Kingman Area School Retirees' Association: KASRA met at the Elks Club on May 28 for lunch, fellowship and a program. Bill Ward, who was recently named chief professional officer of the local Boys and Girls Club, shared his vision for taking the club in a new direction. He and his board have partnered with organizations such as the Lions Club, United Way, Kingman Area Food Bank and KUSD to provide various activities for the children, vision screening and eye glasses if needed, and even nutritious meals for the weekend. It was very inspiring to learn of his plans to encourage responsibility and motivation with the preteen and teen population using technology, competition and teamwork. Anyone looking for an opportunity to do some volunteering would be most welcome at the club! President Paul Tribbett asked members to take turns around the room sharing a highlight or special moment in their careers. This exercise provided members the opportunity to get to know one another better and was enjoyed by all; it will be repeated at future meetings. Since the Elks Club is closing its lunch program, we will seek a different venue to hold our meetings. The location will be provided in the Kingman Daily Miner's organization news section on the Thursday before our July 23 meeting. Doris Power and Alice Zoeller also will be letting everyone know.
