The Questions: Miner photographer and gun owner JC Amberlyn when to Gun Appreciation Day at On Target Enterprises. She asked the following questions:

1. What brought you to gun appreciation day? Are you going to buy a gun? If so, what kind?
2. Do you believe Obama wants to take away your Second Amendment rights?
3. Are there any portions of his recent proposals and executive actions that do make sense to you?

Susan Breen's Answers
1. I came (with children) to show support. I don't know if I'm going to buy one.
2. Yes.
3. Absolutely not. He has no right to override our constitutional rights. The Second Amendment is in place to protect us from a tyrannical government.

Bob Pressler's Answers
1. I have one (semi-automatic gun) on order but I don't know if I'll get it or not. I had ordered it three days prior to the Newtown shootings but I don't know if I'll get it now. They were backlogged then and they're even more backlogged now. I'm here selling tickets to the Mohave County Friends of the NRA Annual Dinner on March 16 at the Powerhouse. (Raffle tickets for a Smith & Wesson handgun are also available at On Target.)
2. Definitely. He won't admit it, but that's his agenda.
3. Somehow they should tie in mental health records of some places. If a guy has mental health problems there's a risk there. I don't know how it would ever happen, (maybe) background checks at gun shows. Though, that leads into a lot of other problems. Neighbor selling to neighbor - you can't prevent that, you can't track that, and I don't believe that should be illegal. It's my personal property. The issue ought to be the economy and jobs but because of a nutcase with a gun here we are again with turmoil over guns.

Danny Mergell's Answers
1. No, I'm here helping Pierre (the owner of On Target) ... and to show support.
2. Yes, I do. The man is a socialist and a liar. He came to the TV the other day saying "I want to protect the children" but there are no seat belts on buses, for instance. He doesn't want armed guards in schools but his kids have security guards.
3. I can see them looking at the whackadoos - but I don't see him doing enough. It's all superficial - it affects the law abiding (citizens) more than the criminals.

Where's the mindset of these people - a day to "appreciate" devices specifically designed to kill.

And as long as you have devices made to kill people that allow 10s of bullets to shot within minutes you will have horrendous mass shootings.

Yea, come on gun nuts please explain why you couldn't take your loves into the Phoenix guns show. Could it be that even the leaders of the gunners know that Guns Do Kill People or would the hall not have any of those Good People with Guns just a hall full of Bad People with Guns.

Well guess the gun shops are smiling all the way to the bank laughing at how silly some folks are to panic at everything they read in the media, seems many were buying years and years wotth of food that will likely spoil before they can eat it all in fear of Dec. 21, 2012, that doomsday came and went and someone now thinks America is on verge of collapse due to this eternal debate on gun control! Seems when the 16 year old girl shot up the school yard from her bedroom window this same panic occured, assualt weapons were banned when Reagan was shot with a cheap revolver, often called a saturday night special, the girl who shot up the school yard used a semi-automatic hunting rifle, I believe it was a .22 or .223 cal., cannot remember since that happened back in 1980s, now a shooting in Texas will no doubt make many panic these things happen almost daily the media gins them up like they are new!

You would think that if Obama wanted to destroy America, he would do the opposite and encourage more guns! What better way to create upheaval.

“@Ansons Nephew….So how is a Military style rifle any more dangerous than a non-military style semi-automatic. Does being scary looking make it so?”

Why are you addressing this nonsense to me?

“And why you gun-grabbers keep pretending that the 2nd Amendment has something to with hunting.”

Again – why are you addressing this nonsense to me? I am not a “gun-grabber.” In fact all I have ever said here is that changes are coming to the gun laws in this nation – that’s it! I don’t know what, but changes are coming.

"You owe your President an apology"

Your president, never mine.

Easily found on the nedt:

"As a state senator in Illinois, President Obama opposed legislation providing an exception to handgun restrictions if the weapon was used in the defense of one’s home.

Obama’s vote would have maintained the status quo, which made it a violation of municipal gun ban law to use a firearm to save your own life in your own home. But the bill was passed anyway without his support.

The vote is a sign of how committed Obama may be to strict gun control measures."

Play all the games you wish. obama does not have to stand up and declare he wants all our guns. He has shown in the past he does not believe in gun ownership for citizens. What makes you think he has changed?

"Gun now i still beleave that i should have riights to my semi auto pistol but a military style rifle. Come on really what do u hunt with that a herd."

So how is a Military style rifle any more dangerous than a non-military style semi-automatic. Does being scary looking make it so?

And why you gun-grabbers keep pretending that the 2nd Amendment has something to with hunting. The number of non-hunting gun owners outnumbers the ones who hunt.

You do know that the overwhelming majority of people killed with guns are not shot with "military style rifles", right?

Article comment by: Nice headline

Ms Amberlyn,

"Obama wants your guns".

As a gun person that is sane I ask you this. Prove it. Show me anywhere that President Obama states " I want your guns". For that matter Show me anywhere he says your guns will be taken from you. I want you to prove to me President Obama said or has written Guns will be taken from American citizens.

Please. Your in this business to prove things arent you? I just want to see you or anyone prove that the feds are going to come to a persons home asking them to give up firearms due to something the President said.

Fact is you cant. President Obama has Not said one time that guns would be "collected, confiscated, or taken" from anyone under any new law that is being proposed.

You owe your President an apology. All this article has done is plant negative influence and given people more reason to panic to buy guns. Some of whom are starving their families to do so due to unwarranted fear. From the administrator: JC Amberlyn did not write the headline, she merely asked the question and wrote down the answers. Her opinion of the president and what he may or may not do is not included. By the way, the headline is correct in terms of what those who were interviewed said.

Article comment by: Doing Research

Whatever it was I wrote that was so offensive:
A) was brilliant, too
B) pointed out that statistically, "Gun Appreciation Day" was bound to include the accidental shootings. Which it did, and that's what the media picked up on.

Whoever thought up this idea is making us (yes, me too) gun owners look bad.

The fact that so few of you support a thoughtful, legal way to find a nice middle ground make us look crazy and undermine the work people like me try to do to sell anti-gun people that guns aren't evil if respected. You make life harder for yourselves when you try and "dig in to fight" over this. Use the LAW to make change to the law! Fight fire with fire - not firearms!

The exact same thing could be said for those such as yourself who watch only CNN, MSNBC, CBS and ABC.

I will not hold my breath waiting for you to actually produce quotes from any FOX news where reporters have claimed that.

As to O'Reilly and "the like" (whatever "the like" means. lol), again, let's see the quotes.

So if your right have you ever heard of the MILITIA act of 1903 It divides the militia into three distinct and separate entities

Federal meaning The armed forces ,

The State Meaning the National Guard ,

And the Civilian meaning us the civilian Militia.

The MILITIA ACT of 1903... CAN'T BE REPEALED - Protection Against Tyrannical Government"

Also known as the Dick Act, and do some more research, it was already over ridden. Sorry.

@HER'S MINE AND OURS Mr. C,

"What has become all to common, is the indiscriminate taking of innocent life's. Which leads me to another question, Why?"

Much less common than in the good old days. Actually, it was more common in 1929, the peak year for mass killings.

"Grant Duwe, a criminologist with the Minnesota Department of Corrections who has written a history of mass murders in America, said that while mass shootings rose between the 1960s and the 1990s, they actually dropped in the 2000s. And mass killings actually reached their peak in 1929, according to his data. He estimates that there were 32 in the 1980s, 42 in the 1990s and 26 in the first decade of the century.

Chances of being killed in a mass shooting, he says, are probably no greater than being struck by lightning."

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/12/15/mass-shootings-not-on-the-rise_n_2308493.html

So since violent gun crime has actually gone down, why would we need more gun control laws?

But hey Skeezix, nice try and thanks for playing. Better luck next time.

LOL

@Fox Hound

This story is about an event for people who appreciate guns, being held at a local gun store. The reporter was interviewing the attendees of the gun appreciation event. No where did the reporter state that it was a scientific poll of the people of Kingman. Nor is the reporter required to present alternative viewpoints the counter the ones held by people at the event who appreciate guns.

If you don't like reading pro-gun viewpoints, don't read articles about gun appreciation day.

I respect the office of POTUS. But, like an Officer of a superior rank, I salute the rank and not the person.

The 2008 Supreme Court ruling does settle the issue as the law of the land. The US Supreme Cpurt does exactly what the Arizona Constitution means when it recognizes the USSC as the "law of the land". However comma special interest groups and the entitleists will circumvent whatever they need or want to accomplish their agenda. Proof? Gee...the 2008 decision that now apparently means nothing.
OCR...you are absolutely correct concerning "Obama" and his agenda.
