Kingman Area School Retirees' Association: KASRA met Oct. 23 at the Elks Lodge for a luncheon, business meeting and program. President Roxie Marolf welcomed all, including some new and some prospective members. Our speaker was Roger Jacks, superintendent of Kingman Unified School District No. 20. He spoke to us about the district's plans for Lee Williams High School and various other topics, such as innovative programs designed to lower the school dropout rate. The online school and the E2020 program are examples. As always, financial constraints continue to dictate all aspects of public education, but KUSD No. 20 is constantly looking into ways to provide all district students with the best educational opportunities possible. The group voted unanimously for the following slate of officers for 2013-2015: president, Paul Tribbett; vice president, Marilyn Johnson; secretary, Theresa Grumbles; and treasurer, Sandie Womack. Congratulations to you all! Newly elected officers will be installed at our January meeting. Duane Nelson gave a brief report regarding our participation in the recent Andy Devine Days Parade, with thanks to Alice Zoeller for driving her convertible and to Jean Graham and Aida Zlomke for riding along representing our group of school retirees. Plans for our annual Christmas brunch/canned food drive were finalized. The party will take place at member Barb Fuller's home at 629 Country Club Drive, at 11 a.m. Dec. 18. We hope to see all our members there. Pictured are KASRA president Roxie Marolf introducing KUSD No. 20 Superintendent Roger Jacks.
