7/11/2013 6:00:00 AM Letter: Railroad Club deserves a whistle
Kudos to the Whistle Stop Railroad Club of Kingman. It's evident that many hours and commitment of club members contributed to a successful grand opening last month at the Old Kingman Train Depot.
As a kid growing up in the '50s and standing at the Second Street crossing, you could look down the track and see a headlight coming with the sound of steam and the rumble of an engine bellowing smoke.
Today, modern trains pass through Kingman at the Second Street crossing and you can still see the headlight coming and hear the sound of cars dancing back and forth. The only thing missing is the little red caboose that trailed faithfully after every string of freight cars, lost in time, and gone forever but not forgotten.
Walking through the depot/museum, the important thing is the train, its beauty and history.
The museum is a wondrous display of running electric trains along with artifacts on display for the public's enjoyment.
