Letter: Remember ALL the victims of terrorism

To those who cry "remember Benghazi," I say, why have you forgotten the others?

Beirut, April 18, 1983 - 63 dead; Kuwait, Dec. 12,1983 - six dead; Beirut, Sept. 20, 1984 - 24 dead; Dar es Salaam and Nairobi, Aug. 7, 1998 - 4,000 injured and 224 dead; Calcutta, Jan. 22, 2002 - five dead; Karachi, June 14, 2002 - 51 injured and12 dead; Tash Kent, June 30, 2004 - two dead; Jeddah, Dec. 6, 2004 - 10 injured and nine dead; Istanbul, July 9, 2008 - one injured and six dead; and San'a, Sept. 7, 2008 - 16 injured and 19 dead.

Where is the outrage over these deaths?

Where were the cries for justice?

Our embassies get attacked no matter which party is in the White House. But it is hypocrisy to only remember the one.

And worse, it does a disservice to those who were killed, as if their families' sacrifice was less.

Marla Kiriakidis

"I know people who personally knew Ambassador Stevens,"

Which means exactly nothing at all

No one is claiming a “Grassy Knoll,” in Benghazi.

No one is stating that Obama planned the murder of Stevens and those brave Americans.

What we are claiming is Incompetence!

For example additional security request denials from Clinton.

This because the administration wanted to have a low profile and present a position of trusting submission and deference by presenting weakness/trust in our foreign security.

It’s similar to a dog showing trust by presenting their belly to a master or like bowing to a foreign king.

Then we have the lack of response.

Every excuse in the book given why we couldn’t even BEGIN a response.

We had troops ready, willing and able to go and could have been there in hours. No one even tried.

It took the FBI 10 days to show up and investigate, while our enemies and even reporters had rummaged through and found Confidential and Secret documents in the rubble.

The men behind the attack have been granting interviews with the press but the FBI and the Obama’s administration’s response is NOT to pursue these people but to put out Wanted Posters in English asking for information on the attack.

So THAT’S just a few issues.

As probably the only person here that has worked in a US Embassy and Consulate, I would like to remind you all that no one - NO ONE wants any Americans or even FSNs - Foreign Service Nationals - harmed, even in extreme circumstances. The security that State takes is beyond that taken by any other government, and while it is crazy over the top, it is obviously not enough sometimes.

State FSOs are close-knit and receive a lot of support from DOD and other Federal agencies, with whom they are also very tight. I know people who personally knew Ambassador Stevens, and all of you conspiracy theorists only make yourselves look like callus idiots when you throw around accusations. While you think this will be some magic shield for the GOP in 2016, remember the human lives you're now using as a soapbox.

Lori:

The part you left out was Hillary arranged for the Libyans to police our people in Benghazi, OUR people repeatedly asked for OUR help and were ignored and Hillary and crew had accidentally purchased weapons from Al Qaeda, then re bought them, shipped them thru Turkey to Syria...again shipping them to the WRONG side.

She didn't want this to get out so our people were expendable.

Also left out was the intimidation on those there in person by this administration if they dared speak out with what they knew.

Some now are with the help of subpoenas. Did you know, they begged for help, said we're going to die if YOU don't send help. Help WAS available, we didn't send it. That is the worst kind of reprehensible.

Her testimony stating "what does it matter if some guys in the streets wanted to rebel against A TAPE" is almost as bad as blaming Bill Clinton's sexual escapades with Monica Lewinsky on a right wing conspiracy.

And THIS is who the left wants for POTUS? God help us all.

Bush is not going to be remembered for the slow response to Katrina. He will be remembered for his administrations two worthless and costly wars which has killed thousands (not four) of lives and 9/11. Katrina was an act of nature that couldn't have been prevented. However Iraq and Afghanistan could have been prevented by simply verifying information.

Well Captain..Like I asked you before, give me examples of how badly the left treated Reagan and Bush. All you need to do is provide an example or two. You can do better than your doing, just try. Don't be like most of the conservative Yadda-yadda talk show people and just make accusations. Help us out here!

Bush is blamed for slow response to Katrina though neither Obama nor Klinton have any culpability in Benghazi.

On the 28th, Bush PERSONALLY called Gov. Blanco and Mayor Nagin, asking them to evacuate and request a declaration of emergency so the federal government could free up funds and manpower (Official request is required, as per the “Stafford Act,” if not requested, it’s called AN INVASION!) To which they then agreed to evacuate. And later requesting disaster relief but failing to request for the coastal areas of Louisiana.

The next day Bush approved request and the relief waiting outside the state line stormed in to help and bailout both inept and ignorant, Good Times Mayor Nagin and Screamin Liberal Skirt, Blanco.

But “I found out when you did Obama” is fund raising while our people are being killed in Libya, ignoring and refusing to act, even though we had troops ready, willing and able to respond.

I’m a Veteran of 21 years, don’t say we couldn’t have been there within several hours...I know better, you don’t.

But the still liberal makes excuses for our Affirmative Action, Special Needs Presidency.

Obama wouldn’t make a decent pimple on a real President’s butt.

President Clinton must be tutoring Obama again as Obama has taken up biting his lower lip like Clinton does....anyone notice? I wonder if Clinton has taught him to change from the laughing mode to the crying mode in a matter of seconds?.....just a thought!

LGD, you may as well be talking to a wall because even though you researched it, there will be 101 others reasons it was Obama's administrations fault. However, because the other embassies were attacked under a Republican rule, and 9/11 happened under Republican rule, and the wars were started under Republican rule, it makes it all okay.

There is a big difference in the level of protection between an embassy and a consulate. When Ambassador Stevens and three other American were killed in the attack at the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, they were supposed to be protected by Libyan and State Department security officers, the Diplomatic Security Service that Ambassador Stevens regularly traveled with and, most of all, the Benghazi Police force.

Marine Corps spokeswoman Capt. Kendra Motz said, "As an 'interim facility,' the consulate would not be protected by the contingent of Marines that regularly safeguards embassies."

"The Benghazi consulate had “lock-and-key” security, not the same level of defenses as a formal embassy," an intelligence source told POLITICO. "That means it had no bulletproof glass, reinforced doors or other features common to embassies."

So, the Benghazi policeman who was seen photographing the interior of the consulate (see my other post) may be a pretty good sign that the protesters knew exactly where Stevens and the others would be. Since the Benghazi police should have been protecting the consulate, but didn't, I'd say they may have been the instigators of that attack, or at least knew about it, so stayed away.

According to Politico, After the attack, several documents were found. "One such document said that the consulate had asked Libyan authorities on Sept. 9 for extra security measures in preparation for Stevens’ visit, but that the Libyans had failed to provide promised support. We requested daily, twenty-four hour police protection at the front and rear of the U.S. mission as well as a roving patrol. In addition we requested the services of a police explosive detection dog. We were given assurances from the highest authorities in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs that all due support would be provided for Ambassador Stevens’ visit to Benghazi. However, we are saddened to report that we have only received an occasional police presence at our main gate. Many hours pass when we have no police support at all,” the letter reads.

Another document, written by the IT officer killed in the assault said, “We saw one of our ‘police’ that guard the compound taking pictures of the inside of the consulate,” he wrote just hours before the assault."

The Benghazi police and the Libyan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, whose job it was to protect the consulate failed miserably. Perhaps on purpose?

Tea party on Koch, I'm sure Kingman already knows how badly the left treated Reagan and Bush and if you're too young or too forgetful, I recommend you go back to the archives and read all about it.....
Like I said these Presidents couldn't use racism as an excuse as this president does and all his blind followers do!
Now our blamer-in-chief is saying it is the fault of the Republicans the obamacare rip off is failing......WOW what a jerk!

So exactly what were the crimes of the over thousands that have died due to Bushes regime? Oh that's right, a Republican can do no harm, he was mislead. But he was in charge, it was his responsibility.....you know, all the same stuff you say about Obama.

Texas just had it first elections since putting in place new photo I.D. laws The turnout was greater than before the requirement. So much for leftist screeching about voter suppression.
Source:

Source? cnn(dot)com 11/12/13 "Texas voter ID law didn't suppress vote"

Is the voter suppression claim one of those very special things that only you, with your very special gift of "know"ing that others do not have are aware of?

Maybe you should watch the news more often.

Well, lets see. With the exception of the Nairobi bombing, all of those other attacks happened under a Republican president.

Just remember IOKIYAR (Its OK if you are a Republican). Its only an outrage if you're a Democrat--especially one of the wrong color with a furrin' sounding name.

Just because someone talks about something doesnt mean they forget about the other instances. If you say "remember or fallen soldiers from desert storm", it doesnt mean they have forgotten about every other war in history. Do you want them to refer to all terrorist attacks before speaking?? I just dont see how this letter makes any sense at all. I think the liberals really just dont want anyone to pay attention to this because it makes their precious obama lord look bad.

"...I say, why have you forgotten the others? "

I've not forgotten any of them, I knew some people in Beirut that were killed at the embassy and some Marines that were killed in the collapse of the barracks at the airport.

The difference is that all those incidents were investigated, not stonewalled or covered up. Now we have, "I don't know, I can't remember ,at this point, what difference does it make" and all requests for information as to what The Failure was doing when this happened have been denied.

We all know he was going to a campaign event in NV, this was much more important than having an embarrassment to destroy their stupid mantra about al-Qaida being destroyed. They just died at an inconvenient time.

This one is extremely important because the Obama administration, Hillary Clinton and others were complicit in a cover up, immediately sending Susan Rice out to blame it on a 7 minute video noone saw or knew existed. A man was wrongfully jailed. Innocents died needlessly...due to the lies. AND it was 9-11.

From this lie, we knew something was amiss. And it still is. Yesterday, finally after a year and administration roadblocks, witnesses were interrogated behind closed doors where they testified to begging for help, knew the WH knew, said without help they would die.

No help was sent in spite of months of warning from Benghazi that their security was no good. Yesterday we learned, it was an insider job due to the accuracy of shots on them.

Clinton lied, Jay Carney lied, Obama lied, Susan Rice lied, General Hamm of Africon, when trying to send help was removed from his position immediately.

There is the problem of weapons at Benghazi that our admin was sending via Turkey to Syria w/out us knowing it , etc etc etc.

So yes, there was a big difference with this one. Heads should roll and people should be in jail.

So another words, lets all forget Benghazi and think about something else. I'm sure Hillary and Obama would love for this fiasco to go away especially with "what difference does it make" Hillary wanting to be another tax and spend president.
I guess we should also just forget about the IRS scandal, the Obama care rip off and the rest of the Obama screw ups and just think about how wonderful things are going.
Sorry, it just does not work that way especially the way the left treated Reagan and George Bush....and they could not rely on "racism" to use as an excuse.

I agree totally and thanks for writing it. We Americans are like Rome before the fall. We can't even seem to find the time to vote, and now the rightwing wants to make it even harder. Seems to me voting should be made easier not harder. It ought to last for a week and we should be encouraging everyone to vote. But unfortunately this is what happens when a political party tries to turn tragedy into a political gain.

The letter writer is resorting to the same tired old liberal trick of using half the story in an attempt to justify her position.
Anytime there are US Citizens in dangerous locations in the world, there is a possibility they will be harmed. What makes Benghazi different is that the embassy knew that there were grave security concerns and repeatedly relayed these concerns to the state department. These messages were ignored and when the attack occurred the military was commanded to stand down.
The US government knowingly let the ambassador and his staff be attacked and killed and did absolutely nothing to intervene.
And, of course, there were the elaborate lies to the American public and the world about the cause and source of the attack.
Apples and oranges are both fruit, but that is where the similarities end.
