Letter: Let's not be 'rivals'

What a great experience it was to attend the first football game between two Kingman high schools: Kingman Academy and Lee Williams High School!

It was, by far, the best football game I have ever seen! I think all of our kids in Kingman are really swell.

The word "rival" does not seem correct for our three schools, so I would like to propose we call it "Our Cross-Town Friends."

How about it?

Well tj you have tried to "enlighten" me, but you have fallen quite short. Sorry man, but I think you are grabbing at straws. You would like there to be a "rivalry", right? It appears to me that you still do not understand what a "rivalry" is, and I understand where you come from politically. I don't need any part of that. I think for myself!

Well tea party, its fine for you to speak on it. You simply dont know what you are talking about. They had a big rivalry when the academy soccer team whooped on them in 07, then north refused to scrimmage the academy in football. Then kids from north poured paint over several cars during the academy's prom. There you go bud, you are "enlightened" now. Any other things you need to know?? Political enlightenment maybe? How to mix the sugar into the kool-aid properly?

Well tj, I have the right as an American to speak on anything I want to! Isn't thar part of the "tea party" mantra? Pray tell me what KHS and KAHS "rival" about anyway. And who is doing the "rivaling"? Enlighten me.

"Giggles, I went to Both high schools, North and the academy. Did you? So I don't need to "check" anything. I know first hand."

Making statements like you made earlier shows that one of them is not true. You either didn't go to both, or you need to check.

Tea party.

Yes i did have a bad experience at north campus...their school is horrible. As i pointed out in my previous comment, over crowding and terrible teacher student relations amongst so many other things plague that school. That doesn't mean "revenge" is my motive, just pointing something out. Also, in case you don't know, there is a big rivalry between the schools, ever since the "K" downtown was changed to a "kahs" in 2006. I know that you liberals take everything as an insult but its just not. What i would like to know is how you know if there is or is not a rivalry there unless you have attended either school since the Academy high school's conception. If you didn't, then why are you speaking on a matter that you are ignorant of?

As a student for Kingman Academy, us students do see each other as rivals, but not in a bad way. We all like playing against each other because we all know each other. We just like to show each other up, but not be cocky about it.

I completely agree with LWHS Parent. We should be proud of all of our Kingman Students regardless of what school they attend.

I think the adults make it more a "RIVAL" than the student's! And I don't care what school you attend, they all have their own issues. How about we just support all our student's, at least they are getting involved, staying active instead of sitting in front of a TV, or wasting their day away on social media. I commend "all student's, any school" who have chosen to be involved. Way to go kids!

"It has less drugs, fights and incidents, as well as an enforced dress code that doesn't allow the students to dress like idiots, actually appearing presentable, and yet everyone is always crying about it."

You need to do some more checking.

Youre paying for the academy the same as you are paying for kusd. The high school was already so overcrowded they had to make a new one. It was so big that the students grades were horrible and teachers didn't know their own students. The academy however produces higher average GPA's and a higher attendance rate. It has less drugs, fights and incidents, as well as an enforced dress code that doesn't allow the students to dress like idiots, actually appearing presentable, and yet everyone is always crying about it. It just doesn't make any sense to me that people want better education available, and when it actually is, you want to railroad it. Oh well, Keep it up academy!! The bulldogs are weak sauce and this rivalry will never die!!!!

Article comment by: We're Paying for Small Selected Group

How disgusting that us tax payers are paying for the "selected" ones to have their own school. `If KUSD, isn't good enough for these folks fine - PAY YOUR OWN WAY. Pay your own way and we don't care where you send your kids.

And exactly what are we paying Betty Rowe and her daughter Susan Chan to run their schools? Remember, this is all tax payers money and yes, WE DO HAVE THE RIGHT TO KNOW THESE SALARIES.
