Kingman Letters: Hatred for tribe disheartening

I read the Daily Miner regularly and pay particular interest to the comments on stories made by members of the community. It disappoints me to see the racial hatred and bias that is so blatantly used when talking about the Hualapai Tribe.

I am not a tribal member, just an educated working class Anglo, and I find the racist comments made by many readers offensive and as representing our county in a very poor way. Shame on us for harboring racial hatred and shame on us for excusing it.

“Is it racial hatred to point out that the tribe is charging people $82 to walk on their precious bridge?”

No, it is not.

You are wrong. I had nothing against his color. His arrogance? Yes. He didn't have any good answers to any REAL problem on his campaign. THAT was a problem. He talked a good game, like a used car salesmen, but he wouldn't give specifics, and to this day, he hasn't done that. The tribe isn't being racially profiled, they are being asked be accountable and stand behind the agreement. They don't have a good track record. Period.

Thank you Edward , I am glad you took the time to voice your feelings .. yes it is true There are a few bad apples in the bunch.. but that does not make up for the whole race, and that is with all races. Here's a good read about Racism ant the Native American . http://clevelandsearch.com/Native-Americans.html
I live Here in Kingman and I come from the Mojave tribe , My father is Caucasian and my Mother Mojave Native from Parker , AZ So I have seen both sides of the spectrum. May the Good Lord intervene in these situations that they are going through , both partys involved , and let the fight end !!!!

I disagree Mr Outrider. I don't see racial hatred. I see disgust at shady business practices. Similar to the Enron issue, Bernie Madoff, and the perception of the oil industry. Or (from the more informed) the disgust with the agribusinesses (and our Government) who take millions in Government subsidies while making billions in profits on their products.

Article comment by: Thank You Hualapai Tribal Members for Being Our Good Neighbors

I'm surprised by this letter. First I like the tribe. I like the idea that they decided to pursue other avenues toward economic development other than gambling. I like the calmness of these people although I must admit being an Anglo there are times when I wish they would move a bit faster - but that speaks more of my culture (rush, rush, never stop to smell the roses). What I want to get across is I, like the vast, vast majority of area residents don't hate the members. The vast majority follow the live-and-let--live philosophy. I don't read the newspaper every day cover to cover and never listen to this town's talk radio (all hate, all day) so perhaps I'm missing all this hate of the tribal members. In any case let's try to remember there will always be one or two bad eggs in every batch. It's important that we do not listen to those voicing hate. It's important that the newspaper be responsible and a good citizen and not allow hate and violence to be a dominating voice for Kingman.

Sadly, the local vitriol for those who are different isn't specified...the same trolls who post such racist rants on this website against the Hualapai also post rants against hispanics and others they fear. I hope that most people realize those trolls in no way represent the true feelings of the majority of residents.

Gee Ed is this the first time you noticed the racism in the Minor. You must have just moved here. This is a something that happens all the time. They call it patriotism instead of what it really is. They still can't believe the majority voted for a black man. But it will change in the near future as these old racist die off. The young people don't feel the same way.
