eleven times in an attempt to get the economy back on its feet – which he never accomplished.

“He always uses scare tactics and has already started them again for the upcoming debt ceiling battle.”

You are aware that the debt ceiling addresses money ALREADY spent by Congress? In other words the increase in the debt ceiling is to cover the credit-card style spending of Congress and has nothing to do with any upcoming spending.

“You should listen to Mark Levin on our Amendments and learn something.”

The only thing anyone could ever “learn” from Mark Levin is just how wrong one pathetic right wing loon can be on so many things.

Entitlement a left wing creation? I had to laugh at this right wing explanation for the word entitlement which the right wing uses prolifically as if it was some nasty social disease! Social Security was not a republican idea, in fact they have generally hated it from day one, FDR and the democratic party get this credit, Hoover gets credit for them homeless shanty towns of unemployed which for all eternity bear his nick name Hoovervilles! 48 hours of less the wanna-be journalists on line and majority of journalists opinions on history are gone into cyber space nothingness, historians will write of this era and not kindly to the republican party I imagine since 2000-2008 has a strange similarity to how they ended 1928!

Re: Sidwell Friends School

There are 2 campuses. From their website:

"For the 2012-2013 school year, 1,123 students (564 boys and 559 girls) are enrolled. Forty-four percent of the student body are students of color. Twenty-three percent of the student body receive $6.1 million of need-based financial assistance. The School employs 152 teachers and 101 administrative and support staff. Tuitions for the 2012-13 school year are $33,268 (prekindergarten-grade 4) and $34,268 (grades 5-12). "

"Support staff" includes nine active security officers, and other support and administrate security staff. This is a Quaker school, there should be no armed security officers.

But, remember that Richard Nixon grew up as a Quaker, and promoted a deadly massive expansion of the War in Vietnam. He and I both grew up as Quakers in the same town. Anything is possible.

Social Security is an entitlement, (spelled with an "e"), because the government MUST send out the checks even if the government misses payments to other programs. People paid into the fund and they are entitled to their benefits.

This entitlement business is one more example of the left high jacking the language. They started calling welfare an entitlement, which it isn't. No one is entitled to welfare. Recipients have a responsibility to take steps to remediate their situations and return to bring self sufficient.

Now that welfare has been called an entitlement by the left, there is a whole class of people who feel entitled to living off money that has been earned by others with no responsibility on their part to improve their circumstances. Additionally, people now equate this entitled welfare attitude with the actual entitlement SS recipient have to their SS income.

Low Information Voters:

It's 4.2 Trillion in debt. So I left out a dot in one place and BM, the $10T on inaug day 2009 is there. Try reading. From there to here is now $16T.

Including unfunded liabilities of $87 T, we are well over $100 T in debt - some think as high as $144T. Greek tragedy time but you libs could care less.

Our GDP was a DISMAL 2.2% last year. That is pathetic. What do libs need - an anvil dropped on your heads before you see the dismal failure this president is?

And now, to make matters worse, he will nominate Hagel for DOD. An Israeli hater, didn't want sanctions against Iran. Goes along with his worst nominations. Arrogant, thinking he has a mandate (he doesn't), he is trying to push it as far as he can. It will bite him in the rear one of these days.

He always uses scare tactics and has already started them again for the upcoming debt ceiling battle. Reagan shut government down when he needed to and it worked very effectively. The big obama lie is there is no money and we will default on our debt. No, we have money for that. He let's the LIV's think we will have no police, no FD, etc. A POTUS using scare tactics and class warfare. Unbelievable.

BM - I type over 100 cwpm - don't need copy/paste - that would be YOU.

Stokes: David??? You should listen to Mark Levin on our Amendments and learn something. No good to stay with the LIV's too long.

“Then he wants to cut social security, calling it an intitlememt, …”

Actually it is the Republicans that favor cutting Social Security not the president. Obama has suggested (and I do not agree with him) that perhaps a different standard be set for the Social Security COLA that would in no way “cut” social security benefits, but reduce future COLAs.

As I have pointed out many times the best way to make SS viable for all time is to remove the earnings cap (and curiously no one here ever wants to discuss that proposal). My second thought – that was also ignored – is that those on Social Security and Medicare be allowed to ONLY extract as much from either system as we put in. Any thoughts?

Nope, he did not. Even your own figures (cut and pasted from some Right Wing Loon Website) indicates that there was already over $10 trillion of debt when Obama took office and as I have pointed out a goodly chunk of what has been added since Obama took office comes from putting the cost of the wars and other unfunded Criminal mandated programs into the budget.

“And you still blame Bush.”

Yep, because he tried to hoodwink the intellectually challenged by not putting the above into the budget.

“Who will you blame in 2017 LOW INFORMATION VOTER?”

Bush, because it will still be his fault. And what’s with the “low information voter” crap? I’m not the one who backed an anti-American idiot who hid his tax records along with hiding his money off-shore and did not really want to be president

First Oboma says, "Cut back on spending." Yet he spends more, going on vacations or sending his wife and her friends on trips, than most of us make in a lifetime. Second, he wants to tax the wealthy yet two of his advisors are some of the most wealthy in the world. Do you think they will pay extra taxes? In fact Oboma himself made a million or two himself last year. Do you think he and his family will cut back.....NO.NO.NO.Then he wants to cut social security, calling it an intitlememt, when in fact the money was paid in by hard working Americans like my self (ie: I paid in for 52 years, and for many of those I paid the maximum. Congress and the democrats took that money, put it into the general fund and had a ball spending it. Social Security is not an intitlement. It's money that came out of our checks every payday. All Americans, republicans and democrats, should step up and force congress to replace that money. And the biggest screwing was with the current tax cuts to new home buyers yet we send $ 750 million overseas to rerbuild mosques and put internet in them. Do you thionk this is best for America? Wake up and smell the roses America before it is too late.

CNS News - The Obama administration passed another fiscal milestone this week, according to new data released by the Treasury Department. As of the close of business on Oct. 3, 2011 the total national debt was $14,837,099,271,196.71—up about $44.8 billion from Sept. 30.

Meaning, in less than 3/12 yrs under Obama, federal debt increased by $4212 Trillion - more than the natl debt of $4,1672T accumulated by the first 41 POTUS's combined.

This $4.212-trillion increase means during o's term so far, the feds have borrowed an additional $35,835 for ever household -$44,980 for every FT private sector worker (According to Census Bureau, there were 117,536,000 households in country in 2010, Bureau of Labor Stats , there were 93,641,000 FT private-sector workers)

Inauguration day, 1-20-09, Treaury Dept reports total natl debt at $10,626,877,048.08

At the end of January 1993, the month that President George H. W. Bush left office, the total national debt was $4.1672 trillion, according to the Treasury. Thus, the total national debt accumulated by the first 41 presidents combined was about $44.8 billion less than the approximately $4.212 trillion in new debt added during Obama’s term.

986 days in office, Obama's debt was running $4.27 BILLION per day. Continuing at that rate until Jan 20, 2013, the debt would stand at $16,86534 Triillion- an increase of more than $6.2 Trillion for Obama's four years.

That would equal about $53,000 for each American household.

AND WE ARE TO THAT DATE AND HE INDEED GOT IT UP TO $16 TRILLION AND MORE. He's an amazing destroyer. And you still blame Bush. Who will you blame in 2017 LOW INFORMATION VOTER?

“Unemployment rate up again for December but unreported as usual,” Followed by “What was also not reported …”

So if it these stories were “unreported” how do you know about them?

“Does anyone ever see a liberal who posts on here ever even mention the $16Trillion debt we are in?”

Yes, I have addressed this point numerous times and pointed out that the largest segment of that debt came during the Reign of Error of The Criminal who kept two wars “off the books” so we wouldn’t know just what a mess he had put us into. And of course there were many unfunded mandates that The Criminal foisted on us that still had to be paid for.

Unemployment rate up again for December but unreported as usual. What is being reported is 155,000 jobs created. Let's look at the truth.

The way the liberal press reports it is as follows. November the UE rate was reported as 7.7%. They correct and revise it a couple of weeks after this each month so it actually went up then too, to 7.8%. The liberal press NEVER reports the revision.

So it was already 7.8% and now, is being reported as 7.8%. NO CHANGE they said. Good news! Nope! That will be revised in a week or two and will undoubtedly go up again. That again, will go unreported.

What was also not reported is that jobs for young blacks is now up to 22% unemployment. This month, women and minorities unemployment rates have also gone up.

It was 13.2% and is now 14%.

Does anyone ever see a liberal who posts on here ever even mention the $16Trillion debt we are in? Do they ever post they are worried about this unsustainable debt, 4T more coming and no way to pay it down?

And no, we cannot have the Feds create a platinum coin worth a trillion each, deposit a few in the Treasury and think it will pay off our debt. But thanks Gerald Nadler and many liberal American professors. More proof you all need to be institutionalized.

Heritage Foundation - Federal workforce continues to grow under Obama. 2011

In the beginning of the last recession (December 2007) the private sector workforce has shrunk by 6.6% while shedding more than 7.5 million jobs. Over that same time period, the federal government workforce (excluding Census and Postal workers) has grown by 11.7% while adding 230,000 jobs.

This trend has continued throughout the Obama Administration. Since President Barack Obama was sworn into office, the private sector workforce has shrunk by 2.6% while shedding 2.9 million jobs while the federal workforce (excluding Census and Postal workers) has grown by 7% while adding more than 144,000 jobs.

Now, President Obama’s FY 2012 budget proposes adding even more people to the federal payroll. Specifically, the President wants to create an additional 15,000 federal government jobs including 4,182 additional Internal Revenue Service employees 1,054 of which will be needed to implement Obamacare alone.
The problem with all these additional government jobs is that government spending does not create the economic growth needed to sustain private sector job growth. Heritage analysts James Sherk and Rea Hederman

Heritage Foundation has the charts and experts explaining how we cannot sustain the huge government under obama. INCLUDING OBAMACARE.

Ah yes! CNN today with Oliver Stone on to celebrate the life of Hugo Chavez. Chavez, at death's door, may be no more soon. That will be a good thing for the planet.

The pro Chavez CNN people wondering about the poor Venezuelan's if Chavez can no longer run the country. Well, according to left winger Stone, Chavez was the savior of that country. Remember the Che Gueverra T-shirts. We will probably see Hugo Chavez T's after he dies - not in his country but in our own.

More fodder for The Low Information Americans. Who could have believed an American network would be celebrating the life of a Hugo Chavez.

The same network that allowed a crass, not funny comedienne to simulate sex with homosexual Anderson Cooper on their New Years Eve show - broadcast to the entire world. Some of the world must be scratching their head at the downturn of our country.

“Like our Founders, Obama has his own original intent and from the beginning, has pushed for a humongous government, thereby successfully controlling US with his wise and beneficit wisdom (NOT!).”

Actually the overall size of government has decreased since Obama took office and the deficit has fallen by nearly 4%. Darn those facts!

“These, the asset wealthy, got away scot free.-5% capitol gains is all.”

Uhh, what is a “-5%?” The way I saw it was that capital gains rose by a solid 5% from 15% to 20% which is a 33% increase.

“The income wealthy did not. THEY GOT AXED BIG TIME. They are the working wealthy, often business owners who will have to lay off, cut hours, etc.”

Big time, really? A 4% hike is BIG TIME! A return to the Clinton Era rates (remember 22 million jobs created, biggest economic boom since the 1950s, a balanced budget and a surplus when he left office) is being “AXED BIG TIME?” And small business owners – the supposed backbone of our economy – did not get nailed with any tax increase. As to the “working wealthy” laying off and cutting hours – they have been doing that ever since The Criminal instituted his stupid tax cuts and they obviously – look at unemployment figures – never “created” any jobs. They hid their money off-shore instead to avoid paying taxes.

We were shedding jobs at the rate of 750,000 a month as The Criminal’s Reign of Error wound down and now we have had a solid 37 months of positive job growth under Obama.

BTW. Peter Ferrara is a right wing loon who wants to privatize Social Security and writes for Right Wing Loon publications, so it is impossible to trust anything he says. .

“So let me get this straight, on the Sidwell-Friends school, what you are saying is only children of the wealthy deserve protection?”

No, I have no such statement and you need to understand the written word. I said that Sidwell Friends (no hyphen) is a PRIVATE SCHOOL and how they handle their security – as paid for by the parents who choose to send their children there - is their own business. I further said that if parents are willing to cough up thousands of dollars a year to put in place world class security in the public schools I will support their efforts completely – however I will not help to fund such actions.

“By God, they're going to make those dirty wealthy white men pay more.”

Why do have such a low opinion of the wealthy and why do you limit your disdain to wealthy white men?

“So dumb, it doesn't matter that they are paying more too - and causing the wealthy to lay off workers.”

Uhh, the “wealthy” have been laying off workers (and not creating jobs) for the entire 12 years we suffered under The Criminals nonsensical tax cuts (and I cite Willard as an example). And of course you have failed to note that this bill will prevent tax increases on 98% of the families in this nation – those figures include your children and mine.

“Because that is EXACTLY what you are saying.”

As usual not even close.

What an amazing turn-around from your posts of just a few weeks ago when you were blaming the president for not doing more for the hurricane victims. Now you are blaming the victims for not having insurance.

In the history of our nation this is the first time – thanks to the Republicans – that we, as a nation have not stepped up with immediate aid for those devastated by a natural disaster.

How shameful of anyone to side with Boehner and the obstructionists in this mess.

@ Mr. Kirby Sr. What? on this green earth, makes you believe our Grandchildren are in big trouble. Because if they are, by what standard are you referring too. Economically, Sociably. Because if your speaking in Economic terms, one little push of a button and everything we owe is payed in full, It is just that simple.

Can we spend like there is no tomorrow? Must be, because I believe that is exactly what our government has been doing for a very very long time. Your money is printed in the same place as mine, it's managed by the same people. Our population is still growing, we are living longer, the race cars are still racing on Sundays We have more bowl games then ever before And my all time favorite THE U.S. NAVY CONTINUES TO DOMINATE ARMY.

So where is all this trouble I should be telling my children, grandchildren about? I have helped take care of my parents and grandparents even tho they never ask for it and my children are there when I need them. All I ask my government to do, is do your job, don't try and B.S. me and especially don't whisper in my right or left ear, that really annoys the mell out of me.

P.S. past 65 and you cannot get a good burger for 00.25 anymore.

#1. I totally sympathize with the victims. However, when you buy a home, you have to buy homeowners insurance. Why are there so many that apparently do not have their own insurance to rebuild their homes? And flood insurance.

#2. $40 billion of this bill is added on crap, much of which has absolutely NOTHING to do with Sandy victims. So we have to shell out $60 billion to get $20 billion to the victims?

Perhaps this is why Mr. Boehner balked for a day or two. This is obscene that we cannot even pass a bill without add ons that have absolutely NOTHING to do with the bill.

We have lost our minds in this country, throwing money around like there's no tomorrow. Well, we're here. I don't think there is going to be a tomorrow for America. Once you lose a country, I don't see any ever really coming back. Ours going down will affect the entire world.

BM:

Peter Ferrara, writing for Forbes last summer, said obama is the biggest government spender in world history, not just our country. The record shows the truth of this.

The other night, obama spoke his usual, taxing those evil rich people. His hatred for the rich borders on some form of insanity for we have always lauded success in America. He spoke of wealthy corps not using loop holes ((how dare they use something legal) and he claimed the greatest policy victory in 20 years.

Speaking to the Low Information Voters this week he has assured there will never be a tax cut without a matching tax increase forever. The Low Incomes cheer.

Like our Founders, Obama has his own original intent and from the beginning, has pushed for a humongous government, thereby successfully controlling US with his wise and beneficit wisdom (NOT!). He must continue spending at breakneck speed and today, his campaign team message says more taxes on the wealthy are coming. This week wasn't enough. Yes, he has kept the team going. He is still campaigning.

The dirty little secret the Low Information Voters never get is, obama has protected his friends - hedgefunders, wallstreeters, etc. ie: those who carried his water, bundled for him - his biggest donors.

These, the asset wealthy, got away scot free.-5% capitol gains is all.

The income wealthy did not. THEY GOT AXED BIG TIME. They are the working wealthy, often business owners who will have to lay off, cut hours, etc.

And again, 80% will pay higher taxes hitting the middle class. But the LIB's only understand the mean bad guys are paying more and the phony theatrics continue. Incidentally, the amount we are speaking of is insignificant in a $16 Trillion debt society -
