Kingman Letters: Letter was 'short on facts'
Joy Brotherton
Joy Brotherton

Just read the letter in the paper from Rick Veradt (Nov. 27). Mr. Veradt seems to be a little short on facts. I did not say anyone was "worthless." I did not say the City Council were "idiots" and I did not email co-workers that my "friend" should get the job.

The one email I sent was expressing my disappointment in their selection. All of the name-calling has been created by Mr. Veradt.

I am certainly aware of Mr. Lingenfelter's qualifications and so are many, many other people. Even though we were not included in the process, we will be affected by the results if we live in Kingman.

I have a right to my opinion, as does Mr. Veradt. I am not trying to change his opinion and he certainly has not changed mine.

Joy Brotherton

Mohave County Supervisor District 4

Dear Editor,
I was surprised Joy Brotherton responded to my letter to your paper. I was going to respond to her response but thought better of it.
You see, then I would have to explain the meaning words like observation, inference, oblivious, opinion and gadfly.
Further I would have to explain phrases like "tongue in cheek", "public opinion", "baiting the hook" and...well I think you understand.
Life is too short and I am already 65 years old. As much as I would like to continue this( How often do you get the right set-up person) I must say " No more"!
I surrender this battle before it is a war. I fear this could consume way too much of that precious time I have left.

Brothernton attitude has completely changed from when she was campaigning to being elected. My family & I have not seen any benefit by her representation. She won a close primary and has yet from our observation to fulfill any of her campaign promises. Unfortunately she appears to be more of the same pushing the goals and agenda of the old timers over the needs of the people she pretends to represents .

Article comment by: I agree with Joy Brotherton! Not Mr.Veradt

It seems Mr. Veradt has his facts wrong. He even goes against what he has stated in the past KDM about how you can't believe & shouldn't rely on everything you read from others in the news. Joy Brotherton has accomplished many things her first year as she promised Has anyone taken the time or effort to see what the BO'S has done? It seems there are those who prefer to always want to stir uo negative or to see problems rather than the cup being half full. I am saddened by the attitudes of some but this is their choice. I thank God that Joy stands up for what she believes Maybe some should take time to get to really know the BOS instead of sitting back judging. Walk a mile in someone's shoes. But then I know that for some, you wouldn't even make an effort to try.

Ms Brotherton, you should have let it lay! You have an opinion and could have gone to council to voice it. Instead you go to the newspaper and it is blown out of proportion. You have placed a wall between you and the council, was it really worth it? When you are stating YOUR opinions DO NOT use your title as supervisor. Poor judgement all around. Sometimes experience and knowledge in the position should weigh high when making decisions that affect the success and financial stability of the city. If you weigh the qualifications stated in the minor, the new city manager is the top contender. He got fired, perhaps politics played a big part in it. Some officials get recalled based on politics doesn't mean they weren't good in the position. Get over it and move on. The decision was made.

@ Kingman Lifer

And you will be going to the city and pulling the proper petition papers when? Yeah, that's what I thought. Typical all spew and no action.

BTW - it would appear as if many people in Mohave County support Ms Brotherton - you see she won the election and you...well you know.

@To Be Fair Yes, but look at the bang up job the city has done so far with City Managers.

The KDM needs to stop pandering and get back to real news reporting to keep everyone accountable.

My only response is (and I hope a council member can confirm this) did you use a personal email or the county email? Did you use a county provided computer or your personal computer? If you used anything county related you were NOT just speaking your opinion, but those you serve and I don't think we as constituents asked for your opinion or the BOS's for your $.02 in a city matter. They made a decision based on who they felt was the right person. Just because your on the BOS doesn't mean you are politically great then the city council! I would retract your statements and offer a public apology to the Kingman City Council! Thank You!

These posters need to get a life if this is the biggest thing they have to complain about.

A tempest in a teapot. Joy Brotherton is a good woman who gave her honest opinion. Perhaps the posters are just not used to some honesty. I totally agree with her remarks.

Is it just me or if you are a woman and a Christian both, you are automatically attacked? Like Sarah Palin for instance? The LIngenfelters were Christians also as Mrs. Lingenfelter was my daughters Sunday school teacher. Just a thought that crossed my mind.

I personally seek out Christians to vote for as usually you can value and trust their judgement to see the right and wrong in making decisions.

I think Joy needs to pack her bags and get out of the political game, she is a joke, a waste of space that the county can fill with somebody who knows what they are doing. I vote for Travis he's qualified. Just saying at least he knows what he's doing, unlike her. RECALL is not need when we voters can vote her out.

We agree with the comments by Kingman Voter she is smug & disrespectful. My wife and I along with our family
and neighbors are prepared to sign a recall petition should
One be circulated.

I will NEVER vote for this smug woman. She has no respect for others, she does NOT represent me! She has created a hostile relationship between the city and the county and does not deserve to keep her seat. We may as well have Walker back. He thought it was okay to verbally attack the cities too.

Yes, you are entitled to your opinion. However, please remember (and take it seriously) that any time you sign your name with your county supervisor title, you are speaking on our behalf.

Ms. Brotherton is an honest person. She, like many others know Mr. Lingenfelter's qualifications which are outstanding plus he has the unique qualities of honesty, openness, and integrity. Ms. Brotherton has a right to her own opinion as does M. Veradt. Just because she is a Supervisor is not a reason for her withhold her opinion on any matter.

Maybe the city council should have chosen a Kingman resident but they are privileged to facts that the rest of us do not have.

My only question to you is why you think you should have been included in the process? There are many decisions that the board of supervisors make that impact the residents of Mohave county that we are not included in and as a result we will be affected by your decisions.

Ms Brotherton, you are about to see why people use pseudonyms when they answer comments.

I would only say, enjoy your ONE term as a supervisor, for the voters believe and vote accordingly.

Go get them Joy! Speaking your mind is what we elected you for. Travis Lingenfelter should have been hired. He was committed to this community and highly qualified. But as usual, being from Kingman is a deficit not an asset to the powers that be. The people higher up in our city, county, and schools feel threatened by any local that is qualified so they do nationwide searches looking for what we already have. They pay extra to relocate people and throw money to the wind on candidates that leave in a year or less. Then start all over again.
