Kingman Letters: Income not keeping up with costs

Has your income doubled in the last ten years? Well, I'll bet your utilities have.

Just a bit of info to make your day. From May through August of 2002, my average combined utilities were $130 per month. In 2012, same time period, the average was $250.75 per month. That's very close to a 100 percent increase. How many people have doubled their income in this time frame?

Electric and water had the largest gain, and I'm sure this inflation would apply to everything except your income. Is the main reason for this the devaluation of the dollar or corporation greed?

Article comment by: They're All Millionaire, Only Rich Republican Reps Only Help The Rich

To answer the obsurd more Dems are rich than Rep - first of all - they are all millionaires in congress. But to answer Just Nobody's comment, at least the Democrat rich congressmen stand up for the poor, want social services to help the needy, defend women's right to choose, want the war machine to cut spending as much as social programs, and want everyone a voice in their government by voting. The present rich Republican congressman only represent corporations, their fellow rich, want the masses to pay for the rich's programs such as farm subsidies for large agra-farms and charter schools like KAOL, are too busy sticking their noses in woman's bodies, trying to repress the vote, and want the war industry to continue to sell those $1,000 toilet seats to the pentagon.

@ The Tea Party is on Koch

Most republicans are not as invested in the "our side vs. the other side" rhetoric as you libs are. In fact Conservatives are republicans only because that is the party closest to their beliefs, although, it seems that the republicans in Congress represent closer to the liberal stand point than the conservative one.

In general, republicans are issue focused. The mis-use of entitlement programs is a big issue for republicans, regardless of who is on the receiving end of the entitlement.

When people are not working, they are not contributing. When the same person, who is not working, receives tax dollars it doubles the drain on society. When record numbers of people on on this path, it is not economically sustainable and eventually the economy fails, which hurts the working contributors as well as the takers.

Sensible people, with no matter to party affiliation, do not want the US to continue on this path.

"What if that 24 year old with the alcohol problem were a republican? I bet your tune would change then, huh?"

I know it would not change mine simply because, as I told the guy who you are addressing, you cannot receive a disbility check for being an alcoholic, it is not considered a disability.

So it appears you know just as little as he does about it.

Know nothing liberal, meet know nothing conservative.

LOL

"Yes, I'm 24 and have an addiction to alcohol. I want income for life. I'm disabled."

While there are many ridiculous things the govt. will give a person a disability check for life for, alcoholism is not one of them. Don't believe me? Just do a search using "is alcoholism considered a disability for which you can get SSDI" The answer pops right up.......And it is NO.

@Roger

What you want to do is look into "The stagnation of American wages."

Essentially, American wages relative to costs and wages of other workers in other nations have leveled out. It started in the mid 70's, but really ramped up in 2003.

There's a lot of economic research into this, mostly trying to see what's causing it and how to fix it.

What if that 24 year old with the alcohol problem were a republican? I bet your tune would change then, huh? I think there are just as many republicans out for the "free money" as there are democrats! Prove me wrong!

Actually you couldn't be more wrong about the generic suppliers. They are not the name brand manufacturers or suppliers, but some of the grocers themselves, buying directly from the suppliers themselves!
No advertising, little overhead, no delivery issues, lower prices!

The biggest daily expenses going up for me is the price of food, something we can't live without. Markup in most food is very low. The problem is all the expenses to sell food eventually keep going up. So the retailers of food have to raise their prices accordingly. At the same time brands have to meet or beat competitors prices or lose customers.

A few soda brands are more expensive than they have to be because they have loyal customers who won't drink any other brand. I buy generic soda and save a bunch right there. Who do you think makes all the generic brands available? The brand name suppliers. I bet you think there are other companies who make generic soda. You're wrong.

This is true on a lot of things you purchase. Try a generic commodity and see if you can really taste any difference in quality. Brand names have to pay for advertising, whereas generic brands don't.

I keep saying everything going up except my income and it falls on deaf ears.
Our policticans have no regard for our hardships they continue to receive there's while draining us.
Special interest over the people's interest.
I totally agree they all should be voted out!
But the problem with that is until the voter turn
Out increases and the policticans hope that does happen
Will we "all" get true representation and just "special interest.

Welcome to Republican Arizona. The Republican way. Take from the poor and give to the rich. Oh wait you voted for them. Next time before you cast your vote, don't vote against your best interest.

Well, my water has gone up quite a bit over the last 7 years...not doubled though. And my electric has increased by less than $10 on average. Of course much depends on the weather and thermostat setting. Better conservation habits may have helped as well.

The only time I have a combined bill (elec, gas, and H2O) of over $250 would be in the very hottest times of the year with no rain.

Your greedy democrats have in effect stolen your social security by including disability payments for very specious diagnoses. "Yes, I'm 24 and have an addiction to alcohol. I want income for life. I'm disabled."
What started as a pension for retirees, has ballooned into a mess.

Devaluing the dollar? Bernanke and obama are "monetizing" the debt. Printing money. Wall Street goes up but the reality is, the dollar doesn't buy as much because it's not backed by assets. Under obama, it's being threatened by other currencies such as the yuan and the euro.

Excessive regulation in the oil and gas industry and environmental extremism along with increased worldwide demand have doubled what we pay for gasoline since the obama regime was installed. Electricity has to come from another source of energy. It's not magic, coal, oil and natural gas have to be consumed to produce electricity.

With the obamacare monstrosity killing more jobs, it's time to vote the democrats out in the next election. And yes, let's term limit these congressmen and senators. Incumbents become difficult to remove because of special interests like the radical environmentalists and labor unions.

It may come as a shock to many people, but every little thing that happens in your life, good or bad, is not the result of the evil politicians from either party.
The period Mr. Vonnahme was referring to was a 4 month period in 2002 and 2012. That's a 10 year difference and most everything went up to some degree.
Without going in to who controlled Congress, roughly 5 and a half years was a R president and 4 and a half a D president. In the last 20 and a half years we had a R for 8 years and a D for 12 and a half.
Certainly some of their policies etc. had an impact on all prices, but to say kick out all R's is a little disingenuous not to mention silly, just as it would be to say kick out all D's.
The divisiveness that has developed in the last few years may be helping your party, but is hurting America, but then that is just what some people are working toward unfortunately.
Try not to be one of those and future generations may still get to live in the U.S.A.

Corporate greed for sure. The rich will try every possible scheme to maximize profits. They don`t care if your on a fixed income, or work 2 jobs to make ends meet. They don`t care if they trash the economy. The divide between rich and poor is the highest since 1927! Entitlement, a word they live by. Remember, come election time, vote out ALL Republicans!

Welcome to the real world. Your representatives don't care about your or your income. If possible they would like to steal the Social Security that you paid into in the name of cutting the budget. Meanwhile, oil companies keep getting subsidies that they don't need. Sorry can't help you! Quit voting party line and get someone in office that restores the respect to the middle class.
