Wayne Smith at the Garden Care Center located on Western Avenue was visited as part of the Kingman Elks Lodge No. 468 Adopt-A-Vet Program. He is 64 years old and was a member of the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. Wayne is a former Navy SEAL and was assigned to a river patrol boat on the Mekong River. He placed land mines behind enemy lines. On his last mission, his boat was attacked by three Vietnam gunships, and three of his crewmembers were killed; he was wounded in the knee. After rehab, he was honorably discharged with the rank of first sergeant. He then attended college, earned a degree in architecture and practiced for 22 years in Los Angeles. One of the projects he worked on was the home office building for the Holiday Inn Corporation. Shown from left are Smith and Garden Activities Director Mellissa Gonzales.
