Letter: A plan for the fairgrounds

The April 28 Miner headlines quote Mohave County Supervisor Gary Watson as follows: "Watson to fair board: Just give us a plan."

Here's a suggestion if the fairgrounds board of directors needs help in coming up with a plan.

1. Buy lottery ticket.

2. Wait for win.

3. If win, spend money.

4. If no win, return to step one next week.

5. For long term annual plan, repeat 52 times.

This plan allows for maximum flexibility with minimum burdensome accounting. Furthermore, this plan will only cost taxpayers a maximum of $52 a year! (Or $104 if the board goes all out.)

Perhaps this plan will be similar in effectiveness to the current non-plan.

Glad to be of help.

Now how has that plan worked out for yourself, Norman?

Perhaps with a little more thought you could have suggested that the board:
* solicit donations and in-kind services to improve the fair appearance - replace the chain link fence with a more a curb appearance fencing, improve landscaping, and generally spiff up what visitors see.
* develop a events calendar that utilizes the grounds and brings in revenue.
* approach various organizations and business about renting the facilities.
* institute a volunteer program to perform tasks as varied as painting the bleachers, answering the phones, etc.
