Letter: Advice, questions, laws

A vote to institute an additional property tax because the city doesn't know how to budget its money?

The golf course costs the city money, so sell it!

The pools cost the city money, so turn them off when the pools are closed for the year. Don't let them continue to run for 12 months when the pools are only open for two. We live in Arizona, the pools should be open for more than two months.

Turn off the lights in the city parks. Why are they on all night long when the parks are closed? The streetlights are already as dim as can be, why do the parks have more lights than the city streets do?

Why are sales taxes increased and decreased without a vote?

How about putting some ordinances in place and ticketing those who don't clean up their yards and leave their trash cans, dumpsters and cars all over sidewalks? That alone would raise several thousand dollars just in the area between Lee Williams High School and I-40. Pass out tickets to those who litter all over the city. I am embarrassed at how littered this city is. Don't just clean up the tourist areas, clean up the entire city.

Sue Kracker

Quick and to the point. Iam sure it is only the tip of the iceberg. Great letter, I only wish it would be noticed by everyone.

I saw a website over the weekend about surviving hard times. One man wrote how he goes to Wal Mart and buys dozens of (4.75 oz.) Vienna Chicken Sausage cans at 50 cents each, to get through a month. Also mentioned was the store's 74-cent cans of spaghetti & meatballs. Don't you think these people would prefer getting out of the house instead, to a restaurant or even take-out place? Or preparing something more elegant than canned survival food? Keep that in mind with the city budget. In these times, never mind how things have been done. Pretend you're broke, and act accordingly. Because you are.
