Kingman letters: An insult to teachers

Once again, Lori Gabriel-Dane speaks out for the liberals! What an insult to teachers! "To pit a scared, trembling teacher ...." Come on Lori, give your teachers some credit! I'm sure you will find many teachers who are "shooters" (what a ridiculous title) and are not only willing but fully capable of carrying a firearm.

But going further, did you know an AR-15 shoots a bullet the size of a .22 and only at semi-auto cyclic speed? I can shoot my revolver just as fast. How about the "high-capacity magazine"? If you carry three, 10-round magazines, that gives you the same amount as one, 30-round magazine. What are you going to do while the bad guys take one second to reload?

Gun owners are not fanatical about their guns, they are fanatical about keeping their rights - to own guns, to carry them, and to protect their communities. Remember, the only thing that can stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun!

Partly true. He also decided it was needed back when he was governor of California and the black panthers decided to exercise their 2nd Amendment rights.

You see Teej, I was just pointing out that you had posted blatant misinformation. Something which, according to you, is absolutely wrong to do.

Thats nice chuckles, use three examples of one assailant crimes? How bout a while back here in arizona (phoenix) where 4 people tried to rob a man in his home, all armed with guns, what did the man do? He opened up his horrible assault rifle and protected himself. So chuckles, i really dont care if you have a bb gun or not, i have my assault rifles and no ones taking em, you be less protected if you want, not my problem

"someone asked why the paper allows such disrespectful names for the president--specifically "ovomit". '

Why? How about because he is not a king or emporer.....yet. You obomabots may think he is deserves to be worshipped, I do not.

And funny, I don't think I have ever seen you complaining here about the person who hardly lets a week go by without referring to a past president as "The Criminal". I guess it is only disrespectful if directed at a leftist politician you fond of, right?

If the editor wants to delete it because they don't like it, fine, it is there website. But hopefully it will never be done because a obama worshipper got their silk panties in a bunch and demanded it.

LOL

In a recent "Ask the Editor" question someone asked why the paper allows such disrespectful names for the president--specifically "ovomit". The editor's response was something to the effect that he wasn't aware of that particular foul remark.
At the time, I thought you meant that the term had slipped through without your notice and would be edited out in the future. Since "ovomit" was used in this thread on January 10 by Frank Lee Speaking, I can only conclude that was not your intent. I'm disappointed in your choice.

TJ Denton....my only issue with your comment is your obsession with making it a liberal issue, many democrats are pro-2nd amendment and are not advocating what is being advocated, put up your partisan hat for one moment this issue is not republican/conservative or democrat/liberal but pro-2nd amendment versus anti-gun crowds which if one watches the media many of the right now are seeming to wish to be on which ever side they think will win the day, my guess is from history this will fade and fizzle it always has! Folks will give fancy speeches, submit various laws and little will change in the end!

I live in the real world, I watch and read the news. These recent shootings, Aurora, Newtown and today....they all had one assailant.

"in public places, even political events"

What political events? No arrests that I know of. Outside of a political event is not at one. Get back to me when laws are broken. LoL

"that no one needs a 100-round cartridge."

Fortunatly, that is not your call. But I think using one would be fun.

But hey check with the Dept of "Needs" on that. I think they are right next door to the Dept of "Feelings".

So in your mind anyone who would want to buy a firearm at a public auction is a crazy nut, fanatic, or a member of a terrorist group. Ever think they could just be someone looking for a bargain?

And you still refuse to tell us what an "assault weapon" is. And still waiting for you to tell us if we will be allowed to have semi-automatic weapons.

Why can't you answer those Lori?

LOL

You wrote, "You implied that those people carrying weapons at or near a rally for your beloved ovomit were doing something wrong. "

I did no such thing. I never said it was illegal. My original post was that gun-owners have more freedom to "open carry" in more public places, even political events, under Obama than under any other president.

Only people with common sense realize that no one needs a 100-round cartridge. Too bad if you're too lazy, or it's an inconvenience to have to change clips after shooting off 10 rounds. If some nut is shooting and killing people, there is a chance that the shooter can be stopped during those few seconds when he/she has to reload, but not with a 100-round clip. And fine, most people who have these 100-round magazines may be perfectly fine and have no intention of ever doing harm to anyone. But it's the crazies that might have them or get hold of them somehow and WILL do harm to others.

The NRA wants all the guns that were turned in to the Buy Back program sold to the highest bidders - not destroyed as the police want to do - and they will sue the state to keep those guns from being destroyed. So, any terrorist group, fanatical militia groups, or any crazy nut who has some money can buy them? Smart. Really smart! NOT!

You implied that those people carrying weapons at or near a rally for your beloved ovomit were doing something wrong. So lets have the names of those who were arrested, Lori. Of course, none were because no laws were broken. If that frightens you.....tough. Don't worry Lori, ovomit is perfectly safe as long as he has his insrance policy, Joe Biden, as VP.LoL. Get busy changing the law on open carry, it should keep you busy for years. LOL

But hey, I want to thank you for your gun grabber rants. You and other leftists are doing great things by driving up gun and ammo sales. And that's always a good thing. You leftist never consider the unintended consequences of your collective screeching. But at least you get to make your "feelings" known.

Guns don't assault people ("assault rife"). People assault people. Assault is an action resulting from a behavior and entirely human, it is not a weapon.

This issue is so complicated. The focus needs to be on accesibility of care for mental health issues and removing the stigma so family members don't ignore signs and hide/sweep issues under the rug, enhanced oversight of gun sales and registration, firearm and incident education/preparedness and (unfortunately) increased security measures. The few always screw it for the rest of us don't they? It is certainly a multifaceted problem.

One thing is for sure - legislation geared toward gun and ammo bans will not work. Imagine if they went so far as to declare all new gun and ammo sales in the US illegal..literally completely stop retail sales. Even something so extreme would have little to no effect. America is well armed and well supplied. There are enough weapons and ammo in circulation/stockpiled to keep these insane sickos pulling stunts like this for the next 100 years.

We need to think way deeper than banning the weapons and the ammo. You can't fix a severed artery with a bandaid.

@ Lori

First off there is plenty of reasons someone may want a 100 round magazine that doesn't involve killing. The main one being that some of us like to go out and do a day of shooting, and it's simply easier to have a 100 round drum instead of having to reload several magazines, and shooting is very "fun" when done properly.

What cracks me up is your question about murder is exactly where the real problem is, not guns. It's a moral issue not a gun issue. I could have a friggin' garage full of tanks (and I believe this is true for 99.9% of all gun owners) and I would never use them to kill innocent people. The problem is MURDER....not guns!!!!

Pretty soon your precious non-Republican polititions will want to take your 1st ammendment right as well....What about freedom of religion???? How can you not see that this is a freedom grab???

To Frank Lee Speaking:

You are absolutely right, I do not know much about guns. We have a small-caliber hand gun, and a rifle that was bought in 1940 by my husband's father, and that is all the protection I feel that we need. I don't care to know all there is to know about guns, and I'm not ashamed to say that. What I do know, is that the NRA is promoting 100-round magazines in an ad that says, "For more fun..." And this is so wrong. Why does anyone need that much fire power? So the next mass shooting can kill 100 people, instead of only 26? Isn't that just great! Yep, that would be "more fun," wouldn't it?

Whether you like it or not, changes have to be made. Background checks for all gun sales - both gun shows and privately sold guns, mental health issues, extended magazines, any weapon capable of holding extended clips, and a lot of other problems need to be addressed and changes need to be made to help curb the violence. Why are Americans so violent, anyway? We live in the greatest nation in the world, yet the crime and murder rate in America proves that the American people are miserable, hateful, and violent. Why?

Fortunately, for you and other gun-lovers, it is not up to me to decide if any guns should be banned. My only voice regarding this issue is who I vote for. And I will vote for anyone whose ideals come close to the way I feel about things - even if it was a Republican. But, since the Republican party has been taken over by the right-wing fringe religious goons and the NRA, I doubt I would be voting for a Republican any time soon.

When it comes to our rights....you are absolutely correct. I don't care about your "feelings, fears, or concerns".

Tell you what Lori.....get in touch with the U,S. Dept. of "Feelings" and share your fears and concerns with them. Let us all know ewhat they tell you. LOL

And no Lori, you have never told anyone what an assualt weapon is. Keep in mind, you cannot ban them until you say precisely what you are going to ban. And you are not knowlegable enough about guns to be able to do so.

Do you want to see all semi-automatic weapons banned as "assault weaspons"? Do pistols that are not revolvers need to be banned in your opinion.

"I expect all Tea/Repubs and gun fanatics to use the lies Fox News tells as their gospel truth. lol"

You must have missed the part where I said I had many links to choose from. Oh well, here you go:

http://www.ibtimes.com/illinois-cops-boycott-dennys-after-being-asked-leave-guns-outside-992898

And:

http://www.businessinsider.com/police-boycott-dennys-in-gun-controversy-2013-1

And:

http://www.policemag.com/channel/weapons/news/2013/01/03/ill-officers-asked-to-leave-denny-s.aspx

So Lori, three more links, same story, and none of the three are FOX news. Are they Fox News lies as well, Lori? LoL.

"And I never said that carrying a weapon to a political event was illegal. You didn't believe what I said, so I proved it. Nothing more, nothing less."

You first implied that "gun fanatics" were open carrying inside political events. I pointed out that you were making it up and they were not, as well as that they were breaking no laws. Notice that no one was arrested? In your next comment you backtracked, admitting that no one was open carrying at a ovomit rally (outside of a rally does not count Lori).

So you proved nothing.

Hey.....Are you ready to tell us all what an "assault weapon" is yet, Lori?

LOL

I think your right. And I think that not every teacher will want to be armed, and should not be forced, but the ones who do should be required to take a course, and allowed to carry on school grounds. The idea here is to deter someone from trying something like that with the knowledge that the teachers are armed.

@ No Armed Teacher or School Official

Your last statement is ignorant at best."...rapid firing weapons of mass destruction"????
Give me a break! LOL!!!
Plus, what does gun ownership have to do with the time it takes for the police to respond?

V Stokes I stand corrected, I punched in Wild Bill Hickok into google, got the wikipedia pulled up and did not read it past the first paragraph, plead guilty to not being computer savvy, cannot remember the title or date of book which I read the story of, been over 50 years ago that I read it, long before this internet fad, but the link below is a bit more detailed on the shoot out, where his opponet missed him, he did not miss, but that being said one can if one has read much western history find many stories of gun fights where one nervous one died hitting the floor in a bar room while one shot straight and true and shot second!

Do you think that ten years ago, armed with an AR 15 or any other kind of gun in their possession, anyone would be allowed to stand anywhere near one of Bush's events, even outside the event? All I'm saying is that gun owners have more freedom to "open carry" their guns in more public places under Obama than under any other president. Until someone comes to your door to confiscate your weapons, you have nothing to whine about.

With all the mass shootings lately, is it any wonder that people would be scared if they saw someone walk into Walmart or some other public place with an AR 15 or some other gun, even though it's legal? I think you and others do this just to make people think you're a big tough guy and they SHOULD be scared of you. In other words, you're bullies - you have no empathy for other people's feelings, fears, or concerns.

You can try to ridicule me to your heart's content, I really don't care. What I do care about is gun safety. And if that infringes on your right to walk around town armed with an AR15, too bad. Just as you are entitled to your beliefs, I'm entitled to mine, as well.
