Kingman letters: New laws won't bother criminals

Not to overlook the horror of the God-awful shooting at Sandy Hook School, here are some overlooked facts by always-eager politicians to grandstand and look important.

First, the mother of this young killer failed as a parent. She overlooked his obvious mental condition too long. Then, and worse, she broke the federal gun law against straw buyers. This kid could not buy weapons. She bought them for him.

She abdicated her duty as a parent and broke federal law. It cost her her life and far too many others, and who pays? With more fool laws (there are hundreds now), and more burdens on people who do not violate laws or commit vile acts. All this will mean nothing to criminals and mental defectives.

Not to get off the subject or anything...I have a question for all of the people out there who think banning guns will decrease crime, and make everything all rainbows & puppy dogs.

How in the heck do you propose to get the millions of out-and-out criminals to turn in their guns? (I want to hear this) It will be difficult to get all of the millions of legal gun owners to hand them over...let alone professional criminals.

“Way to go JOE. another law breaker is the President.”

So glad to see that you recognize Shuruff Joe as a law breaker, but I must now ask that you specify exactly which laws the President has broken. Be accurate, thank you.

NOTE: Nothing in this petition entails taking anyone's guns away from them.

I posted the following Petition on We The People in favor of gun regulation.

I would ask that all those who favor such a petition, please go to https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petition/regulate-sale-and-possession-firearms-follows/8Lppqnzc and sign this petition.

Please post this on Facebook, Twitter and other social sites, email it to your friends and acquaintances, and anyone else you think may be interested. Thank you.

In order to promote a safe environment for ourselves and our children, the undersigned hereby petition the government of the United States of America to:

1. Reinstate the Federal assault weapons ban

2. Establish a comprehensive buy-back program for all firearms

3. Strictly regulate ammunition sales so they may be limited and traceable in amount and type

4. Require comprehensive background checks for all gun purchases and transfers

5. Require an ATF-approved safety certification for all gun owners and

6. Establish a national database of all gun ownership.

KDM on line reader only...bit puzzled by your comment, all posts are rants, raves since one can call them opinions, views, ideologies etc., who cares what name you label it! As to solutions when you figure out how to resurrect the dead get back with me! This whole story is moot, mothers deceased, her son is deceased, the 20 kids are deceased, the adult teachers are deceased, laying blame on anyone deceased is useless energy, I at no time denigrated the deceased mother by commenting on her owning guns, they were legally bought, legally owned, no law eixsts to cover this situation, the son was never deemed or adjucated by any court as insane hence the issue of his sanity is moot since how does one psycho analyze a deceased person!

Re: anonymous anonymous

So you disagree that the accusation you hurled at the deceased mother is garbage.

Okay then, what is the problem or what is your solution other than just inexplicably ranting and raving?

Web admin, you state that "Excessively verbose or rambling comments may not be posted". Oh yeah I forgot, that only applies to me.

Laws have never, and never will stop criminals. However, they do stifle the average law-abiding citizen.

So let's disarm good, law-abiding citizens from protecting themselves, their families and their neighbors and let the only people who ARE armed be the criminal, the police and the military.

Sounds like Nazi Germany and Stalin's USSR to me.

“David Kupelian, a writer whose books I have and who I greatly admire…”

Kupelian is another Right Wing Loon writer in the same vein as the charlatan David Barton spewing nonsense designed to sway the intellectually challenged.

Perhaps another Loon writer may have the correct information. James Tracy believes the events that unfolded at Sandy Hook did not happen as reported. Tracy writes, “While it sounds like an outrageous claim, one is left to inquire whether the Sandy Hook shooting ever took place, at least in the way law enforcement authorities and the nation’s news media have described.” He suggests there were multiple shooters and the number of dead is incorrect. The professor, who is known for his conspiracy theories on 9/11 and the Oklahoma bombing, believes trained “crisis actors” may have been employed by the Obama administration to shape public opinion on gun control.

The 47-year-old, who holds a Ph.D. from the University of Iowa in mass communication, wrote, “As documents relating to the Sandy Hook shooting continue to be assessed and interpreted by independent researchers there is a growing awareness that the media coverage of the massacre of 26 children and adults was intended primarily for public consumption to further larger political ends.”

:Patrick Purdy went on a schoolyard shooting rampage in Stockton, Calif., in 1989, which became the catalyst for the original legislative frenzy to ban “semiautomatic assault weapons” in California and the nation. The 25-year-old Purdy, who murdered five children and wounded 30, had been on Amitriptyline, an antidepressant, as well as the antipsychotic drug Thorazine.

• Kip Kinkel, 15, murdered his parents in 1998, went to Thurston HS in Springfield, OE the next day, opened fire on classmates, killing two, wounding 22. He had been prescribed both Prozac and Ritalin.

• In 1988, 31-year-old Laurie Dann went on a shooting rampage in a second-grade classroom in Winnetka, Ill., killing one child and wounding six. She had been taking the antidepressant Anafranil as well as Lithium, long used to treat mania.

• In Paducah, Ky., in late 1997, 14-year-old Michael Carneal, son of a prominent attorney, went to Heath HS, started shooting students in a prayer meeting in the lobby - killed three, left one paralyzed. Carneal was on Ritalin. .

• In 2005, 16-year-old Native American Jeff Weise, living on Minnesota’s Red Lake Indian Reservation, shot and killed nine people and wounded five others before killing himself. Weise had been taking Prozac.

• 47 yr old Joseph Wesbecker, a month after starting Prozac in 1969, shot 20 workers at Standard Gravure Corp in Louisville, killed 9, . Prozac-maker Eli Lilly later settled a lawsuit brought by supervisors out of court.

• Kurt Danysh, 18, shot his own father to death in 1996, two weeks after starting on Prozac. His own description of his mental emotiional state was chilling: I ddn't realize I did it until after it was done he said. This might sound wierd but it felt like I had no control of what I was doing, like I was left there just holding a gun.

David Kupelian, a writer whose books I have and who I greatly admire reports the following:

By David Kupelian

Where is the reporting about the psychiatric medications the Sandy Hook Shooter – who had been under treatment for mental-health problems – may have been taking? After all, Mark and Louise Tambascio, family friends of the shooter and his mother, were interviewed on CBS’ “60 Minutes,” during which Louise Tambascio told correspondent Scott Pelley: “I know he was on medication and everything, but she homeschooled him at home cause he couldn’t deal with the school classes sometimes, so she just homeschooled Adam at home. And that was her life.” And here, Tambascio tells ABC News, “I knew he was on medication, but that’s all I know.”

As I documented in “How Evil Works,” it is simply indisputable that most perpetrators of school shootings and similar mass murders in our modern era were either on – or just recently coming off of – psychiatric medications:

The list is long of those mass shootings where the shooter was on psychiatric medication. Here is but one. More to follow:

• Columbine mass-killer Eric Harris was taking Luvox – like Prozac, Paxil, Zoloft, Effexor and many others, a modern and widely prescribed type of antidepressant drug called selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs. Harris and fellow student Dylan Klebold went on a hellish school shooting rampage in 1999 during which they killed 12 students and a teacher and wounded 24 others before turning their guns on themselves.Luvox manufacturer Solvay Pharmaceuticals concedes that during short-term controlled clinical trials, 4 percent of children and youth taking Luvox – that’s 1 in 25 – developed mania, a dangerous and violence-prone mental derangement characterized by extreme excitement and delusion.

I agree, but as for me, I'm waiting for the day they ban all firearms completely, heck, with my military training and knowledge of criminals while working in law enforcement, I know how to get weapons from across the borders of Canada and Mexico. I could make a fortune robbing people and with little fear since they would have no guns to stop me from doing what i want.

Amen Robert:

However, I don't believe the Mother bought him the guns - she bought them for herself.

And without really researching it, I have heard he was on the famous drugs others that have shot up schools were on. If that is so, that absolutely needs to be closely looked at.

In any event, she knew he had problems - would have been wise to not have had guns around but she obviously did not think he his problems went the way they did.

I never heard about a burial for her.

Good letter. It is for these reasons we must look at the weapons themselves. All firearms should have fingerprint sensors that restrict dischanging to the owner - solves straw buyer or theft.

All guns are restricted to firing 3 rounds without reloading - gives all those brave defenders we hear so much about time to tackle an assassin.

And dealing with mental issue is the most difficult although we can make progress by requiring extensive mental competency tests and monitoring through medical processes.

Somewhat independent of the gun issue is our country must look at early detection and intervention of the mentally ill. We must look at increase funding in this area.

Bad parenting - perhaps more emphasis on parenting skills introduced in the early grades and carried through to high school might help.

First off I think your blaim is placed in the wrong place in being at the mother however maybe she could have kept those guns locked up. The bottom line is Mental Health problems seems to be the underlining issue on all mass shooting, over croweding in prison, homelessness drug abuse, the list goes on and on maybe instead of gun control laws lets make it a law they stop cutting money to mental health help and then as the Rep. say use the trickle down affect and watch things get better. Just saying.

At first glance your letter made sense, criminals disobey laws hence laws are only worth while for the law abiding, but the accusation you hurled at the deceased mother is garbage, she was a well known gun addict, she was owner and user of the guns, no evidence exists she bought them for her son and even if she did he was not deemed insane by any court hence a purchase by his mother for him would have been legal since no law prohibited him from possessing or owning one, you might do some research, mentally ill folks can own guns since mental illness runs the range of simple depression to a wide range of things considered mental illness but not to a level of incompentence and do not even come close to being deemed incompetent by any court! The valid point you made is criminals are called this name due to they disobey the laws hence laws have no meaning or effect to them!

If you have an opinion, fine....but don't put lies in to justify your stance....where on earth in anything you have read about this shooting....does it say "she bought guns for her son"? IT DOESN"T..., what it says time and again is that he "stole" them from her!
