Letter: The president and seniors

Re: May 12, 2013, "Sequester slams door" article.

The author seems to be using terms "Medicare" and "Medicaid" interchangeably - very confusing.

The sequester cut $9.9 billion from Medicare. Obamacare cut Medicare by $700 billion. The president owns both these cuts. He has no problem with throwing seniors under the bus.

@linda - I'm a Gibson Guitars artist endorser, and I support Gibson 100% as they are great to me and the guys in my band. When this all first happened they asked me and the other guitarist to make a support video for them, and we did, along with dozens of other Gibson artists.

But I also know that the law that they were busted for is, in fact, real, even if I disagree on the spirit of said law. It really isn't important as to why they were busted. A judge doesn't care why you got caught speeding, only that you were caught speeding.

The point of the law is to stop the importation of illegal species of wood from other countries. The law was a little vague about processed or non-processed wood (example: whole pieces of a tree vs. processed planks of wood). They were getting shipments of the wood already processed for use on the fretboard of the guitars, but since it was already processed, they felt that was a loophole that would be ok to use.

Unfortunately the govt felt otherwise, but it's all been settled and dealt with. Gibson started using a different wood and now they treat it in an oven to make it as hard as the illegal wood and hopefully get a similar tone out of the guitars.

Regardless, I'll continue to support Gibson, but I'm level-headed enough to know that sometimes when you try to skirt the law with loopholes you get caught. They got caught.

Looks like the skin tone issue community in Mohave county is still cheering each other on with their vile hatred, venomous rhetoric of the non white fellow in the white house, with the full co-operation of the Daily Miner editorial staff cheering them on in the background! It is sad but the good thing is Arizona is a tri-divided electorate and thank god the far right wing only has about 1/3rd of that electorate who keep this sad sack bunch happy leaving us democrats and independents to vote as we wish to! As with all non-solid GOP states Arizona does from time to time elect Democrats to top positions once folks get tired of all the right wing rhetoric and failed promises!

Ms Athens

“You missed Maddow and Lowry on Meet the Press last fall apparently Bob Moore?”

No, actually I did not and I went back and looked at the sequence you referenced (incorrectly, as always) and found Dr. Maddow had carefully explained to Mr Lowry EXACTLY how the $700 billion in cost-savings over a ten year period would be implemented, i.e. a crack-down on the low-life sleaze doctors, hospitals and insurance companies that have been ripping off Medicare for years and years and how that money would be placed back into Medicare to fund additional care for seniors.

And you do know that your hero Lil Ayn Ryan put forth exactly the same dollar amount of cuts to Medicare, only his program took the money from seniors and handed it to insurance companies.

"When this admin raided the Gibson guitar company in 2009, it was said Gibson was using wood that was banned for use. Turns out Gibson was a big Republican donor and their complaint had nothing to do with wood and everything to do with who Gibson donated to."

Incorrect...totally.

"When car dealerships were shut down under Obama's great stimulus, most were Republican donating dealerships."

Incorrect with no proof at all. Please list the dealerships and the political affiliation of the owners and their donations.

“500 Conservative groups have had their tax-exempt status's delayed for years by the Obama admin.”

Not true.

”When this admin raided the Gibson guitar company in 2009, it was said Gibson was using wood that was banned for use. Turns out Gibson was a big Republican donor and their complaint had nothing to do with wood and everything to do with who Gibson donated to.”

Gibson was raided and their production line shut down for one day because they had illegally purchased banned wood. That was against the law and had nothing to do with politics. In fact the investigation into Gibson began during the Reign of Error of The Criminal.

“Whistleblowers are being intimidated nationwide from coming forth with their stories.”

Not True.

“HHS Secretary Sebelius is shaking down the health companies she regulates.”

Not true.

Not true.

“Romneys top donors were audited repeatedly, many were called criminals.”

Not true.

Not true.

Not true.

“This IRS thing is a scare tactic to keep Republicans from donating. Is this still America I have to ask?”

Also, not true.

Why do you post such trash?

>>>On Meet the Press, National Review’s Rich Lowry challenges MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow to defend the $700 Billion Obama has cut from Medicare. She cannot defend it and looks like a complete disingenuous idiot in the process.<<<

So do others that try to say it doesn't exist. IT DOES!!

Joan:

I totally agree with you.

But this POTUS has no problem throwing anyone under the bus but especially if they are Republican donors.

500 Conservative groups have had their tax-exempt status's delayed for years by the Obama admin.

When this admin raided the Gibson guitar company in 2009, it was said Gibson was using wood that was banned for use. Turns out Gibson was a big Republican donor and their complaint had nothing to do with wood and everything to do with who Gibson donated to.

Whistleblowers are being intimidated nationwide from coming forth with their stories.

HHS Secretary Sebelius is shaking down the health companies she regulates.

When car dealerships were shut down under Obama's great stimulus, most were Republican donating dealerships.

Romneys top donors were audited repeatedly, many were called criminals. Totally unfounded. Romney was slandered repeatedly by the obama administration. Mr. Vandersloot was put through hell for donating to Romney and spent $100,000 of his own money in lawyers fees fighting back.

Obama is a slime bag of the first order as is Eric Holder and Kathleen Sebelius. I pray they end up behind bars where they belong before we are a complete banana republic.

This IRS thing is a scare tactic to keep Republicans from donating. Is this still America I have to ask?

Joan
Wouldn't it be great if congress could force Obama into a lie detector test? I know they are not admissible in court but they are a proven science.
After failing miserably, his approval rating would drop considerably but there would still be the slobbering liberals who do not care if this thug from Chicago is lying or not....only in America.

What is wrong with budget cuts? I thought you righties were all for "paying you own way". People who can`t afford health insurance (seniors included), will be covered under Obamacare. Those who can afford their own, can continue to do so. Imagine if Romney was elected. You`d been "thrown under the bus" for sure. Left on your own with your worthless voucher. You should be thanking your lucky stars president Obama was reelected!

“’ Obamacare cut Medicare by $700 billion.”

No matter how many times the righties post this it will always be incorrect. The $700 million dollars in “cuts” is spread over a ten year period and does not actually “cut” any benefits from seniors. The purpose of the changes implemented are to stop the waste and fraud talking place by doctors, hospitals and insurance companies with the savings being directed back into providing services for Medicare recipients.

BTW – Lil Ayn Ryan proposed EXACTLY the same dollar amount in cuts, however, his were directed at taking away from senior care and putting more money into the pockets of doctors, hospitals and insurance companies.

I know the truth is always painful, but one thing about, it never changes.
