Letter: Take it with a smile!

We reserve the right to tell you how to conduct your life, and yes business. Just like France or some other quasi-socialist country.

So go ahead. Buy your sign - We Reserve The Right To Refuse Anyone - and try to implement it. Forget about your constitutional right of separation of state and religious freedom. Or the fact you may not want to serve illegal aliens, or drunks, or rude, obnoxious, swearing, half-nude customers.

So just smile, and say thank you.

OK, don't buy the damn sign! Instead, if a gay person or atheist or nude person enters your place of business, you might try, "Sorry, we are closed," while you wait on someone else.

The fact that we are even are talking about this seems stupid. When the Hell's Angels come to your place or the Black Panthers, will the government show up and say you must serve them regardless of the damage they may do?

As a customer, would you really want to go to a place that shuns you, treats you like an idiot? Frankly, I have never wanted to stay in a place like that, let alone buy a hamburger or wedding cake there.

While we are at it, should we not be able to tell you that your business should take down the decor that we find distasteful?

Soon enough, the governments of the world will have microchips to correct such unpopular thoughts and actions, depending on who is in power at the time. Hello, "Minority Report" on steroids - and who in their right mind even wants a Constitution or Bill of Rights?

Liberty and personal freedom, like privacy, no longer apply. So shut your mouth, smile, and pretend you like it.

Jack Shepherd

"A huge class of people with outstretched hands"

I agree. Example, the number of people fraudulently collecting SSDI benefits is skyrocketing

None of us fully appreciate the context in which this country's Founding Fathers composed the Constitution and related documents. Many of them had lost 2/3 or more of their siblings to disease in childhood, Europe had been devastated in the Thirty Years War, only to see the Ottoman Empire move against a weakened continent (and here, the name of Jan Sobieski should be placed alongside history's greatest heroes). Holland took in Europe's persecuted Protestants, and William III brought the Jews among them to England about two generations before America's Constitution was signed. This was the background to America's culture of freedom. Neither Kings, Sultans, nor Popes could bestow favours or persecution upon people for their beliefs. But I think everybody here should carefully consider just what those contesting beliefs were (hint - Catholic, Protestant, & Judaism. A couple sops were thrown to Islam - while we fought their crimes at Tripoli and should be thankful that they had been thoroughly destroyed at the historic Battle of Lepanto earlier). We are now confronted with wildly aggressive homosexual agendas, insane revisionist school agendas, and a huge class of people with outstretched hands.
