Letter: Show some leadership, Mr. Speaker

If it weren't so scary, I'd be laughing my head off. For the last eight months, I have refrained from watching any political news or responding to any political letters in this paper. I started watching the news again when I heard there might be a government shutdown and wanted to know why. And guess what? Same old, same old. It's like I never missed a single day of political news. The Republicans are still playing their despicable hostage-taking games at the expense of the American people.

So, what it boils down to is that the Republicans are hell-bent on denying 45 million Americans health insurance by passing a bill to not fund the ACA (Obamacare) and, because the president won't back down on this law of the land, Republicans voted to shut down the government. Again, they didn't get their way, so again, they take it out on the American people and on our economy.

John Boehner is nothing but a wimp and a coward being dragged by the nose by the tea party. Afraid of losing his job as Speaker of the House, he allows the tea party to rule his House. Just two years ago, Boehner said that "shutting down the government is irresponsible." Really? Then why allow the tea party to brainwash you, Mr. Speaker? Why don't you lead your party? That's supposed to be your job.

Face it, it's not that Republicans are against the ACA or anything else this president has done. They simply do not want Obama to have any well-regarded legacy.

"Are people who really want health insurance unable to pick up a phone (remember those?) and sign up for the ACA."

And one of KDM's leading leftist obamarx sock puppets is wrong again.

From the Washington Post Sarah Kliff 10/23/13

"That works fine -- unless you're interested in purchasing a health insurance policy. In conversations this afternoon with the call center, I was repeatedly told that I could not enroll in coverage over the phone.

"The only thing we can do is submit an application for you," one call-center representative told me. "We can't purchase anything for you."

"No, you cannot do that," another one said, when I told her I had completed my application and would like to enroll in a specific plan.

Maybe people should just stick to the obamacare website that seBeliuS told us yesterday "has never crashed"

You should have stuck with your desperate "Please give it a chance" plea.

Better luck next time

LOL

As the president said, "The ACA is more than just a website." Remember the good old days when not everything was computerized? We depend too much on the computer. If it goes down, life as we now know it seems to stop dead in its tracks. Are people who really want health insurance unable to pick up a phone (remember those?) and sign up for the ACA. Or too busy to go and apply in person? Don't get me wrong - I think computers are great. But, like any device, they do break down, and devious people seem to find joy in passing on viruses that can crash computers across the country. There should always be a backup plan to keep businesses running smoothly in case their computers crash. When I worked at AT&T as a computer repair dispatcher, we had printouts for every order entered into the computer. If the computer crashed, we could then pull those printouts and continue doing business as usual. Until computers are 100% failproof, people should expect them to fail at one time or another and be prepared to continue on without it. The problem is, most younger people don't know how to exist without computers.

"Hey, why don’t you tell the truth?"

Maybe back on Oct 4 I should have said "millions of Alaskans are signing up". You asking anyone to tell the truth is a real laugh riot.

"Many more than three have signed up in Alaska."

And, as usual, no "source of fact" from you to back it up. You know, that thing you are always screechingly demanding from others.

By the way, since you do seem to be reading everything I submit, will you be providing any proof of your claim from Oct 4 that "millions of Americans" were signing up at that point? Clearly you have read my request that you provide the proof.

The question is not going away, and your refusal to answer it does call your credibility into question.

Save yourself more daily embarrassment and just admit you made it up, and it was just "hyperbolic nonsense".

Deja Vu FDR created the social security safety net and the same whining by the elite right wing and their minions in the trenches cried it would ruin America, turn us all communist! It did not happen, same thing was whined, cried during LBJ's tenure in office when he enacted his programs, today we are still not communists even though the right wing likes to call us democrats communists one day then socialists the next and sometimes at same time when both these ideologies are different hence they have different names, seems the right wing is only good for one thing whining, crying and making prophecies which never come true!

Hey, why don’t you tell the truth? Many more than three have signed up in Alaska. Try to keep up.

"Glad to see that you agree with me. People are signing on and singing up. Thanks for doing your own research and proving what I posted. Feel good, doesn’t it?"

You conveniently left out the part that those are all people who signed up for Medicaid, not people who signed up and will pay less for their insurance premiums because that ain't happening.

"People are signing on and singing up."

Rather small totals, don't you think? I mean, compared to the claim that "millions of Americans are signing up" that you made on Oct 4. When people had been able to do so only from Oct 1.

"Thanks for doing your own research and proving what I posted."

Does that mean that you will be posting the "source of fact" for your claim that "millions" had signed up by Oct 4.

"People are signing on and singing up."

Wow. 35k and 37k in rollments in almost a month. Still a tad short of the "millions of Americans are signing up" claim you made on Oct 4, isn't it? Hey, you can now add the whopping number of 3 people in Alaska to your millions.

By the way, any chance you will produce evidence as to the validity of that incredible Oct 4 claim of yours? Or will you continue just hiding, pretending you did not see the question yet again. It has been quite awhile now.

The truth shall set you free. Just admit you made it all up.

"Officials for Oregon's health insurance exchange on Thursday reported some progress, but acknowledged a major fix to the problem-plagued site may not happen this month as hoped. The website still has not enrolled anyone."

Source: oregonlive (dot) com 10/24/13 It's a website for the paper The Oregonian

Now be sure to show up tomorrow, or the next day, and screech "Why do righties insist upon posting blatant lies here – day in and day out?". And when you post your rebuttel using information from after the 24th, be sure to use some words in all caps. It will be funnier that way.

Speaking of things that are funny, have you found proof yet that "millions" were "signing up" before Oct 4th, when you made that claim?

LOL

"Why do righties insist upon posting blatant lies here – day in and day out?"

Your joke above was regarding this article blurb you posted "“Nearly 174,000 New Yorkers have applied for health insurance through the state’s new exchange program, and 37,030 have fully enrolled, the state Health Department said Wednesday.”"

However, from CBS a few hours ago:

"CBS News has confirmed that in Washington, of the more than 35,000 people newly enrolled, 87 percent signed up for Medicaid. In Kentucky, out of 26,000 new enrollments, 82 percent are in Medicaid.

And in New York, of 37,000 enrollments, Medicaid accounts for 64 percent.

And there are similar stories across the country in nearly half of the states that run their own exchanges.

Medicaid experts say they're not sure why they're seeing the lopsided enrollment numbers, but point out it's easier to enroll in Medicaid than private insurance."

"Why do righties insist upon posting blatant lies here – day in and day out?"

Uh, because the information available when I typed the comment on 10/22 was that zero people had enrolled.

"Here are the facts as of a news release at 1430 hrs (EST) TODAY-...."

So what exactly does information released today have to do with information that was not available or released yesterday? Other than that a self-described "confused old man" (stated by you on 07/19/13) may be stymied by calenders?

By the way, nice use of all caps for the word "TODAY" to make that perfectly clear.

And since you were able to learn that on line, is there any chance you will now be providing proof of your claim you made on Oct. 4th:

"A curious statement considering the millions of Americans who are signing up for it...."

I can't understand why you are ducking that question rather than just say something like "It was just hyperbolic nonsense that I made up".

LOL

Or have gotten as far as where the information on the cost of the policies is and realized that there was no way they could afford the "affordable care" and still have money left over for food and housing.

I wouldn't worry my head if I were the original writer of this issue about poor ole Obama's legacy, I think he has already earned it! DESPICABLE he is!

"Let's see, paying into Social Security..."

Not mandatory for everyone, like you seem to think. Do a search using "how do I opt out of the social security system?". The answer is right there. I know actually checking before making claims is hard for you to grasp.

"obtaining a driver's license and registering your car, displaying license plates, paying sales and gas taxes, these are ALL MANDATORY...."

Wrong again, If I have a large enough piece of property, like a cattle ranch or farm, I am not required to have any of those at all if I only use the vehicle on my property. If I buy a car as an investment, say a classic Corvette, keep it in a garage with the intention of selling it for a profit at some point in the future I do not have to do any of the things you listed with the possible exception of sales and gas tax.

Thank you for putting the word "mandatory" in all caps. It made the idiocy of your claim that much easier to notice.

LOL

Yes, I am sure that all of the people in New York state who have now enrolled in obamarxcare healthcare are deleriously happy. Oooooops....scratch that. From Oct 1 until now, exactly ZERO New Yorkers have been able to enroll. lol

Since so few have been able to enroll through the rinky-dink healthcare (dot) gov website, you are really really premature with that claim.

Now be sure to beg us to "please give it a chance" once more.

Congress passes major legislation without even bothering to read it (evidently under White House pressure), and we are to regard it as the law of the land. To (delete) - that does not constitute a constitutional process, any more than a police officer violating your constitutional rights by approaching you on a lying premise ("we've received a report that someone matching your description was seen..." blah blah blah, probably anonymously, probably not at all, but nonetheless resulting in a police contact data entry from which their other crimes will follow). You're welcome to keep your own heads in the ground, but don't ask us to do so.

"It inevitably will drive independent companies out of business (the real goal here), go into single payer and twa la, the government will completely own you and your body,....

Sssshhhhhhhh.......you are letting the cat out of the bag. lol Leftists will never admit that is the goal and saving that until they believe it will be too late to do anything about it. That is why the fight to defund or in any way block funding and implementing of obamacare is so important. Did any of the previous efforts work in the House? No. But I prefer politicians who will stand on principle, even if they fail. So keep standing up for yours as well.

By the way, in case you want to use it in the future, it is actually "voila' " or, even better, "voila' tout" (meaning: that's all)

Yeah, the system is menus driven. Except, noone has been able to get the different menus up to compare them. Or anything else.

For the few who get in, the data they provide is showing up wrong. The news mentioned one man in one state actually signing up. Later we learned, he was the ONLY PERSON in that state to do so.

If they don't sign up 7 million in two months (hah!!), the prices will be driven up even more, even less will apply, no way they will be able to go after all those who don't sign up at all.

The further you delve into it, the worse the trainwreck going into a tsunami gets. And now Sebelius refuses to appear before an oversight committee - too busy going to that Boston gala this week I guess.

Divine intervention keeps coming to mind. Like confusing the languages? Remember that one? Hahaha!

"As you rail on about the evils of the ACA you come here and prove you know nothing about the system."

Talk about knowing nothing. Didn't you recently crow in your typical fashion that "millions of Americans are signing up" for obamacare?

Today, this came out:

"Obama administration officials say about 476,000 health insurance applications have been filed through new "Obamacare" exchanges."

They won't say how many of these people have been able to enroll in any insurance plans. Do you think it could be because only a embarrassingly small number have been able to do so?

My source? An article today at HuffPo. Hardly a "Rightie" source you can dismiss.

Looks like your claim of "millions" was just a another of your usual BS “facts”, with nothing behind it. Do you now wish you had waited before making that ridiculous statement, considering what a complete failure the launching of healthcare (dot) gov it has turned out to be so far? If this is any indication, the govt run healthcare system will be as big a failure.

But you just keep on hiding. And I will keep right on......

Speaking of which, do you have a source yet for that (delete) claim of yours?

What's a chacter?

My husband sold health insurance for 40 years. He carefully put together policies that fit the persons needs.

This is one size fits all, all kinds of things thrown in for each person to pay for. Spreading the pain it's called.

It inevitably will drive independent companies out of business (the real goal here), go into single payer and twa la, the government will completely own you and your body, the IRS will take any returns you may have coming if you don't get it.

I have no more time today. You can go to Rush Limbaugh's website and he explains it very well with a caller this week. I advise you to go there and read.

And who knows. You may just learn something else you need to know while there.

As you rail on about the evils of the ACA you come here and prove you know nothing about the system. That’s really kinda sad.

”Obamacare will be IT! …I didn't realize you were so not understanding this so I can imagine noone else is either.”

Once again who is this “noone” chacter you are always referring to? And once gain you have proved you have no knowledge of how the ACA atually works. Still kinda sad.

“And, absolutely, you will pay for other services you don't need.”

Nope, not really, the system will be menu driven. BTW every group health policy has services not needed by some of the participants.

“You don't have to be jealous of the very wealthy.”

Who’s jealous? Must be you since you brought it up. I am very content with my personal wealth and lifestyle.

“Just thought I'd give you a little lesson.”

And you failed.
