Guest Column: Freedom and prosperity go hand-in-hand
Luca Zanna
Golden Valley Resident

People prosper where there is freedom. It's a fact. When America was the beacon of freedom in the world, then we were the most prosperous nation among all. Same story for the different states of this Union. Not every state is created equal, and the same for counties, towns, cities, villages. Ingenuity and freedom can overcome almost everything (with God's help).

When freedom is lacking, people suffer and so does the economy. One example: California. A state with abundant natural resources, perhaps the most in the Union ... and it's broke.

My personal experience is even stronger. I come from Italy, where for a small business or individual it is almost impossible to thrive and survive because of all the restrictions, red tape, corruption and oppressive policies ... but more important, because you don't live under a Bill of Rights. Rather, you live under a system of "corporate" regulations imposed on you by powerful bureaucrats.

This oppressive environment destroys every breath of hope and desire to invest and create wealth. Yes, prosperity needs freedom as food for the soul of the individuals who want to risk to invest and dare in creating wealth for themselves and indirectly for others. The only condition to guarantee this desire in human beings is that certain basic individual rights must be always protected. Life, property, due process and the basic individual rights enumerated in the Bill of Rights should be always respected, even and especially in the "county" business.

Even when we are having a business meeting, we should never disregard our Constitution and Bill of Rights. We don't want to live under admiralty laws but under a Constitution and Bill of Rights. I want to commend county Supervisors Hildy Angius, Steve Moss, Joy Brotherton, Gary Watson for having shown in the first month that reinstating basic individual rights is the most important message that we can send all over the world: Here in Mohave County we are still America. This is going to be the most important tool to create wealth and prosperity.

As I speak I have two friends, business owners from California, who are putting their homes up for sale and are ready to bring their business to Mohave County. They did not need any county agency for development to be motivated to move here. They don't come here for the Riviera, or for the beach, or the golf club, or the fine restaurants. These individuals could afford to live anywhere in the world, but they want to come here in Mohave County because they want to live like free Americans, with a Bill of Rights and a sheriff ready to defend it. They want to exercise their First and Second Amendment rights, they want to be protected "in their persons, houses, papers and effects" from unreasonable searches ... and so on. While the rest of the country is falling into the darkness of tyranny, here in Mohave County we are working hard to reinstating those rights.

Even with all the problems, imperfections and challenges, there is no other place in the world I would rather live. I'm proud to say Mohave County, Arizona, is my home.

Please, supervisors, keep the course of your great start. Uphold our Constitution in every decision you will make and prosperity will follow with God's help.

@Doing Research

"gun companies slow production and.... prices go up. Econ 101."

And anyone calling themself "Doing Research" will have no trouble at all telling us which gun companies are doing that now and providing evidence to back up that claim, right? Didn't think so.

Henry Ford increased making Model T's while lowering the price. So much for your Econ 101 theory.

So your claim is pretty much just speculation on your part.

LOL

@Fox Hound.....things aren't nearly as genteel as you portray - not while tens of millions (U.S. citizens) wither with criminal records from a War On Drugs which can only be described as absolutely rife with Government crime, corporate profiteering, and irrational thought. Then you have the criminal invasion of America. I will not lower myself to the level of idiocy with the need to explain this in-our-faces disaster (and remember - the same Rule Of Law which destroys Americans' lives by the millions, and is rife with Government crime, is used by Presidents to grant citizenship to these law-breakers). You HAVE read (it's available online) that the new NSA facility in Bluffdale, Utah will not only continue the Government's practise of stealing all our private communications, but store them forever. From the environment to the political process and other major components of American culture, there are issues which should not be considered trivial, or simply the realm of complainers. And this is a place for expressing those views - as opposed, say, to religious settings where the slightest reference to life's realities seem to be regarded as heresy.

Mr. Luca welcome to our country I don't know how long you have been here because you seem to be confused about freedom. I would agree that we have lost freedom as that is what happens when people live together in a free country.Everybody can't be happy about everything all the time. In a free country there will always be people that are disappointed and not happy with the statis quo. Can you and others tell me exactly what freedoms you have lost and want back? It seems to me the only thing you lost was an election.
You seem to still have free speach as I'm reading your letter. So what is it that you feel you have lost. Laws are just ideas that try and create a level playing field. They don't always work. Not all ideas are equal. You have the idea that God willing things will be better. That is your right to believe that, here in this free country you choose to come to. But to many of us who do not share your religion you might as well have said Things will be better if the Easterbunny is willing. You are free to believe what you wish and I'm free to think it is folly. That is the essence of Freedom. You mention that Ca. is broke. How many Republican gov. have been elected in Ca. Seems to me they all wanted to cut taxes and increase services, and they call that being a conservative. Ca is broke because they have the most poeple and they have to provide services and care for the many people who have come there and lost their jobs to foreign countries who don't have all these rules. People cost money Mr. Luca no matter where they are. If your answer is to start paying poeple what the Chinese pay their workers your not going to win a lot of elections here.

Anson's Nephew
We have went thur this before and you will not believe any thing I give you, The UK has lost pubs that have been around for hundreds of years do to smoking bans. I have been fighting the bans since they started in Calif.
Boeing to move one small machine from one building to another about 300 feet, Over $10,000 n fees to the city, and state. Spill any thing and it was considered a hazardous spill and minimum fine was $1000. They packed up all aircraft work at my plant an sent it to China. Some work went to Russia an Mexico.
And yes there are over 100 million with no job in his country. You are supposed to keep up with the news but only do what they give you to say. You should know they only count the people drawing unemployment. They do not count all that have lost their unemployment. I know many here who do not have a job an are not counted.

The YouTube video that informs the listener about the extraordinary numbers of guns being ordered (which, to me, defies logic that the orders are coming from us average American citizens),
can also be found at:

Listen to this video, and draw your own conclusions.

I'm going to say that I agree with everything Anson's Nephew has posted on here so far.

Nothing he's said has been crazy, a factless claim, or regurgitated Rush Limbaugh garbage. Thank you, sir.

@az mac. I honestly think you are just stirring the pot with fiction there.

@ammo shortage
Yes, ammo shortage because people are buying guns at record rates - gun companies slow production and.... prices go up. Econ 101.

@justanobody
Romney is a great example of someone most Republicans love because they imagine him to be some noble businessman. But reality is that he did in fact did outsource American jobs and ship them to China, which made him the successful businessman you all love so much. Ironic, yes, but why most voters figured this out back in October, the people of Kingman seem to be a little slow at picking that up.

@whatever
Are the eggs rational thought? Or facts? What is the house in this analogy? The guy was just questioning some VERY dubious claims, which had he not, I would have done the same. The rest of the world calls this the "Scientific method" and it's been used pretty successfully for a few hundred years to explain things that used to just be "magic" or something.

I didn't realise the police and FBI were breaking into that many homes daily. Does that include motel rooms, as well?

“anson's you cannot get past Romney, can you?”

Nope and I will keep reminding the fools that backed that anti-American sleaze just how ignorant they were as a constant reminder as to what happens when they blindly follow such a useless individual.

“… he didn't win,…”

And we can thank God for that.

“… yet you continue to show your disdain ( and ignorance) for him and the republican party,…”

Yep, disdain to the max for anyone who wanted to see an anti-American sleaze in the White House. As to ignorance? Not on my part, the ignorance rests with the party that selected such a loser.

“… move on! get over it!”

Oh I’m over it, but I will continue to remind the Republicans of how and why they lost.

“The smoking bans have killed thousands of small business.”

Please provide proof of this assertion, thank you.

“Regulations have made many companies move to another country.”

No, that would be the actions of anti-American low-life’s (like Willard the Money Hider) who shut down American businesses and sent American jobs to COMMUNIST CHINA!

“Many companies will close,…”

Let’s see your predictions over the past two years were about the imminent – with dates specified – collapse of the dollar. So I seriously doubt this latest prediction.

“We have over 100 million without jobs and it is growing.”

Hmm, not even close to being correct. BLS reports 12.3 million – still too high but nowhere near a third of our population.

“There are over 5000 home invasions a DAY.’

That would be 1,825,000 home invasions a year. Can I ask where you got that figure?

Great letter. And so absolutely true!

It is pitiful there are those in this area who consistently follow the obama line that daily takes yet more of our freedoms away in the form of choking EPA regulations and every other type of regulation that keeps a heavy boot on our necks. Obamacare, when fully implemented, will be the worst.

I have found it so hard to understand these people who, after experiencing the most free country on earth, will give it all up for one fraudulent man a man who even got into office by his followers complicit in throwing both elections.

Listen to those who have lived in Europe. They know!! Before it is too late. This frog has been in the pot way too long. The water is boiling and he is nearly done. There is not much time left.

As Ronald Reagan warned us, once you have lost freedoms, it is very hard to ever gain them back.

Freedom and prosperity may go hand-in-hand, but it was/is paid for by Americans who fight and die for the rest of us to enjoy them. The second part of Rich Thurlow's Editorial Column: "Mount Tipton can needs another kick" covertly describes the government's continous purchase of extraordinarily large amounts of ammunition. A YouTube video (Important Message - Glock Pistols and Magazines 2-1-2013) informs us of the huge backorders and lengthy supply times for rifles, magazines, Glocks and other handguns. Sounds to me the government is buying everything up as a backdoor effort to keep legal weapons out of the hands of it's citizens. Why?

Good article. Most people do not realize that regulations, and fees kill much business. The smoking bans have killed thousands of small business. Regulations have made many companies move to another country. When business were allowed to run their business their way this country prospered. Now the government tells them what they can an can not do, who they will serve. All this runs prices up. What ever the government gets involved in, it costs the people more money. Today Obama care has companies doing away with full time help and only doing part time. Many companies will close, many big companies are shutting down stores. We have over 100 million without jobs and it is growing. Crime is rising and the more who lose their jobs or have their wages cut will cause more crime. There are over 5000 home invasions a DAY.
It is back to the constitution or lose this country.
