Local GOP groups may band together to face Obama fears

Suzanne Adams-Ockrassa
Miner Staff Reporter

There was much hand-wringing about the federal election at the Kingman Republican Men's Club Monday morning, but local Republicans are standing firm on their principles and may consolidate their efforts to reach independent voters.

"I don't know if we have lost the country, but really I think we have two choices. We can flee or we can fight," said club president Laurence Schiff. "Costa Rica was looking really, really good for a time.

"But this the United States of America. It is still the greatest place in the world to live. But, I'm not really hopeful about the future."

He suggested getting the leaders of all three local Republican groups - the Men's Club, the Women's Club and the Republican Forum - together to talk about possibly consolidating into one group.

A couple of people who are also members of the Women's Club and the Forum said they would bring it to the attention of the leadership of those clubs.

"We have to try and recapture the people who didn't vote for us. We have to do it without becoming the Democratic Party," Schiff said. "We have to do it without becoming the party of, 'We give you free stuff. Just not as much.' "

He also suggested encouraging more women, independents and students to come to the club's meetings and the local Republican Headquarters. Schiff also recommended working with Mohave Community College to create a young Republicans club.

Others suggested moving the Republican Men's Club meetings to the evenings and cutting the price for lunch or dinner so more people could attend.

Schiff pointed out that many older residents are not comfortable driving in the dark and that the Elks Lodge, the club's current meeting location, sets the price for meals.

Schiff illustrated his concerns by citing rumors that Democrats drove casino workers to the polls in Nevada and scared them into voting for President Barack Obama.

He also hinted that it may be hard to get Obama out of office in 2016, citing rumors that the president plans to rewrite the Constitution to allow himself a third term.

This is not something Obama could do on his own. The 22nd Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, added in 1951, prevents people from serving more than two terms as president.

In order to remove the amendment, Obama would have to get two-thirds of the both houses of Congress or two-thirds of the states to agree to amend the Constitution, and then the new amendment would have to be approved by three-fourths of the states.

Schiff also complained that the "mainstream media" has created an image in people's minds that the Republican Party is the party of "Big Business," Schiff said.

This isn't true, he said, and claimed that there are more black and Hispanic people serving in the Republican Party then there are in Democratic Party.

He also said the wealthiest members of Congress are mostly Democrats.

According to the Pew Research Center, Obama won 93 percent of the black vote and 71 percent of the Hispanic vote this year.

Roll Call released its figures for the 50 richest members of Congress in 2011 on Friday. According to the Capitol Hill newspaper, the 50 richest members of Congress in 2011 included 32 Republicans and 18 Democrats.

The top two richest members of Congress at that time were Rep. Michael McCaul of Texas and Rep. Darrell Issa from California, both Republicans.

“There was fraud everywhere in this election, thousands and thousands of fraudulent votes, all proven and in every way possible.”

Once again a totally baseless statement. Provide links or … well, you know.

“The Ambassador asked ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY TIMES FOR HELP during the prior year. Instead, Bozo the Clowns group TOOK part of the security they had away.”

There is no record of “120 requests” and NEVER forget it was the Republicans who blocked and refused additional funds for Embassy and Consulate security upgrades. Put the blame where it belongs, Linda!

“You don't deserve America. Perhaps it will be good for it all to be taken away from you by Bozo the Clown. Nothing else makes you see the light.”

And again I will ask what does a Kiddie Show Host have to do with any of this?

And if you hate our nation so much why don’t you leave?

OK, so "Linda"

I like your comments, because I see two things here:

A) you apparently didn't see this hilarious pair of rocket scientists earlier in the month:

Nor the PA voting machines that would only let votes count for Romney, not Obama.

B) What I see is you saying "modernizing the Republican party is hard, so we might as well not try." Well, that IS a 'conservative' standpoint, which is why that idea went over poorly in 2008. But really Linda, what I would like to see from the GOP is to simply not be the obstructionist whiny baby poor losers party. It's costing them (and you and I) at the large scale.

I would vote for a Republican if a few VERY basic things were taken into consideration, namely social stances and the apparent inability to do what they say. I vote for qualified Republicans and Green party candidates at the local level pretty often, but Water Reclamation District Commissioners are not deciding policy in the same way Senators and Congresspeople are.

Article comment by: Mr. Ishnivik, for various reasons and so sorry to say.....

@Comrade Tomchin....."ill-gotten wealth"? Obama's not going to tax the multi-billion-dollar drug cartels whose funds underwrite Wall Streeet. No, he's going to impose a 55% inheritance tax upon - for example - farm families which normally pass land and facilities from one generation to another (and do keep in mind that these families, generally speaking, produce a more nutritious and safer product than agribusiness). Of course, in the case of farmers, a six-figure estate often only translates into modest annual income. A single 55% tax swipe at that estate will render the recipient utterly destitute. And of course, fair and historical commentary here needn't be limited to farm scenarios. A longer posting here would further shred your unwise use of the term "ill-gotten wealth". (FYI, the Russian people, whom Bolsheviks claimed to represent, generally disapproved of them. "Bolshevik" means "majority", though they were a very small minority. They should have called themselves "Ishniviks". That means "minority").

Mark, what about requiring those interested running for an office register their programs with the attorney general. The candidate would be voted in by what he is proposing. Every year the office holder's performance would be evaluated and reported to the public. If less than 50% performance an election would be held.

Chuckles and anonymous:

You live in a world of unreality. There was fraud everywhere in this election, thousands and thousands of fraudulent votes, all proven and in every way possible.

And aa, for you to consider Benghazi as a nothing we tried to make into a scandal is scandalous itself.

Four brave Americans died. Two fought valiantly for hours and hours on rooftops, trying to hold off the islamist terrorists. Yes, while o cannot say it, I can. Muslim terrorists - split offs from the Muslim Brotherhood o helped put into power. That isn't a scandal to you?

Perhaps if one of the four was a family member of yours? One ex Seal had a small baby he will never get to raise but his wife will have to alone. He waited for hours expecting a C-130 to bring in help that never arrived. He revealed his position to let it know where the terrorists were shooting from. He died. No C-130 came.

The Ambassador asked ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY TIMES FOR HELP during the prior year. Instead, Bozo the Clowns group TOOK part of the security they had away.

THAT IS A SCANDAL!! You people who think nothing of taking human lives thru abortion have also cheapened the lives of those who are already here. Life has no value anymore. The new norm is cheapened life, high unemployment, no jobs, everyone on welfare. Everything we were founded on has been cheapened to the max. Obama's world.

You don't deserve America. Perhaps it will be good for it all to be taken away from you by Bozo the Clown. Nothing else makes you see the light.

One can see why the republican party is rumored to be going the way of the whig party into extinction like the old dinosaurs! They truly believe holding congress, holding 30 state governorships is eternal and will last forever, the one thing in life that is continious and that is the sun does not shine on one dogs tail all the time, it has to shine on some other dogs tail some of the time! The GOP won congress in 2010 with a lie and a tea party movement which is teapublicans them old angry republicans disqusied as tea partiers, GOP lost some congressional seats this cycle, some senate seats, now will this continue, who knows I do not have any crystal ball nor does anyone else! As to states being red or blue do your history lesson, these things change like the weather!

In the BUBBLE. Just read through the defenders of mistruth, injustice, and the unAmerican way and you can understand the term "in the Bubble".

Mitt sticks his foot in his mouth again by denying he lost due to his stance on issues and the out-of-touch Tea Bag dominated party. Instead he accuses the winners of buying the election (when his side outspent the Dems and their super pacs).

So the wackadoodles here spit out the same "gift" line - they either don't have the intelligence to really understand their loss or they just don't want to face reality. Which do you think?

Not sure why Republicans in Mohave County are so worried about Obama's re-election. Consider the facts: The GOP still controls a majority of governorships and state legislatures (with supermajorities in many), and the GOP's 2010 redistricting efforts have made the House of Representatives beyond Democratic reach for at least another cycle, if not longer. In fact, more votes were cast for Democratic House candidates this election than for GOP candidates, but they STILL failed to win a majority of House seats thanks to the dutiful gerrymandering efforts made by red state legislatures in 2010. (Not to say Dems don't do it too, the GOP just happened to luck out this cycle.)

And without a 60-seat supermajority in the Senate and a majority in the House, Congressional Democrats will once again be subject to another two years minimum of Republican obstructionism - anonymous holds on bills, anonymous holds on judicial nominees, and an unprecedented number of cloture votes that fail to reach the 60 votes needed to progress to a straight up-or-down vote.

So, in reality, while it may be unfortunate for Republicans that Obama got another four years in office, it's not like he has the political capital (or the Congressional votes) to pass another Affordable Care Act. Heck, at this point he'd be lucky if he could get enough GOP votes to pass a bill affirming that the sky is blue.

Karma is a funny thing, GOP tried fraud in the form of Jim Crow Sr., thought them poor and middle class would not get them IDs to vote, tried to create a scandal where none exists Benghazi and it fizzled as did their election fraud attempt, now middle east cease fire might end their dreams of accusing Obama and democrats of causing middle east melt down! I guess karma is good when your good and bad when your not!

I wonder if the IRS accessed that list of 750,000 plus dummies who signed them foolish on line petitions? I mean how can one be dummer than a rock than this, giving government your name, saying I am a sedtionist, traitor, very likely a tax cheat, criminal with illegal weapons, or who knows what other not legal activity in their background since anyone who is that hateful of America is no patriot! I can just imagine the local FBI agents on some down time doing a bit of checking on these sedtionists and seeing if they need a vacation to a federal prison!

I see some in the GOP mentiion what Rush Oxycontin Limbaugh did, he to mentioned if Obama health care became law he was moving his fortune to Costa Rica, do wish they would hurry up and move, take their personal belongings, money and do not let the door hit them where the good lord split them! Now to the secessionists, your taking not one acre of land, you can leave go anywhere you like, all traitors get is a quick trail and probably a long wait for execution on death row! The good thing is these 750,000 secessionists signed their silly petitions guess they were to dumb to know they merely identified them to government who was a traitor, whose advocating sedtion and who needs to be watched closely! Some folks are dumber than rocks!

Doing Research:

You left out the two main factors. Election fraud and press in the pocket of the liberals. Without truth, people believe anything. They got months and months and months of lies about Mitt Romney and believed the lies because they watch left wing news which blankets the airwaves. A few right wingers such as Rush, Beck, Fox News are ridiculed and the left tried desperately to get them off the air completely so there would be NOONE speaking for the right.

Hard to believe because that is what they do in Communist countries. You didn't figure that out yet? Forget your great marketing program. We need a great conservative like Reagan to stand up and the truth to get out. When truth finally permeates brains, the light bulb goes on and people see the truth and leave the terrible godlessness of the new Democrat party. .

Throw in Bozo the Clown and all his ads including in Mexico for freebies, directions on how to get them and you have a win. You didn't get it how he has pushed freebies for four years now? That was to HOOK people on welfare so they would HAVE to vote Democrat or lose their goodies.

Forget rugged individualism the right has always believed in .

Is your "conservatism" precluded by your ignorance? A President cannot change an amendment. It takes quite a lengthy process which involves the entire country.

Sure is obvious:

Your story is so full of holes, it could be cheese.

You live in a world of lies. The Grand Old Party of Lincoln that FREED THE SLAVES has everything in it's platform FOR freedom as opposed to the Dem platform of death and destruction. Our platform is opposed to killing the unborn - so far 60 million have perished.

The Dems war on women is a lie you have believed. Noone has taken your contraceptives and noone is trying to get rid of something already a law. They would do that HOW? What we are trying to do is, GET PEOPLE JOBS!!

Try throwing out some truth once in awhile. It isn't a minority problem. It is that if a minority is a conservative, you rip them to shreds. Condi Rice (portrayed as a monkey), Herman Cain, ripped apart by the press, Marco Rubio, Ted Cruz, Mia Love, AG Conzalez under Bush, Thomas Sowell, conservative writer - all portrayed as loons on here by libs. Dark skinned and conservative? LOOK OUT. They are coming for you.

You are probably unaware blacks adored Lincoln and were Republicans for years until libs entered and enticed them away with....goodies! Not much has changed with the Santa Clauses on the left, has it? The only way you get black and hispanic votes is promising freebies. We promise jobs and standing on your own two feet. No, we will NEVER be like your party. thank God.

Incidentally, Republicans fought back Dems to push thru Civil Rights. Old, white, finished? Hardly. Whites laid down their lives for our freedom, then again for blacks' freedoms. Whites wrote the greatest Constitution in the world. White wrote the Gettysburg Address. Fools eventually fall. Get your soft pillows ready.

These people have been sold a bill of goods by the now practically defunct GOP. Their "concerns" are a result of hysteria as they are being told out and out lies and/or half truths.
Over half of the voters in the USA voted to keep Obama in office as opposed to Romney. Perhaps Romney's lack of a "plan" and constant flip flopping was his undoing much more than "Democrats driving casino workers to vote" and threatening them. That is the most ridiculous claim yet from this bunch of whiners. Get over your heartbreak of losing the election and work toward helping rebuild the country instead of standing in the way of progress. MOVE ON!

This is how the GOP can win in 2016

IM Ind. made a point I'd like to highlight...

I never thought I'd say this: Newt Gingrich is the one person from the GOP that knows what the heck they're talking about post-election.

Does the GOP represent businesspeople? Then treat your candidates like a product you're selling.

If you have a store and a customer says, "you have lots of OK options, but nothing is really right for me," you don't tell the customer they're an idiot. You get them the right product or you watch them walk across the street to another store.

Simple customer service and elementary marketing.

You need to A) evaluate your market, B) look for the gap - Catholic Latinos, religious blacks, women, etc. C) begin NOW re-messaging and re-branding as a group that has smart answers, and D) start proposing high-profile bills that make tough decisions

The embarrassing part is that 2010 state legislature wins for Republicans gave them a HUGE gerrymandering advantage. That's why the House will stay in Rep. hands for the next decade, but it means that Romney so poorly moved the GOP base that he lost this for himself.

Blame the POTUS all you want, The GOP lost this for the GOP. Be adults and figure out why and change, learn and adapt or shut up.

GOP, Republican, Tea Party/Teapublican by what ever name they like to go by these days, one thing that remains the same they seem terrified of change, of reality that nationaly they only make up 32% of the electorate! Now if they wish that 32% to grow smaller guess all they have to do is double down on their past activities, the funniest one to me is the 750,000 some odd secessionists in America, thank god these looney tunes are a real minority!

When comments become more interesting then the article for which they were intended. One must ask hes/her self which makes better sense, the article or the comments. In this instance, some commentators are sounding as tho they should be heading up the GOP. Perhaps the GOP should start looking for new name for itself. Wish I could help, but at the moment I promised not to get caught up in their rush to jump off any cliff available.

What we will witness in the next year or two is the implosion of the GOP.

They have finally been hit in the head hard enough to wake up.

Now they realise. 1) Women do have intelligence and can handle personal affairs WITHOUT crusty old men coaching them. An Abortion is between a woman, her religious beliefs, and her doctor. NOBODY ELSE.

2) Legal Minorities and Blacks OUT NUMBER white people in America.

3) Americans DONT trust their views on SSD and Medicare. ( we NEVER want SSD to be privatised or put on stock market)

4) They finally understand that their party has become a laughing stock thats lost nearly all credibility it may have had in the past.

Newsweek said it best. GOP. OLD, WHITE, FINISHED.

Instead of making excuses for losing an election everyone knew you would lose. I suggest the GOP change everything they claim to believe in.

Basically look around and see how ridiculous the party really has become. Sad actually.
