Letter: Foxes killed senselessly

Yesterday my husband and I took a drive south of Kingman on I-40 then towards Alamo Lake.

We turned at the road to Wikieup and parked under a tree to have our picnic lunch. It was then we noticed a pregnant kit fox and her mate had been killed and their tails removed.

Fried chicken had been used to lure them. There were hot dog buns tossed in cholla and lots of broken bright orange target disks around.

Javelina hunting is in progress, but we do not like our wildlife killed senselessly or our beautiful desert trashed!

@ Lake Mead City - I guess I got unintended results. I belong to no organization whose purpose is to hunt ANY animals. I don't know of any people of the earth who do, unless your definition is different than mine, which it seems to be. I simply believe that the people brought up in Mohave County are not any more sour, nasty and ugly than anyone else moving in from elsewhere. Whoever DID hurt and kill the foxes are among the most loathsome creatures, regardless of from where they came.

"I Beg to Differ"...You people of the earth organize hunts to kill coyotes (48 killed I read) how did they taste? Organize to kill the Magnificent elk and big horn sheep and anything else that moves." People of the Earth kill only for survival and self defense". Take the $15,000 you spend on your hunting quad and the $2,500 you spend on guns and ammo and buy some food. Or the next time you are attached by a Kit Fox, walk away

Julie and Uncle...read it again.
"a pregnant kit fox... ". A kit is a pup, wouldn't be pregnant, and wouldn't have a mate. It was most likely a vixen (adult female fox).

I basically said that the act was abhorrent to me.

Nuff said.

The cruelty and neglect I have seen in this city has been terrible towards animals. There are many wonderful people too of course however many folks are simply not good animal custodians. This story does not surprise me however it did bring tears to my eyes to read how mean humans can be. My aunt found a dead dog tied to a live one tossed in a dumpster last year. People can be idiots. Makes you wonder how many horrible acts they do that nobody finds out about. Sad commentary :( Please speak up when you see abuse or neglect. Animals can't speak up for themselves!

So what exactly is the difference between a person who would participate in an organized annual coyote killing contest and someone who would shoot foxes?

V Stokes- it was a senseless act against a Kit Fox. Please google it up. I hate to correct you, however.....

A lot of those "Sour faces and nasty attitudes" in Mohave County that Midwest Momma mentions, are from those that have moved into Mohave County who are used to things being different from whence they came. Most of those that were raised in Mohave County are people of the earth, and don't believe in killing for killing's sake or for killing for fun or profit. They believe in killing only for survival and for self-defense.

V Stokes, your commentary is so petty and beyond useless, why bother. And I must correct YOU...the writer of this article did not use any term at all to describe the pregnant female fox or her unborn offspring that would even necessitate such a correction.

Marilyn, what a heartbreaking picnic breaking discovery. Do you have more photos showing the baiting? I think you should report this to the AZGFD immediately 692-7700.

Although I hate to hear of such an act...I have to correct you on one thing. A female fox is a vixen. A kit is a pup.

It made me sick to read this and see the photo in the print edition. But after living in this area for nearly 20 yrs it no longer surprises me. I have seen a lot of mean-spiritedness since I got here and unfortunately the amount of outright ugliness outweighs the many nice people I have met. Sour faces and nasty attitudes and Mohave County seem to go together, unfortunately. Every time I leave the house, I see people that look like a couple hundred miles of bad road and it shows on their faces. I feel sorry for any man or beast that crosses their path like these poor animals. Hunting for food is one thing, doing something like this is another. This was cruelty. I hope that whoever did this gets it back in kind someday.
