Letter: Government must keep spending

Is Rep. Paul Gosar in the "beltway bubble"? Or is he so ideologically driven that his mind will not process information that does not agree with his position? Every response I receive from him regarding spending/cuts is, we can all agree that we must cut spending. No! "We" can't!

Those of us who pay attention to what's going on in Europe, where they practiced that philosophy, believe that cutting spending during a recession/depression is the wrong thing to do. The Austerity Budget countries that adopted the draconian cuts to pensions and social programs saw unemployment soar, which caused tax revenues to plummet. They also saw riots in the streets because the working class refused to accept being punished for the greed/crimes of the bankers and investment houses. (Who, by the way, are doing just fine now.)

Those who make their money on interest, investments and profits are getting richer by the day, while the poor and working class can't find decent employment and are threatened by the "deficit hawks" agenda to gut the safety-net programs. Here's an idea: Don't shut off the water while the house is on fire.

It appears that capitalism isn't working for the workers.

Let's see, it's OK to bail out wall street and the big banks because, even though they brought down the world economy, they were "too big to fail, or prosecute" Now they are making record profits/salaries and are doing very well. They even have a group called "Fix the debt" and they are advocating reform. Their "reform" is to cut medicare, SS, food stamps, womens healthcare and anything else that helps regular folks. No tax reform, no accepting responsibility or even graitude for the taxpayer bailout that added to our debt and their profits. But, we can't expect that from them, after all, it's capitalism, all things profit and the corporations are the saviors. Folks, what is wrong with this picture?
The New world order is corporate control of the world .... and they are doing it! We need to wake up. Billion dollar corporations that pay little or no taxes? The problem is "something for nothing people"% 47 or everything for political payoff to corporate donors. We are on really scary ground here folks.

All those screaming about our government spending on infrastructure projects in America just don't understand that it is called investment in a brighter America. Should be interesting when the Republicans regain the White House - all those we-can't-spend Republicans will be screaming spend, spend, spend. Just wait and see.

“Guess why the USA is so broke now?”

Because the only convicted criminal appointed to the White House in our nations history lied us into a war against a nation that posed no threat to us and the result will be trillions of dollars wasted (as we honor our obligations to the wounded warriors), not to mention the thousands of our troops who died because of his lies. And then there is near total collapse of our nations economy because of The Criminal allowing corporations free run and giving them billions of dollars in tax breaks as they refused (and continue to do so) to actually “create” jobs.

So as usual the “Dems” did it whine is just… well, you know.

@ Marcus- is that how you run your personal finances.....keep spending no matter what? If so please tell us how that works out.

Sounds like you took the Keynesian theory of macroeconomics seriously. That would be OK if you only effected yourself. Liberal politicians love this concept. Guess why the USA is so broke now?

Yes ....America needs to spend like a drunk sailor. That Money need to be spent on this Nation. We have roads and bridges falling apart on nearly every highway. Thats just the beginning. Everything built 50-60years ago is aging and falling apart. Public sidewalks, sewers, just look around nearly everything needs Restored or replaced.

The country boomed 60 years ago when we built ourselves into the most modern nation on earth. All I see now is nothing being built. Just a lost public looking for something to do again.

What kills me is. We send millions, billions, trillons of dollars all over the world. Most of it goes to places that flat out hate us. They only smile when the money changes hands. Then its used to arm troops to kill us or anybody close.

I dont care what political views you have. I think the goal for all Americans should be to Fix the Country. Starting by roping in our politicians. NO more foriegn aid. NO more fixing problems for everyone on earth. Start programs to rebuild this country. PUT people to work. Just think if we did this for five years.

Take all those trillions and rebuild America. Put people to work like we did the first time. Government job programs Fix everything needed to put us in play for the next 100 years.

America is a garden that hasnt been watered in decades. Americas biggest problem...We're bored. Put us to work.

Pete
The problem we have here in Kingman and Arizona is that we have no economist and one heck of a lot of Constitutional Scholars. Business do not want to expand and hire workers. Business can not have it both ways. No spending mean no expansion. No Republican Politician here in Kingman and Arizona understand, to spend people need money to do that. I guess all we can expect is the steady stream of Constitutional interpretations. No Help No Need.

Excellent presentation for the position of anti-austerity. It's amazing that our leaders do not understand Economics 101. Our economy is balanced between business spending, government spending, and consumer spending. Presently there is little spending going on by businesses or consumer. Therefore it is imperative that government spending balances that out. By cutting back government spending we are just prolonging the recovery.

Mr Hoover, you state "Those who make their money on interest are getting richer by the day" tells me you don't even have a savings account!
Capitalism works for everybody, but you have to be willing to work. Just that simple.
