Reader Letter: Declare war on Electoral College

Once again this country has been screwed by the Electoral College.

The majority of this country wanted Obama out of the White House and yet he is back.

One can only guess what damage he'll do to America in the next four years. He's certainly done his share already, and the majority of us had hoped to be rid of him by now.

But, the majority no longer rules - obviously.

There apparently are forces at work about which many of us know nothing.

It's no longer about leadership by a qualified person who has the best interests of his country at heart. It's about greed and power and political posturing.

Those who voted for him were brainwashed by his charisma and empty promises. I was a registered Democrat until he came along.

I am now Republican, even though I still think highly of the Democrats - except for their poor judgment in the matter of their choice of candidate.

Maybe it's time for another Civil War.

"was totally out of line and completly false"

I stand corrected. In reality it would probably take a free cell phone.....Which would actually cost taxpayers.

From what i have read, and you have not, I am willing to bet the parasite percentage in those voting districts is above 50%. Un-PC? You bet. Reality based? You bet.

Oh my god, Obama received ZERO votes in four precincts in Oklahoma!

http://quibblingpotatoes.blogspot.com/2012/11/obamas-zero-vote-precincts-in-oklahoma.html

Clearly, this is the result of voter fraud, as I can't see how the reliably blue state of Oklahoma could possibly have voted for Gov. Romney. That's not the Oklahoma I've come to know and love.

I mean, sure these are rural, extremely conservative all-white districts that have voted reliably Republican since the Nixon administration...but for Obama to get ZERO votes?!?! Voter suppression, clearly. Oklahomans knew their state was within striking distance, and thanks to a little handy voter fraud, Romney managed to win the state by a razor-thin 33-point margin.

But wait! There were also three Oklahoma precincts where Romney got zero votes! My god, when will it end, lord? WHEN WILL IT END?!?!?!

"sedition is a felony"

Seditious acts may be a felony....but speech? It depends, or may not be, depending on the case. Flag burning may be free speech, to some it may be "sedition". Just one of those things you do not get to decide for others.

History shows that there have been plenty of lap dogs willing to inform others, including friends and family members, for a pat on the head from thier masters. Hey, the old soviet union counted on loyal comrades doing that. Sound like you are just anxiously waiting for the opportunity. Good boy. Now go drop a dime on me. LoL.

From a definition of sedition: Sedition, pronounced si-ˈ di-shə n, a noun from the Latin sedition-, seditio, meaning literally separation is defined as, “incitement of resistance to or insurrection against lawful authority.”

Did you notice the word "lawful", Skeezix? What it means is once a goverment here begins to operate outside of the limits put on it by the Constitution, it is no longer "lawful". The jury is out on that one, but we'll see.

"can end you in a federal prison"

At some point they would need more prisons I suppose. Are you hoping for a job as a guard in the future, complete with a real snappy looking uniform and extra govt. freebies?

LOL

What is fascinating here is to see the right wanting to do away with the Electoral College because the election did not go their way. I remember back in 2000 when we saw the only convicted criminal in our nations history appointed to the white House (thanks to Florida’s rigged election) how some Democrats put up the idea that the Electoral College was past its usefulness and the Republicans screamed “sore losers” and “there is nothing wrong with the EC.”

Odd how that pendulum can swing, isn’t it?

On CBS news this morning Frank Lutz the fox and friends focus group guru, pollster was trying to spin right wing agenda that their idea on economics was majority view with his little show of a dozen or so hand picked folks he asked his questions to regarding taxes, economy etc.! No one buys this crap anymore, polls are about as important as my daily horoscope, fun to read and then forget! The GOP is doomed if they keep trying to spin their mythical majority agenda, where was their majority on election night?

I stand corrected and thank you for the heads-up regarding the Philadelphia districts that did not vote for Willard the Money Hider. However I feel this comment, “Smells like vote fraud to anyone with a nose. But I am sure that in the areas where he got that 100% you can buy a vote with a hit of crack anyway,” was totally out of line and completely false.

Now, I would ask how many districts around the country went 100% for Willard the Money Hider? You know they exist – in Utah and Texas and other backward areas.

Again. I stand corrected and thank you for the information. And do not forget, the majority of the American people saw though Willard the Money Hider and saved us from his scourge.

Hopefully this response will be posted.

@Stokes.....it's hard to tell the whole story about anything in 300 words, especially when Government is involved. Financial moves can be complex, and I admit to bringing sketchy details within the Miners' space limitations, hoping others' interest will be pricked into doing their own research. But the FDIC does, indeed, only have $11.18 billion to cover many trillions in deposits, which should scare everybody in time of severe economic strain. And Ben Bernanke really is about to start creating more trillions out of thin blue air, which really will sink the dollar to new lows. Whenever attempting to thoroughly address complex issues, some details will be subject to fluctuation, but the underlying principles are there. And sorry to be the skunk at the picnic, but everything I have alluded to which came out of developments in Kingman is true - maybe cleverly disguised to the gullible and naive, but absolutely true.

Hmmm. Obama won by 3% of the vote, and over 3 million votes. In other words, even if we didn't have an Electoral College Obama would have won handily. And without the Electoral College, that horrible president, bush (I won't capitalize his name because he does not deserve it) would never have been President.

Little facts that the right never remembers. Like global warming, and evolution. Bobby Jindahl is right when he says the Republican Party has to stop being the party of morons.

@Dori and others who want to eliminate the electoral college

If the electoral college was eliminated you'd be in a worse position than you are right now.

If we went by purely a popular vote the politicians would cater only to the voters in the most populist areas. The same inner cities and urban areas that brought Obama to victory last week. Except, under our current system they still have to consider less populated states because the electoral college system helps spread out the power of the vote so that rural areas have some standing.

Under a popular vote the people in AZ or the med west or northern plains would have no influence at all. Policies would be enacted that would only benefit the urban areas where the vast majority of the population is located.

You need to be careful what you wish for. There is currently a movement to eliminate the electoral. It is a progressive movement and it will be beneficial to the inner cities and urban areas which is the progressive power base.

If you don't like the way things are now, you won't like the system with a popular vote.

To tj denton:

I would choose not to be part of a civil war with my fellow Americans - it has nothing to do with being a liberal, or choosing safety over liberty. Everyone slams the Arabs, calling them barbaric and uncivilized because they choose to kill each other in civil wars - Arab against Arab. So we should be like them? Americans killing Americans? For what reason? Because you don't like who's president?

I supported the war in Afghanastan because the U.S. was attacked by Arabs from that country. But, we should have gone in there, retaliated, then left. We should not still be there, and we had absolutely no reason at all to go to war in Iraq. But, like I said, Republicans are, and always will be, warmongers. And the fact that every one of you Republican Obama-haters on here would agree to a civil war, proves that point.

We still have our liberties. We can still carry our guns. We are free to come and go as we pllease without the fear of being blown up. If we were invaded by another country, yes, I would choose to fight. But a civil war among ourselves is senseless, and just as barbaric and uncivilized as those people fighting civil wars in the Middle East. You, Dori, Rick O'Shea, Frank Lee Speaking - You would risk your children's lives to prove just how much you hate the government by starting a civil war?

Dori - In past elections when a Republican became President with the help of the Electoral College, I bet you didn't hollar at all. So every vote can count, I also think the popular vote should rule - the Electoral College is out-dated. And I really don't have to repeat what all these comments are telling you - but I will anyways, to rub it in..... Obama did win by the popular vote...I'm so relieved that your man lost - and so glad the best man won. Contrary to your opinion, the most qualified person who has the best interests of his country at heart, is again our leader...and those, along with you, who voted against him were brainwashed by Mitt's lies and his empty promises. And for you to suggest a Civil War, is despicable and so very immoral - and typical of a war-monger fanatic GOP. It'd be no surprise if the FBI and CIA investigate your terroristic-type threat. Like they said in the 60's - Love it, or leave it!

Dori,

Do me a favor and ask a veteran that has seen combat if that's something you would like to have in your neighborhood because you can't come to terms with something every Democrat did in 2000 when the electoral college.

Selfish and naive. Ironically I've heard more temperate attitudes about being on the losing side of an election from Nigerians and Ghanians.

The electoral college could use some tweaking, but has been taken advantage of by all parties in past. No time should the popular vote be over-ridden when 50%+.
Calls for leaving the union of states by Arizona is absurd. Without union, Arizona would fold even under a mild invasion by Mexico. Imagine facing the Mexican army just south of Kingman.
Am seeing many spoiled firstborn crying like babies because they lost. Remember, being Liberal is endorsed by the bible.

Prove it? Easily done. Google "Phil. PA district votes 100% for obama". Since you won't take the facts from non-leftist websites, just scroll down the first page of resdults and click on th CBS news one near the bottom of the page. want a direct link? Tough. I won't do all the work for you.

By the way, in Philadelphia 59 voting districts had zero votes for Romney. In Cleveland Ohio it was 9 districts. Smells like vote fraud to anyone with a nose. But I am sure that in the areas where he got that 100% you can buy a vote with a hit of crack anyway.

I was really surprised to see CBS report this. Usually the ovomit loving media would not do something like that.

"my research does not show any such thing"

What.......no story at media matters about it? LOL. Stop pretending you actually did research on this. I found the CBS story in minutes.

LOL

Anson's Nephew:

I tried to respond to Mr. Speaking's comment earlier, but my post was too long, here's the condensed version:

The Philadelphia Inquirer actually looked into it here: http://articles.philly.com/2012-11-13/news/35069785_1_romney-supporters-mitt-romney-voter-id-law

They found that there were 59 divisions in Philadelphia (of more than 1,600) where Romney didn't get a single vote. However, they also found that, within those divisions, there were nearly no registered Republicans, either, and the neighborhoods themselves were nearly exclusively black.

Of the the handful of registered Republicans living in those districts, the Inquirer attempted to find them. Some no longer lived there others didn't answer their doors, and those the Inquirer could find either questioned the veracity of their party registration or confirmed that they were indeed Republicans, but had never actually voted for one.

Of course, I imagine you could go to places like King County, Tex., where Obama got exactly 9 votes total, and find any number of polling places where nary a single vote was cast for the president, either. But for some strange reason, no one seems to be implying voter fraud happened in those places.

@pl .....
"January 1st 2013 when the FDIC no longer guarantees bank deposits"

Still at it I see. Maybe you should try telling the whole story?

Here's the real info....
"From December 31, 2010 through December 31, 2012, all noninterest-bearing transaction accounts are fully insured, regardless of the account balance and the ownership capacity of the funds. This coverage is available to all depositors, including consumers, businesses, and government entities. The unlimited coverage is separate from, and in addition to, the insurance coverage provided for a depositor's other accounts held at an FDIC-insured bank."

It was a temporary measure from the beginning.
