Letter: Medical care lacking

Doctors, nurses, pharmacists, laboratory personnel, medical front and back office personnel, medical billing departments and patient relations:

If you do not have what it takes to do your job efficiently, and do them with a bit of compassion, professionalism and caring, then find another career field. In my nine years in Kingman, I have witnessed too much incompetence and negligence in the medical field. Don't blame Obama. It's all about attitude.

We Kingmanintes, on the whole, are not wealthy people. Don't squeeze us, give us sub-standard care, and then talk to us like we are idiots! I speak for myself, and all of the rest of us in Kingman who may be sick and ask for nothing more than what we pay for, and a bit of human dignity.

And before you respond to this letter with all of the "positive" medical experiences here in Kingman, please note that you have not seen nor been through my own personal experiences. I have dealt with misdiagnosis resulting in a loved one's death, nursing staff errors and pharmaceutical negligence. Just to name a few instances. Something needs to be done to improve the health and welfare of our citizens. I'm fed up with the medical care in Kingman.

David Riordon

I strongly agree with EVERYTHIG daviid said and I have also experienced many mistakes that I have caught with pharmacies and doctors &dentists offices. I had a Dr. Prescribe me something that I told him was not covered by my insurance OR was for my symptoms and he wrote the rx anyways. It was a $350.00 RX and he didnt care, I know he wants To go on that drug cruise but not at my expense!! when I left the office and realized he didn't answer all my questions I was told I had to male another appt. and if I didn't like it to find another dr. That was completely uncalled for and it hurt me. Coming form Los Angeles I see the difference in medical care. If I knew this before I bought my house. I would have looked elsewhere because medical care is important to me.

Please take note. Your opinions about the state of medical care here in the Kingman area are monitored by health professionals and the posters are treated accordingly. I have posted numerous negative but truthful comments about the medical profession in this area and have subsequently received several nasty attitudes and even a few harmful acts from these so-called professionals. But most of my complaints are in regard to the arrogant and self-important support staff, some of whom even have the doctors fearful of chastising them.

You are wise in your decision, even if you have to sacrifice, my health has also deteriorated out here and I have never gotten any 'tangible' answers either,as soon as I am able to, I will leave this place also.. Good Luck.

Nephew-
You are quite correct. I am out of my league. The bush leagues are...well...not challenging. I will return to the Majors. Thanks for reminding me of my place.

There are good and bad Dr.s here, just like the place we lived @ before coming here.

When we 1st came here we got a Dr. available and she was bad, so we got another Dr. and she is good. If you feel a Dr. isn't dong their job properly, get a 2nd opinion if you can.

A back specialist after seeing Xrays and a MRI of my back said I needed to fuse my back and he couldn't guarantee that would fix my problem. I told him I've known too many people who have had their backs operated on and after the surgery they were worse off than before it. But he gave me 2 out of area Dr.s to try. I tried the back specialist in Las Vegas and he gave me 2 generic pills for daily use and this has taken care of my problem. What a difference going to the right Dr. makes !

I understand completely what David is going through.I lost a loved one to medical incompetence here. My own health been getting progressively worse and have been treated like I don't know my own body. I WAS a healthy early 40s person a year ago. I have been passed from one dr. to another. They do NOT look at the history, just deal with the latest issue. I can no longer play with my son and can not longer do many things I used to do. They want to react to symptoms and are not interested in finding the underlying CAUSE of anything. I never feel well anymore.I am finally being sent to Phoenix and hopefully they will do the legwork that should have been done long ago. I just hope it is not too late and that I can get my health back. And as to Anson's Nephew's remark, I am getting out. It means leaving a job I have had for years and possibly no insurance. But then again, better alive elsewhere than dead in Mohave County...I am more than fed up, I am afraid for my life...

“It is strange that you invite a fellow to relocate to somewhere better suited to his needs.”

What is strange about it? The guy seems to have nothing but problems with the local medical community – which has nothing to with the ACA – so it makes sense that he move on to where he can obtain the care he feels he deserves.

Why you attack me when this guy is the one with the “problem” and I recommend a solution to said “problem” is indeed puzzling.

And yes, liberals are entitled to speak their own opinion. Or do you feel that is something that should also be disallowed.

I’m sorry, Unc, but – as usual – you’re way out of your league here.

“A.N. are you packed yet?”

Why would I be packed? I am perfectly content – in fact very pleased – with the quality of healthcare I receive. Of course I don’t live in Kingman, so I can’t speak to that, other than commenting on the people who constantly complain about healthcare there and suggesting they move.

When you find the magic place that has medical perfection, please let us know. It might take a really long time to accomplish tho.

We Love KRMC . They have saved my husbands life on 3 separate occasions . They are compassionate and caring people . And it starts as soon as you walk through the ER doors . The ER doctors and nurses are top notch . The admitting people are courteous and actually care about you and your needs . The girls that draw your blood are fantastic and don't leave you all bruised up . We couldn't ask for better care than what we have received at KRMC .

I have to chime in and say, yes David, I have been to Drs offices here in this 'town' where the nurse assnt couldn't even read a simple 'urine' test, I have seen people 'misdiagnosed and die, as you have, and one dr. wanted to cut into my throat/thyroid unnecessarily, lucky I got a second opinion from a dr. out of town..and let me add this also extends to the dentists, I have seen 3 different ones and got 3 different opinions about the same tooth, still have issues with it.
I come from a big city and (yea, before all of you start with the 'why don't you go back) believe me I wish I could, I had drs. back there and dentists who knew what they were doing.
I agree wholeheartedly with David's letter, seen it with my own eyes.

David.... so very true in many cases. In addition to this are the insurances, private, state and Worker's Comp, this insurance does not care for nor intend to assist the injured worker. The doctors that I have seen, are governed by what the work comp. case worker tells them to do or not to do. What happened to the oath that the doctors and nurse take??

Nephew-
It is strange that you invite a fellow to relocate to somewhere better suited to his needs. So you admit Obama does not have the answer or David could simply stay here and get treatment? Wait, Obama will change attitudes of the medical community through forced compliance? I guess liberals are entitled to speak their own opinion but it's pretty strange how different one side of the mouth sounds from the other side.
Have a nice day.

David, Some people The only advice they have ever been able to come up with has been. By golly, pack up and move if you find something wrong with your present situation here in Kingman. "But" they always forget to say where, Their mouth is engaged while their brain is not. Some day, they may actually experience what you, your self have gone thru!! LOL

My advice, since I have alienated many a doctor or nurse from time to time And I have two daughters who are in the medical field.
Their advice to "WAH" has been, "Dad" that doctor or nurse just might "not" be having a fun day them self's, but if they are truly wrong speak up and let them know it and if that get's you no where, speak to who ever you have to too, to make it right.

Moving would be the last thing I would do and if I did it would be because I wanted to, not because some heckler from the back row said so!!!

It's not just here. I recently had an equally bad experience in Las Vegas but fortunately has not resulted in a death.
The VA clinic here needs to change up some of their personnel. ...Veterans deserve more respect than what I have seen there.

David,
I hope that in spite of your experiences in Kingman, that you were able to get the help you needed. (I say this as a person with no attachments to any office here.)

I've worked in the medical field, and I too can vouch for the fact that the system in Kingman is very lacking.

Time for a system overhaul or at the very least a consultant to tell them the truth. Hmmm I don't think that will ever happen. I just tell the staff and doctor how I feel. Better to be black listed as a patient than to risk your health.
I've turned many bad offices into compassionate ones. It all begins with the leader of the pack.
But what do I know...I'm just nobody.

I'm Just Sayin'

Maybe you are seeing the wrong doctor. Try BHC or LHC. Or if you chose to stay in Kingman, just change doctors.
