Editorial: For Iraq, might as well blame Bush

Rich Thurlow
Editor

The information from the polling firm shows that voters blame Bush and Obama equally for what is happening in Iraq now.

That reminds me of what John McCain said back when he was in the process of having his hat handed to him by Barack Obama. When asked about the U.S. commitment to Iraq, McCain responded, in so many words, by saying the U.S. would stay 100 years.

It's kind of startling when you hear it, but it makes sense in the context of the U.S. still having troops in countries in Europe and the Pacific even though WWII has been over close to 70 years.

But no one ever sold U.S. voters on keeping the Army, Marines and Air Force in Iraq for generations. McCain may have tried, but the backlash from that soundbite seemed to shut him up on that topic.

So, simply put, I'll blame Bush.

Six months before he left office Iraq had been pacified. The bloody days were, for the most part, behind us. Bush should have found a way to set up military bases with soldiers and jets near the borders with Iran and Syria while keeping a strong presence in Baghdad. He could have written a Status of Forces Agreement for 50 years and told al-Maliki (I keep thinking his first name is "Fresno," but I know that can't be right) to sign - or else.

I'd guess 20,000 troops with lots of mobility would be plenty, especially with the right rules of engagement.

That kind of established presence would have made it that much harder for Obama to walk away, especially when he figured out the AP was going to discontinue the daily death toll - a staple of AP's Iraq/Afghanistan coverage when Bush occupied the Oval Office.

Instead, U.S. forces basically pulled out in 2011 and now in 2014, whatever we gained by ridding the world of Saddam Hussein has been forfeited to bloodthirsty savages marauding through Iraq and Syria. What we spent in Iraq in young lives and U.S. treasure has been wasted.

And what will become of Jordan and Lebanon?

•••

You've got to feel for the people who have elevated amounts of heavy metals in their blood. Some of them attended Wednesday night's meeting on contrails.

As someone in this office pointed out, what this means is that some people have elevated amounts of heavy metals in their blood, but it doesn't prove anything else. If the chemt ... oops, contrails were responsible, wouldn't everyone not restricted to the indoors have the same medical condition?

Or is this so sophisticated the metals involved are able to pick and choose who to attack?

I'm waiting for an answer from the EPA.

•••

The headline in Friday's Miner reads: "Should we be worried?" placed under the "New rules have been proposed for endangered species habitat" kicker.

Now, back to the topic. Yes, worry. Anytime the federal government decides it's time for new rules on public lands, you should worry - especially when the government assures you there is nothing to worry about. It may not impact you, but some people are going to take a beating on this one way or the other.

“Oh and as for Bush...He was ELECTED. Get over it.”

Have I ever said he was not elected? What a goofy statement.

“Do you continue to blame someone for events 6 years ago?”

Yes, I do when it is something that negatively impacts me. My first wife was murdered by a drunk driver over fifty years ago and I still blame the SOB and always will.

“Lefties are all about the blame....but what about a solution? Come up with one every now and again…”

I have long posted solutions and in the case of fools like The Criminal I point out the best thing to do is never, ever, vote in a GOPer or TEAbillie, period.

“Because when all you do is blame the past guy…”

So you are totally above fixing blame for the deaths of thousands of Americans on America soil and thousands of our troops killed in a Holy War based on lies and the near destruction of our nations economy? Fine – then you should have no complaints at all when efforts to clean-up such a mess continue.

Yep, shame on Congress for not doing it's JOB, but instead rubber-stamping what they are told. Congress not vetting the truth is as bad as it gets.

Ever hear the story about the Boston Strangler and Texas Congress? Sounds like the US Congress is taking a page out of Texas's playbook.

Oh and as for Bush...He was ELECTED. Get over it. Same thing the Lefties say about Obamma being elected...Get over it. Bush has not been in office for over 6 years now. Do you continue to blame someone for events 6 years ago? or do you move on and work through it?

Lefties are all about the blame....but what about a solution? Come up with one every now and again and maybe people will start to listen to your ideas. Because when all you do is blame the past guy, well, it makes you look.....childish. Waaah, mommy, Jimmy stole my bike 6 years ago.."Son, that was 6 years ago, you are now 12, grow up and stop blaming Jimmy."

The only consolation is the right wing has so damaged their fiscal genius status under George Bush Jr, its like Herbert Hoover and his era, it will take decades for folks to get old enough, senile enough and die off in enough numbers before they can fool anyone like that a second time!

Geo W Bush just decided to go into Iraq and depose it's leader.
----
No Bush did what Cheney told him to do. Which was lie to the country about weapons of mass destruction so that Cheney and Halliburton could make some money. Cheney now has voided the Clean Water Act so he can frack the world and make more money.
Once presidents leave office many of them continue working with charities, human services etc. Clinton and Carter come to mind. Bush paints. Or thinks he paints.

“As for Congress being lied to....Shame on Congress for not vetting the truth before voting.....”

Yeah, I know, stupid Congress actually believing the president and his minions would not lie us into a war with a nation that posed so threat to us. They should have known when dealing with the only convicted criminal ever appointed to the White House that he would do what criminals always do – lie, all of the time, about everything.

Absolutely not! It was all for profit, just ask Cheney if you can get him to tell the truth, if not, then ask Haliburton.

@Ms Athens

“Poll out today….”

What happened to your position that “polls lie and cannot be trusted?”

“I go to MSNBC, they have NO news…blah, blah blah…”

Interesting how you are incapable of telling the truth about anything – ever. MSNBC extensively covered the open border lies from FAUX News and the parentless children at length yesterday and this mornining. As to the “scandals” since there are none, there is nothing to report.

“I don't suppose any lefties bothered watching Megyn Kelly's…”

Isn’t Megyn Kelly on FAUX News, the outlet that you have claimed for years to “never watch?” And no, Dear, “lefties” have much better things to do with their time than watch some “news” outlet that went to court and demanded the right to lie about, distort and make up news stories. Why anyone would watch such trash is a total mystery.

“Ayers is a liar, an unrepentent terrorist and a complete scumbag.”

Ahh, as usual how very “Christian” and judgmental of you. Jesus would be so proud.

Poll out today - includes left, right, middle.

Obama the worst president - that is what the majority thought.

A Wyoming newspaper also came out with an apology for endorsing obama in 2008. What a terrible mistake they made.

Amazing how obama is sinking like a rock and left wingers have no clue. I go to MSNBC, they have NO news on the open borders, parentless children from Central America, all the scandals, the latest that could land Lois Lerner in the slammer, etc. They live in a far left wing bubble which allows no truth in at all.

I don't suppose any lefties bothered watching Megyn Kelly's two part interview with obama's good, good friend Bill Ayers that launched his Senate run out of he and wife Bernardine Dohrn's Chicago living room.

Ayers is a liar, an unrepentent terrorist and a complete scumbag. Dohrn was on the FBI's Ten Most Wanted list and yet, they both are now professors at big universities as are many who were in Ayers Weather Underground.

He admitted to 20 bombings, ONLY 20 compared to 20,000 during the Vietnam Era. And would not personally admit to bomb making himself...his secret. Dohrn was charged w/murder - got off on an error.

“Bob Moore: You haven't got the slightest clue about what was behind the Iraq war.”

I fully realize that I do not have the “secret” access to government information that you, and only you, possess. However, what I do know – as do millions of Americans not fooled by right wing propaganda – is The Criminal and his minions lied to Congress and the American people in order to get us involved in a Holy War with a nation that posed no threat to us.

”One day soon, when I have the time, I'm going to educate you on it.”

Your track record for presenting anything closely akin to the truth is abysmal. So you will not be educating me on anything – ever.

“There were no TWELVE SCANDALS GOING AT ONCE WITH W.”

All of the “scandals” have proven to be bogus, but The Criminal is responsible for the deaths of thousands of Americans on American soil, thousands of troops in his two wars and close to a million civilians in both Afghanistan and Iraq.

”What are you going to say when it comes out obama's BC is a total fraud?”

Never going to happen. Once again I direct you to the “Trip to Birtherville” bog from 9/17/13 in the archives that you promised to dispute. Still waiting.

Bob Moore:

You haven't got the slightest clue about what was behind the Iraq war. Not even a clue.

One day soon, when I have the time, I'm going to educate you on it. You apparently think, for no reason at all, Geo W Bush just decided to go into Iraq and depose it's leader.

There is a story behind the lies of the left about Iraq. And as we can see, W certainly did a better job in every way then the huckster fraud in the White House now. There were no TWELVE SCANDALS GOING AT ONCE WITH W.

What are you going to say when it comes out obama's BC is a total fraud? Not to worry, the WH always has some lie they push out those who are always all to willing to buy it hook, line and sinker without ever doing any independent research about the truth.

"Sorry AN the worst President in US History is the foreigner that currently sits in the White House."

That makes him smarter than all the Republicans, Democrats, FBI, CIA, Secret Service, and every American who voted in the last two Presidential elections. Pretty darn good for a foreigner!

“Sorry AN the worst President in US History is the foreigner that currently sits in the White House.”

Sorry KD but Canada (aka Rafael) Ted – the actual “foreigner” – has not yet been elected.

“Running America AND it's wars, no matter who started it or why they were started, has been Obama's responsibility for over 6 years now.”

Yes, you are quite correct and he has effectively shut down one of The Criminals wars against a nation that posed no threat to us and is working at getting our troops out of the other morass started by the only convicted criminal ever appointed to the White House.

”When will we hold this community organizer accountable and responsible for his actions/inactions.”

I personally hold Obama totally responsible for getting our troops out of the war started by a convicted criminal based on lies. Kudos to president Obama who has also worked to bring us out of the economic disaster created by that same convicted criminal and his minions. And soon we will be able to congratulate him on getting our troops out of the convicted criminals other war.

Running America AND it's wars, no matter who started it or why they were started, has been Obama's responsibility for over 6 years now.

When will we hold this community organizer accountable and responsible for his actions/inactions.

And does his excuse of not knowing about an issue until he hears about it on TV really wash? Is it acceptable?

Affirmative Action standards should NEVER apply to the person running our country.

Thank God, McCain is not president, talk about our military being stretch thin. Everytime he open’s his mouth, he calling for war. War with Syria, Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, North Korea and Russia. I guess if McCain was president then there would be a draft for sure.

It’s funny how the GOP quickly forgets. It was Bush who negotiated the deal that called for all troops to leave Iraq by 2011 and not Obama. Yet it’s the GOP blaming Obama for not keeping troops in Iraq. It’s also funny how Iraq is quickly resembling Vietnam. Both were unpopular wars, both ended in a U.S. pullout and Iraq will end up falling to just like Vietnam.

Yeah I blame Bush for the murder of my Marine cousin. He did not die for my freedoms, he died for a Bush family gruge. Saddam tried to kill Bush’s daddy, so Jr. decided to kill Saddam while at the same time murdering my cousin along with over 4,000 American soldiers. Dying for my freedoms? PLEASE! The last American solider to die for my freedom was in World War II, the last time a legal war that was declared by congress as the constitution states instead of a BS congressional resolution called for by the War Powers Act.

“So, simply put, I'll blame Bush.”

And simply put, you would be right.
The Criminal lied us into our involvement in a Holy War that has been going on for millennia and was too stupid to realize no one ever wins a Holy War.

“Six months before he left office Iraq had been pacified.”

One has to smile in sadness at the revisionist history of the righties who will do anything to defend the worst president in the history of our nation.

“Instead, U.S. forces basically pulled out in 2011…”

At the request of the Iraqi government who insisted we “get out!” They allowed a very minimal presence for the embassy and that was it.

“What we spent in Iraq in young lives and U.S. treasure has been wasted.”

It was a waste from day one when The Criminal lied to the American people and Congress to avenge his Daddy.

In my opinion if the Iraqis and the Syrians and the Iranians want to kill each other – let ‘em. We’ve expended enough money and lives on stupid Holy Wars.

Bush? Early in Bush's presidency, I heard Cheny say in an interview "Everything that reaches President Bush's desk will go across my desk first." Cheny had just finished an 8 (?) year stint as CEO for Haliburton who received many of the no bid contracts. Remember the $45 toilet lids. I blame Bush for letting Cheny run things.

As for the chemtrail people. Who did their blood tests? Has anyone seen them or researched the testing facility???

As for the endangered species. I think it is a way for the government to get their hands on our public land such as not allowing cattle to be run, people to hunt or use the land we have enjoyed. Between them and Rhodes, we may be left holding the bag. An empty one.

Good article Rich.

People need to stop blaming republicans or democrats, there is no difference between the two. One thing I notice with people is that they are always at each others throat with making sure that they neighbors are not braking any environmental laws, at the same time they never notice that their federal government is getting bigger and bigger, until one day it will be too late to fix the problem.
