KINGMAN - Kingman Regional Medical Center has relocated its Acute Rehabilitation Unit to a 12,000 square foot space on the second floor of the former Hualapai Mountain Medical Center, the hospital announced last week.

KRMC purchased the building in August 2011 and renamed it KRMC Hualapai Mountain Campus.

The Acute Rehabilitation Unit provides rehabilitation services on an inpatient basis for people injured by an accident, stroke, or other disabling condition, said KRMC spokeswoman Jamie Taylor.

The new unit at HMC is equipped with the latest rehabilitation technologies and staffed by physical, occupational and speech therapists, she said.

The unit includes 12 private patient rooms, a specially equipped therapy gym, kitchen, dining room and patient lounge. It also includes a fully furnished transitional apartment where patients learn and practice self-help skills before returning home.

The unit is the first KRMC service to move to HMC.

"I appreciate the efforts of Shawn Butler, director of rehabilitation services; Ryan Kennedy, chief operating officer; and all of the staff who worked so hard with the state to get our new acute rehab opened at the Hualapai Mountain Campus," said Brian Turney, CEO. "Moving the acute rehab department frees 20 beds at KRMC and allows us to open a new clinical observation unit."

The new observation unit will be for patients who come through the emergency department and may need further testing and observation to stabilize their conditions.
