Letter: Shutdown slip-ups possible

Did you know that there is a law that prohibits the government from incurring any monetary obligation for which the Congress has not appropriated funds?

Administration officials live in fear of the 19th century Anti-Deficiency Act passed by Congress in 1870. Thus lawbreakers could get officials penalized, fired or even imprisoned if they make the wrong choice while the government is shut down.

It was Will Rogers who said, "With Congress, every time they make a joke it's a law. And every time they make a law it's a joke."

Gene Krivenko

This president is so horrible that I believe he is the man behind the IRS scandal after all the government and some not government properties that this man has shut down.
Park police have said it has come down from the top to make it as hard on the folks as possible.....even going to the task of covering some of the statues so people can't see them
and it goes on and on.
Democrats should be proud of their messiah.

A little truth: 197 wc

1. One Republican voted for obamacare. Joseph Cao of Louisiana.

2. Dozens of Democrats voted against obamacare, at least 30, probably more.,

3. Republicans were excluded in discussion of obamacare - even to the point of locking them out, changing the locks. It was rammed thru at Christmas in the dark of night as are most evil things done.

4. Every day, people are STUNNED at their new obamacare premiums. Most thought, if they already had their own medical insurance , they would be left alone. OH NO! You have to have the medical policy OBAMA SAYS you have to have. You will have to pay for others drug treatment even if you never did drugs, no matter your deductible before, they will give you a new deductible, up to $6000 a year per person and much, much more. Some assumed it was free. They took FREE MEDICAL OFF the WH website - not only not free to the young, the prices are EXORBITANT.

People in the hinterland are simply STUNNED - especially Democrats. It is a trainwreck - Treasury Secy wouldn't even SAY how many signed up. I heard ONE the first day. Hahaha!

The Republican version of negociate goes something like this:

Repubs: I want to burn down the house
Presidednt: No

Repubs: How about just the 2nd floor
President: No

Repubs: How about the garage
President: No

Repubs: how about we talk about it
President: No

Repubs: The president refuses to negotiate with us.

So, I think you have this totally backwards. The Anti-Deficiency Act in a shutdown prohibits anyone not explicitly allowed to do work from doing work.

If a Federal employee accidentally checks their email on their smartphone - even if the app accidentally launches - their agency IT department will log it and they will face possible disciplinary action, up to termination.

Agency heads are allowed to determine who comes in to work, and they make the call. But someone can't catch up on work during a shut down or do anything that would technically "make the government owe them money for working" because without a passed budget, no one has been authorized to keep their job.

Whoever told you this apparently doesn't even know Fed employees to ask to get a real answer.

..."Republicans were completely shut out of the obamacare bill ..."

Incorrect as usual. The Republiscums refused to participate in any discussion on the ACA after they got the individual mandate they insisted upon.

And no matter how much nattering you do the ACA was passed by both houses of Congress, signed into law by the president and confirmed by the Supreme Court.

And I am still stunned at how people who use Medicare to the tune of thousands of dollars a year are against every American having access to health care. Talk about hypocrites!

Today I watched Treasury Secretary Jack Lew repeatedly lie on all Sunday talk shows - he could only repeat his talking points, refused to answer if Obama will ever negotiate over a shut down- refused to answer if anyone signed up for Obamacare at all.

Republicans are half the country Mr. President. And yet, this, the most divisive president in our history will not only not listen or negotiate, he spends his time running out to low information audiences, knowing he is being filmed, and ridicules and puts down Republicans as the low infos cheer.

THIS is leadership?

Republicans were completely shut out of the obamacare bill which was done in secret by a small group, then made available for a few short hours, rammed down our throats without a single Republican vote.

He is well on his way to "reforming" (his word) us into a mindless, non-thinking and powerless underclass.

I say we are still a Repubic...if we can keep it. And we need to make every effort to keep it. Melt down the White House lines and demand Obama come to the negotiating table. He himself fought against just such a scenario a few short years back. 200wc
