Kingman letters: An insult to teachers

Once again, Lori Gabriel-Dane speaks out for the liberals! What an insult to teachers! "To pit a scared, trembling teacher ...." Come on Lori, give your teachers some credit! I'm sure you will find many teachers who are "shooters" (what a ridiculous title) and are not only willing but fully capable of carrying a firearm.

But going further, did you know an AR-15 shoots a bullet the size of a .22 and only at semi-auto cyclic speed? I can shoot my revolver just as fast. How about the "high-capacity magazine"? If you carry three, 10-round magazines, that gives you the same amount as one, 30-round magazine. What are you going to do while the bad guys take one second to reload?

Gun owners are not fanatical about their guns, they are fanatical about keeping their rights - to own guns, to carry them, and to protect their communities. Remember, the only thing that can stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun!

Why would that annoy me? I expect all Tea/Repubs and gun fanatics to use the lies Fox News tells as their gospel truth. lol

And I never said that carrying a weapon to a political event was illegal. You didn't believe what I said, so I proved it. Nothing more, nothing less.

"Open carry advocates create a potentially very dangerous situation."

Then you better get busy and work to get the law changed Lori, because they are not breaking any law(s). And if a cop shows up and arrests the person because they got a "man with a gun call".....The city better be prepared to be sued.

Fun story. A Denny's manager in IL asked some cops to leave because some patrons were uncomfortable with seeing their guns. Some people get their silk panties in a bunch very easily it seems. LoL.

I spent some time on line looking and could not find that "old historical fact" anywhere at all. Plenty of records of gun fights, complete with names, but not that one. Maybe you will have better luck finding it than i did.. But allow me to help by telling you that his last name was Hickok, which I guess you just did not know.

"outside the Phoenix Convention Center as President Obama spoke."

And:

"outside President Obama's speech to veterans on Monday, but no laws were broken."

First you claim that people can carry guns at political events, and the next day you actually cut and paste info that states it did not happen. LoL

"Americans have been shocked recently to see images of gun-toting individuals openly carrying firearms in public places like coffee shops, restaurants, and public parks, and at political rallies."

And just as many are not "shocked". Get back to me when any laws are being broken Lori. The fact that you or any other leftists are "shocked" or frightened means that you have a problem, not the person with a gun who is not breaking any laws.

The thing I love about the open carry movement is that police departments are being sued for harrassing people who open carry. As cops like to say "Ignorance of the law is no excuse". Some are finding out that it actually works both ways. The more police departments that get sued, and lose, the better.

"Hand guns, rifles used for hunting, and shotguns will never be banned."

What type of "hand guns" Lori? Will you allow us serfs to keep our semi-auto type pistols.......or will those be banned as "assault weapons"? "Rifles used for hunting"? Explain to us all, exactly, what hunting has to do with the 2nd Amendment, Lori. And I'm willing to bet you're idea of shotguns we serfs will be allowed to have are what's called "Fudd guns" and not pump action shotguns, right Lori?

Face it Lori. you're just a gun grabber trying to hide what you are. Like most every other grabber, you are deliberatly very vague on details.

Why is that Lori?

To Frank Lee Speaking:

"Gun-rights advocates showed up during presidential town hall meeting carrying firearms. One of them sported a military style AR-15 rifle amid protesters outside the Phoenix Convention Center as President Obama spoke. These gun toting demonstrators insisted they are simply exercising their constitutional right to bear arms while protesting the event. Arizona is an “open carry” state which means that if you legally own a firearm you can openly carry it in public. In light of this law Phoenix police monitored the owner of the assault weapon and others. " www.examiner.com/artical/gun-lovers-become-bullies-at-political-rallies

A man is shown legally carrying a rifle at a protest against President Obama on Monday in Phoenix, Arizona. A man toting an assault rifle was among a dozen protesters carrying weapons while demonstrating outside President Obama's speech to veterans on Monday, but no laws were broken. It was the second instance in recent days in which weapons have been seen near presidential events. http://articles.cnn.com/2009-08-17/politics/obama.protest.rifle_1_protesters-weapons-assault-rifle?_s=PM:POLITICS

"Americans have been shocked recently to see images of gun-toting individuals openly carrying firearms in public places like coffee shops, restaurants, and public parks, and at political rallies. Many of these individuals identify themselves as part of a growing “open carry movement,” a collection of grassroots groups nationwide whose confrontational style has drawn criticism even from the mainstream gun lobby. Open carry advocates create a potentially very dangerous situation. When police are called to a “man with a gun” call, they have no idea if these people are simply “exercising their rights,” or an armed threat." http://smartgunlaws.org/open-carrying-policy-summary/

I doubt a inexperienced under fire teacher with all the training in the world can be known how when that critical moment occurs will they panic, or be calm!

Ok...so you meant length?

Of course I know that different materials will affect the length and weight of a projectile. My point was that you weren't clear in what you meant by "3 times bigger". Most people would assume diameter/width...as in..."I need to run a bigger pipe" or "I think the road should be bigger".

Always need to consider that most people have no clue about firearms.

@ LGD "ANYONE facing down a crazed armed gunman SHOULD be scared. ...".
YES, ANYONE SHOULD BE SCARED FACING DOWN A CRAZED GUNMAN --- EVEN POLICE OFFICERS AND SOLDERS. FEAR OF DEATH IS NOT OWNED BY THE UN-TRAINED GENERAL POPLACE. YES, A BETTER OUTCOME COULD LIKELY COME FROM USING POLICE --- BUT WOULD YOU RATHER OUR CHILDREN DIE BECAUSE THE POLICE ARE NOT AVAILABLE, OR THAT A VOLUNTEER TRAINED SCHOOL EMPLOYEE BE ON THE SCENE TO MAKE THE EFFORT TO EFFECTIVELY PROTECT YOUR CHILD?

"As for armed teachers, what if the crazed person shooting a gun is a 14-15 year old (or younger) student at that school that the teacher knows...".

KINGMAN IS NOT THAT BIG A TOWN. POLICE OFFICERS HERE OFTEN KNOW MANY OF THE KIDS. THEY ALSO MAY BE FACED WITH THE SAME SITUATION OF WHETHER TO TAKE DOWN A 14-15 YEAR OLD THEY PERSONALLY KNOW WHO ENDANGERS THE LIVES OF OTHERS. ANY MATURE ADULT KNOWS YOU DO WHAT MUST BE DONE TO PROTECT THE LIVES OF AS MANY AS YOU CAN.

"Also, after five years of being released from prison, convicted felons regain the right to own any type of gun...."

WILL HAVE TO CHECK YOUR ACCURACY ON THE 5 YEARS BIT, BUT WHY TAKE AWAY GUNS FROM FELONS WHO HAVE COMMITTED WHITE COLLAR CRIMES THAT HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH VIOLENT ACTS AGAINST OTHERS?

"Why do gun owners insist on believing that ALL liberals want to ban ALL guns? We don't. But common sense warrants the banning of certain assault weapons, along with high-capacity magazines....:

PERHAPS GUN OWNERS WANT TO KEEP THE ASSAULT WEAPONS AND HIGH-CAPACITY MAGAZINES TO PROTECT THEMSELVES AGAINST THE STAMPEDING WILD HERD OF CRAZED MORONS WHO ARE TRYING TO STOMP ON OUR RIGHTS TO BEAR ARMS UNDER OUR CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS?

COULD IT BE THAT OBAMA ALREADY RECENTLY SAID HE WANTS TO BAN SOME OF THEM, AND WHERE DOES IT END?

"But it wouldn't hurt for you to give up your assault weapons and your extended magazines in exchange for you keeping all your other guns, now would it? Just like with taxes, let's even the playing field with our guns...'

YES, IT WOULD HURT TO GIVE UP OUR ASSAULT WEAPONS AND EXTENDED MAGAZINES, THEN WE COULD NOT PROTECT YOU ANY MORE THAN WE COULD PROTECT OURSELVES DURING HOME INVASIONS ON EITHER A PERSONAL LEVEL OR A NATIONAL LEVEL. THE PLAYING FIELD IS DEFINITELY NOT LEVEL IN SUCH A SCENARIO.

To Lori Gabriel-Dane,
Police are not trained to "face down crazed gunmen". I should know, I have 17 years in both military and Mohave County Law Enforcement. I am no longer a LEO because I was shot in the face in a gunfight with a kid. Police are trained exactly like any other trained gun owner shoot center mass. So, what if a 14-15 year old kid comes into a classroom and starts shooting kids? An armed and trained teacher would shoot back or die themself. I think watching kids being killed in front of you because you left your gun at home would be a heavier burden than shooting the intruder. Hesitation on the teachers part equates to calling 911 as the kids are being shot. Brutal image, but this only happens because there is no one there capable of stopping this right now. Let's try something different, something other countries are doing with good results. Btw, felons do not automaticaly get their 2nd Amendment rights back after 5 years.

Hey Lori, bet you I can go back and find really recent comments where you have stated that "obama does not want to take your guns"
Now you use the word "ALL". What's it going to be next week? You gun grabbers are always moving the goal posts.

"we practice shooting at targets and Skeet shoot."

Sure you do. LoL

"rifles used for hunting,"

Sorry, I don't hunt. Each and every gun I own only has one purpose.......killing humans. And that includes any human who ever knocks on the door demanding that I give it up for the "good of society". LoL.

"But it wouldn't hurt for you to give up your assault weapons....."

Yes it would, especially since you, like all gun grabbers, refuse to tell us exactly what an "assualt weapon" is. Why is it you can never do that Lori?

"gun-totin' citizens"

Actually, it's "gun toting". I notice that leftist clowns like you and AN love to be cute and use what you regard as "hick" English as a way to denigrate others.

The CT shooting stories are already off the front page. Soon things will be back to normal. People, especially politicians, will move on when they cannot get any more media face time from it.

LOL

@Rick O'Shea

"She claims she is a gun owner..."

I quit believing that bit of Lori BS long ago. LoL

stokes, grain is a measurement of weight, not mass and volume, .22 bullets are made mostly of lead while .223 bullets contain more copper plated steel which are both lighter. if the grain of the bullet had anything to do with the size of the bullet, you wouldnt be able to have a different grain on the same chamber of bullet. so, the weight has no relation to the size. a .223 can have grains ranging from 50-90, higher weight, same size bullet, as with any ammunition. just go grab a .22 and a .223 and you will see what im saying.

Just knowing that teachers may be armed is enough to stop a mass shooting. Almost all mass shootings take place in a NO GUN ZONE.
Lets say a shooter come in to the school to kill as many as he/she can. A teacher stops him after he has shot 2 or 3 and the teacher also hits another kid. That is a lot less than 20 or more. But a person trained to shoot most likely will not miss. But again just knowing teachers may be armed will stop a mass shooter. Works very well in Israel.
Once you allow one type of gun to be taken away, they will start on the next type until they have taken all away. We have already lost the fourth amendment with NDAA. The first amendment is pretty much gone and they are still working kill it completely
The Executive Orders say the government can take all you own and put you in a work camp with no trial of any kind, just as the did with the Japanese Americans in WW2.
Once guns or gone we will be a communist country and we are pretty close to that now.

Below are a few incidents that have happened in the last few years where armed civilians stopped mass murders

A 1997 high school shooting in Pearl, Miss., was halted by the school's vice principal after he retrieved the Colt .45 he kept in his truck. • A 1998 middle school shooting ended when a man living next door heard gunfire and apprehended the shooter with his shotgun. •
A 2002 terrorist attack at an Israeli school was quickly stopped by an armed teacher and a school guard. •
A 2002 law school shooting in Grundy, Va., came to an abrupt conclusion when students carrying firearms confronted the shooter. •
A 2007 mall shooting in Ogden, Utah, ended when an armed off-duty police officer intervened. •
A 2009 workplace shooting in Houston, Texas, was halted by two coworkers who carried concealed handguns. •
A 2012 church shooting in Aurora, Colo., was stopped by a member of the congregation carrying a gun. •
At the recent mall shooting in Portland, Ore., the gunman took his own life minutes after being confronted by a shopper carrying a concealed weapon.
2500 times last year alone legal gun owners stopped violent crime when confronted with it long before any police assistance could arrive. Of course, you probably didn't know any of this because mainstream media doesn't find it worth reporting. It's not sensational enough and doesn't fit with their agenda. What's insane is people who think removing rights from responsible people will somehow keep them safe.

Under Obama, gun-totin' citizens are now allowed to openly carry their guns into National parks, and even to political events. What makes any of you think he'd want to take ALL your guns away from you? You've been listening to the fearmongering of Fox News and the NRA much too long. You have more freedom to carry a gun now than under any other president. So quit your whinning about Obama wanting to take ALL your guns away. That will never happen. But it wouldn't hurt for you to give up your assault weapons and your extended magazines in exchange for you keeping all your other guns, now would it? Just like with taxes, let's even the playing field with our guns. Hand guns, rifles used for hunting, and shotguns will never be banned.

In Los Angeles, more than 2,000 guns were given up during their "buy-back program" in exchange for food. 75 of those guns were assault weapons. Some people do believe that necessities take priority over guns. Apparently, that would never be the case in Kingman. Seems like guns take priority over all else here in Kingman.

My daughter lives in the middle of the desert. When we are out there, we practice shooting at targets and Skeet shoot. But if I was facing someone with a gun, that scenario would become a life and death situation, and only a fool would not be scared.

As for armed teachers, what if the crazed person shooting a gun is a 14-15 year old (or younger) student at that school that the teacher knows. Will the teacher be willing to kill him/her? That is really putting a heavy burden on that teacher. And any hesitation on the teacher's part could prove fatal, not only for the teacher, but for others in that school.

Why do gun owners insist on believing that ALL liberals want to ban ALL guns? We don't. But common sense warrants the banning of certain assault weapons, along with high-capacity magazines. Too bad if it takes longer to reload your weapons at the gun range, as one poster mentioned. We also believe that the mental health issue has to be addressed. Also, after five years of being released from prison, convicted felons regain the right to own any type of gun. This, too, should be changed. Felons can never again vote, but they can own a gun? This makes absolutly no sense to me.

I as a volunteer at the schools I do not want teachers or administrators or anyone other than law enforcement officers to be armed. Teachers are there to teach not play sharp shooter.

I trust my life and those youngsters I work with to trained law enforcement officers not a stressed educator. Yes, I know it takes them a few minutes to get on campus. That's the price we have to pay to continue to allow rapid firing weapons of mass destruction.

Article comment by: Why insult anyone?

Theres an easy and lowcost solution on local levels that could give instant results without having to "train" anyone.

Parents. Come together and hire off duty policemen to come plain clothed or not to school. I knew alots of officers that took advantage of any side work.

Most officers I knew would work for very fair rates that included alot of no charge extra efforts. Best thing you have a trained professional that wears a vest and hits the target with accuracy.

I know everyone is broke. But think about it. Combined all the parents could probably hire daily officers year long for a few hundred dollars a month . Lets say a pool of officers shared 10-15k a year working off days at school. That amount divided by ALL the parents of a school would probably be ridiculously cheap per parent.

This worked 25 years ago in michigan for a safety patrol program.

It sure would put something to think about in the minds of someone planning a school attack.
