Letter of thanks: Arbor Day successful

Cerbat Garden Club would like to thank all those who made the 2014 Arbor Day Program such a success. Thank you to the fifth-grade teachers who invited Cerbat Garden Club volunteers into their classes and encouraged students to participate in the Arbor Day Poster Contest. Thank you to the 298 students who submitted a poster for the contest and to their parents for allowing them to participate. Each of those 298 students received a Hackberry tree sapling of their own to take home and plant.

Thanks to Dave Tribbett of Desert Sage Nursery for providing his expertise and time, and for ordering the saplings. Thank you to the local businesses and individuals who provided funding for the purchase of the saplings and the cash awards to first place poster winners: Deana Nelson/State Farm Insurance, Chris Wagner/The Gun Shop, Libby Mathiesen, Dr. James Allen/Cornerstone Podiatry, Dr. Ted Kimball/Absolute Smiles Dentistry, Scott Lander/A 2 Z Roofing and Supply, Nucor Steel, Attorney Thomas E. Price, Dr. Kelly John Corbridge and Clean City Commission.

Thank you to the Daily Miner for donating plastic sleeves for the saplings and great media coverage. Thanks to Cascades Tissue Group for paper toweling to wrap the sapling roots, Taco Bell for coupons, McKee Foods for snacks, Mike Sparrow of Servpro for bottled water, Jamie Taylor and KRMC for apples, Hualapai KwikStop for ice and Island Palms Nursery for delivering six beautiful trees.

We gratefully acknowledge the assistance at the Community Celebration and Tree-Planting in Lewis Kingman Park on Saturday, March 29, provided by Rich Ruggles and Sherie Sixkiller-Wing, city of Kingman, Clean City Commission, Mayor Janet Watson, Kingman Parks and Recreation/Guy Reynolds and Kingman Area Master Gardeners. Our sincere gratitude and appreciation to everyone who took part in this year's event.

We look forward to working with all these fine people and next year's fifth-graders at Arbor Day 2015.
