Kingman Letters: It's time to demand accountability

Our government doesn't have an income problem. It has a spending problem. As the saying goes, you know what rolls downhill. The fiscal cliff should be called the "fecal" cliff. It's not just Democrats. It's Republicans, too.

Although greatly accelerated and accepted under Obama, it was Bush who started the trend. We keep electing people who have no problem balancing their personal checkbooks but refuse to balance ours. What's it going to take before "We the People" demand some accountability from D.C., total collapse?

I'm afraid if $17,000,000,000,000 of debt isn't the proverbial straw, then no amount will ever be.

@ Anson's Nephew

I agree, since they didn't do anything for four years maybe they should give some money back.

“Where else would the GOP like to make budget cuts?”

It is odd that the Republicans will never actually say exactly what cuts they want to institute. However, their various mouth-pieces have been going after Social Security, Medicare and virtually any other program that benefits the middle class or poor for years.

I have just one question. Where else would the GOP like to make budget cuts? The military is already suffering. When is enough going to be enough? Will it take an invasion by Cuba to beef up our defenses?

Most of the debt we have came from digging out of the Bush years after He trashed the economy. Two of the longest stupidest wars in history all for nothing except to make his defense corporation friends even richer than they were before. And by letting the banks become too big to fail and the financial industry to give loans to anyone who could breathe he let the biggest fraud in American history take place which destroyed the wealth of most of the middle class. You can blame Obama all you want but all of that took place before Obama. I would like to know what you think Magoo and Palin would have done differently. Obama has basically ruled like a Republican and caved time and time again. Republicans that can chew gum and still have an inteligent thought at the same time have left the party. All you have left are right wing religious zombies who think Jesus wants them to have lots of guns and no govt. Fortunately the rest of the country isn't as backward.

I take exception to comparing Obama to a drunken sailor. I always quit when I ran out of money.

“yeah anson, that seven trillion obama added on to our debt doesnt matter at all does it. my god i thought common sense was the problem, but all along it was basic math skills”

Talk about poor math skills! Let’s consider that The Criminal left us close to eleven trillion in debt. When Obama took office one of his first moves was to shift the actual costs of the wars The Criminal had gotten us involved in into the budget – adding over two trillion to the debt (and of course one rages costing us even more money). Then there were the unfunded mandates The Criminal insisted upon that Obama also added to the budget. Obama did these things to show that The Criminal had been lying to us about the costs of his insanity.

And of course there were the loans to the auto and banking industries that have been earning us money as they are being paid back. And there are the continuing costs of operating the government – simply because a bunch of Right Wing Loons screams “Stop the spending!” it is never going to happen.

So yes, monies have been added during the Obama years and will continue to be added, however I notice you did not address the fact of my post that Obama has REDUCED the deficit by close to 4% since taking office.

“...and obozo keeps spending like a drunken sailor.....he has absolutely no intention of stopping....”

You are aware that the deficit has dropped nearly 4% since “Obama” took office, right?

He won and is digging us out of the nightmare left behind by The Criminal so just deal with it.

The fox hound--"their power comes from the corp that fund them" or the Unions that fund them.

I asked a Genie to grant me eternal life. The Genie said it was not possible to do that. I then changed my one wish and asked to live until the government pulled it's collective head out of the sand. The Genie looked at me and said " what a crafty person you are. Enjoy eternal life."

"... sorry I think we do not know what the majority thinks on any given subject until they poll every American!"

Well stated. It's always funny to watch people saying "polls are slanted and prove nothing" suddenly change to "The xxx poll says..." when it supports their position.

You must have a mouse in your pocket? I to often see folks saying we the people as if they represent the majority view they post on line, seems to me only way to know how the majority view anything is to poll everyone of the 300 million plus Americans who live in America have yet to see this poll! At best one can see who is most angry, most vocal, most prolific in writing letters to editors, trolling the net dispensing their views as majority view, sorry I think we do not know what the majority thinks on any given subject until they poll every American!

I couldn't agree more the problem isn't just one party. Both parties are totally in the pocket of the rich. Just this last election we have seen how big money can influence an election. Both sides spent close to one billion dollars on this last election, money they got from the super rich. Of the 535 seats for the House only 30 of them had elections that could have gone either way. That means 70 percent of them had no chance to lose their seat so why should they worry about us. Their power comes from the corp that fund them. We need to have independent non partisen boards redraw the districts so they have both Republicans and Democrats in the same district. Then our elected officals might just listen to what their voters concerns are. Until we get serious about Gerrymandering nothing is going to change.
