"Nowhere in this nation do you have to join a union to get or keep a job."

Hmmm...though I don't remember all the details, my step-son got a part-time job at a grocery store in CA about 7 yrs ago. He had to pay union dues of some sort. I'm not sure if he was actually a member or not. This was for a job that he worked about 20-25 hrs a week stocking and eventually a cashier as well. He had no benefits other than those afforded by law (workmens comp, etc). He had no choice in whether he paid the dues or not. Pretty much sounds like he had to "join" to get the job.

Luckily he only stayed a few months...he found better paying PT work making pizzas than he did at the "union" job. (And we got free pizza!)

“Really? And if you choose not to belong to a union are you also free from paying the dues they demand?”

Once again we have a nonsense question that can only be answered with another question. If you are not required to join a union, then why would you have to pay dues to a union?

Article comment by: Me Myself and I Mr. C,

@ A.N. Good points, I have actively worked and represented workers in both situation and I have worked in a third environment where (one) was on hes/her own, neither represented by anyone but ones own self. The difference's between the three is hardly worth debating.

One thing for certain, the Vietcong didn't care where "that" explosive was made or came from, nor our services men/women just as long, as it worked. if someone were to ask, they would learn almost 22000 MEN, WOMEN and EX-VIETNAM SERVICEMEN were helping in sending them (the north Vietnamese) to hell, via a right to work state, with a union enrollment rate of almost 87 percent and all of us worked under a union contract, Same package for everyone AND I NEVER LEARNED HOW TO TELL THEM APART.

P.S........Unions, state and local government, School dist: have shrank in numbers that stagger the imagination, now why is that?

“You are a very smart woman, they don't often make them like that any more.”

Thank you for the laugh – that is the funniest comment of the eek.

“It was not unusual for UAW members that i knew to have compensation packages that totaled $70-80 per hour. Salary and benefits.”

Wrong, but nothing new about that BS that has been debunked for more than four years. No UAW worker has ever approached $70 to $80 an hour in straight time even with benefits figured in.

”The only companies that remain profitable here are those that remain in right-to-work states instead of forced union membership states.

There is no such thing as “forced union membership states.” And of course so called “right to work” states have the greatest number of uninsured people in the nation putting their health care costs on the backs of taxpayers.

And it has always fascinated me that products made in so called “right to work” states cost just as much, if not more, than products made in states with large numbers of union workers. One would think that if it costs less to produce a product those cost savings would be passed on to the consumer – right?

“… you have to join a union to get or keep a job-that's wrong.”

Nowhere in this nation do you have to join a union to get or keep a job.

What killed the American plants were when unions started interfering with the company's work rules. Coupled with extreme environmental and OSHA regulations. What business in their right mind would stay here.?
The only companies that remain profitable here are those that remain in right-to-work states instead of forced union membership states. We value freedom but yes, you have to join a union to get or keep a job-that's wrong.

Now, UAW means U Ain't Working.

“Are you talking about the Republicans who are against people making 80 dollars an hour putting a bolt on a nut at some union factory?”

Would you please provide us with a list of the companies (or company) that pay a worker $80 to put a nut on a bolt (the correct way to phrase that)? Thank you.

“… why our companies are moving to China…”

Well one reason is because anti-American sleazes like Willard the Money Hider buy American companies, pillage them, put Americans out on the street and then move the company to COMMUNIST CHINA where they invest in sweatshops in order to line their greedy pockets and then hide money off-shore to avoid paying taxes. THAT is why companies are moved to China.

“Evidently your of the mind that Republicans are for dirty air and dirty water as a lot of your comrades think,…”

Well it certainly isn’t me or my “comrades” (cute, but stupid comment) who want to do away with the EPA, cut all regulations having to do with air pollution and increase the amount of arsenic allowed in our water. Those would be the right wing loon idiot fringe Republicans.

“have you been watching the news about Obama buying the illegal vote by making them voters”

Since no such news exists it is impossible to watch any such stories.

“Who is it that wants to trash the constitution?”

I would hazard a guess that with all of the attempts to supress voters and to alter the intent of the Electoral College it would be the Republicans.

It is time for you to stop being a tool of the Right and actually do some research.

Are you talking about the Republicans who are against people making 80 dollars an hour putting a bolt on a nut at some union factory?
I'm a Republican and always demanded the most money I could get for any job I did, where did you get the rediculous idea that we are against people making a living wage?
You need to stop reading your union news letter and start doing the research, as to why our companies are moving to China and one of the many reasons other than our governments regulations is that the Unions got really greedy and companies could not afford them.
Evidently your of the mind that Republicans are for dirty air and dirty water as a lot of your comrades think, but I drink the water as my family does and breath the air and want the best of both worlds....wise up fellow.
You also mentioned swaying votes in their favor have you been watching the news about obama
buying the illegal vote by making them voters...what do you think that is all about?
Who is it that wants to trash the constitution?
It sure isn't the Republicans....do some research pal and be an educated voter.

Since today's Republican Party is opposed to American workers receiving a daily wage that can feed them, and demands that corroborate bosses can skip paying taxes that honest workers must pay, I say the Republicans are Anti-American traitors. Since the Republican Congress, and Senators voted to send American jobs over seas tax free, I say they are Anti-American traitors. Since the Republicans have gerrymandered electoral districts so that they "win" with the fewest votes, they are Anti-American traitors.

It is really very simple.

Capt Nice and Mr. Gaither:

Great answers!

In case you missed it, I wanted to advise you of what we are getting for our money from Janet Napolitano, head of Homeland Security but thankfully, out of Arizona.

She has put out a tipster sheet for us.

In a nutshell:
1. Don't go out in the snow or when the weather is bad.
2. If you do, walk carefully so you won't slip and fall.
3. Don't shovel snow as it could cause you to have a heart attack.
4. Some heart attacks can kill you.
5. If you must shovel snow, do some exercises first.

Thank God for this brilliancy. I was just heading for the Hualapais without a coat and with a shovel. It is women like her, Feinstein (hell bent on dumping guns today) and Hillary Clinton that make American women look like complete asses.

We are all Americans but some are very misguided in their thinking, but we Americans
will hang in there another four years and try to undo the damage when Americans see the errors of their ways....hopefully!
Walter aren't you forgetting the libertarians etc, are they not Americans?

I would like to be able to answer that I am an American, BUT, since the Democratic party is hell-bent on changing America into a socialist/nanny state, I have no choice but to oppose them by being a Republican, until the socialist Democratic party is no longer a threat to our nation!
