KINGMAN - Budget Blinds of Lake Havasu and Kingman was one of 14 small businesses in the state recognized for its success after consulting with the Mohave Community College Small Business Development Center.

"We were excited and felt honored to receive the Success Award," said LeeAnn Benton, who owns the business with her husband, Ed.

The Bentons and other small business owners were feted at an awards ceremony March 18 in Phoenix that was hosted by the Arizona Small Business Development Center Network.

The couple sought the SBDC's help after struggling with a decision - whether LeeAnn Benton should leave her full-time job and join her husband at the business.

The center advised the Bentons and she joined Ed in May 2011.

The business has seen its revenue grow by 200 percent since they bought the company in 2006. It now serves customers throughout Mohave County.

"They were the classic case of trying to pay the bills and grow a new business. They were faced with those make-or-break decisions," said Lori Martinek of the state small business group.

The SBDC at Mohave Community College offers free, personal and confidential counseling for new and existing small business owners.
