American Legion Auxiliary Unit 14: The Unit was well-represented at the American Legion Auxiliary Department of Arizona's annual convention held in Carefree, Ariz., June 20-23. The Unit was the winner of three awards: the Crisler Prayer Book Plaque, Cece Curtis, chaplain; the Cora Grigg Past Presidents Parley Plaque, Dana Brock, chairman; and the Kitchen Publicity Plaque, Ann Seney and Rebecca Faris, co-chairmen. Also received were runner-up awards for the Rasmussen District History Plaque, Mary Ellis, District 7 historian; and the Helen Blakeslee Memorial Plaque for units with 150 members and under, Rebecca Faris, unit history author.

Belles of St. Mary's: Thirty-six kids and 12 teen counselors all herded by seven adults! That was the scene last week as the Catholic Vacation Bible School radiated through the Parish Center. The theme was focused on the Seven Sacraments: Baptism, Holy Eucharist, Confirmation, Reconciliation, Anointing of the Sick, Matrimony and Holy Orders. These sacraments were brought to life by St. John the Baptist, St. Martin de Porres, St. Kateri Tekakwitha, St. Padre Pio, St. Gianna Beretta Molla and St. John Vianney, all beautifully portrayed by our own Catholic "youttes"! All this was brought to fruition by "one-who-must-not-be-named" but her initials are MPT! Kudos to you and your team! Next up, we Belles will be most active as serving hostesses for a youth pilgrimage. St. Brigid Parish, coming from Michigan on July 22, will be welcomed to our parish as overnight guests. Thirty-nine teens, 11 adults and two priests are shepherding this tour of America as their equivalent of World Youth Day. The opportunity to meet and mingle with our youngsters is anticipated as a wonderful introduction to life's unexpected windfalls. Saturday will be the celebration to honor Saints Peter and Paul, pillars of our church, and then we have the Fourth of July - the official Declaration of Independence, aka birthday of our United States. Remember, please, to doff our hats, clasp your hands in thanksgiving to our God almighty who made this all happen, and blesses us still.
