The Northwest Arizona Healthcare Foundation awarded five scholarships to Mohave Community College students this semester, bringing the total number awarded for the 2013-14 academic year to 14. The nonprofit foundation began several years ago with a "generous" donation from the late Dr. John Lingenfelter, who wanted to offer financial assistance to students in the allied health field, according to President Susan Chan, who is also the director of Kingman Academy. "His wish was to help students who want to give back to the community through health services," said Chan. Chan said the foundation awards up to $20,000 each year to students. The awards can be renewed for up to four years if the student maintains a 3.0 grade-point average and attends on a full-time basis.
