5/12/2014 6:00:00 AM Letter of thanks: The firefighter tradition
My husband Brian Stewart did not want a funeral. I would not have had a service had his friends and employees at Grand Canyon West Airport not asked to be able to honor him.
"Thank you" cannot possibly convey the depth of appreciation I feel. The ceremony was truly wonderful. They honored my husband in the firefighter tradition, bagpipes and all. I could not have asked for anything more.
I want to express my sincere gratitude to Grand Canyon West and the Hualapai Tribe, and to Ruby Steele and Rory Magenty for allowing us to have the service at the airport, where Brian was the assistant airport manager and firefighter. Most of his staff was able to attend on Mohave County free day; most of his friends and family were able to come as well.
A very special thank you to Tracy Big John, who made it happen, Leon Montgomery for the wonderful tributes, Angelica Borbon, Brian's boss and the amazing group of men and women firefighters and EMTs who worked with Brian and honored and protected me.
I'm sure, somewhere above, Brian was watching, stunned and amazed at the tribute. He was humble, and would never have imagined how many people cared.
