Kingman Letter: Rights, wrongs found in the Bible

While the argument rages on about gun control, I have to agree that no private citizen needs an assault rifle. I do, however, believe in the Second Amendment. I don't believe that making more gun laws is the answer. I remember an old bumper sticker that read, "If you outlaw guns, only outlaws will have guns."

The answer is going to ruffle some feathers. Friends, like it or not our country was founded on Christian values, morals and principles. (Look at history books before they were edited to exclude religious references 50 years ago.) The laws of this nation should be enforced with those same values and morals in mind. Many of the state constitutions even had stipulations that all public office holders must be Christians.

Nobody can say that our society is better off than it was when God was in schools and a central part of the family unit. People need to remember that just because America is a Christian nation, not everybody has to be a Christian, attend worship, or even believe in God. That is the choice of the individual.

Living in a free country does not mean that we can do whatever we want; that only results in anarchy, which is where we are headed.

There are absolute rights and wrongs. We need to stand for them. They are found in the Bible.

Steve McCall

There is a whole long story about how King James's church leaders prayed to god for understanding when they didn't know how to translate certain passages from the Latin bible---which had already been translated several times from Aramaic and Hebrew into Greek and from Greek into Latin. The only "biblical passages" that could be even close to their original form were the dead sea scrolls, and those are not in English, either. So how many of those ancient languages do you people speak in order to say that the bible is translated 99% accurately? Can you read it in the original?

David Barton's one book was pulled by Thornkton(I think is the name), it was "Jefferson's Lies/Lies of Jefferson") because of some dispute of facts between Barton and the publisher and others who just don't like the books put out that keep our country on the straight!
We have gotten so far off the narrow path and so far from God I don't know that this nation can ever come back to what it once was.
Linda is right, it is each individual's choice whether to accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior or to deny him. You have to confess your sins and ask his forgivness-and you can't do that over and over for the same sin!! Do it or don't-it's up to each one but, it the Father of his offspring's responsibility to provide his children with spirtual guiedance while they are growing up-Well, you don't find that happening enough these days!

Well, Anson and Dr. Hurd, I'll throw this into the fray (although it doesn't constitute support for the unsupportable - a reference to a couple LA postings in the past).....extrapolating from Old Testament prophecies which are being included for derision here, Messiah would have to be born in Bethlehem, spend time as a child in Egypt but then settle in Nazareth, get betrayed by a friend for 30 pieces of silver, and be put to death with descriptive words matching a crucifixion. Furthermore, his entry into Jerusalem is stated from the Book of Daniel in terms of the 360-day Babylonian calendar, to be a set number of years from when the Persian ruler Artaxerses would issue the order for rebuilding Solomon's Temple. That date translated into April 6th 32 A.D., the day when Jesus told doubters along the way, "If you only knew the day of your visitation..." I do realize that these prophecies have been interpreted differently. It's amazing to me what debaters and other "thinkers" can do with the same words. But for once here, maybe we can get the limelight off a flawed poster and even more flawed online references (David Barton, for one), and take a look at how Jesus himself seems to have appropriated the Bible.

Lori:

But you don't believe in hell so why would these verses mean anything to you?

If you read all of the Bible, you would see a loving God who never gives up on His creation but NEVER forces you to choose Him. It is always YOU who have to accept Him into your own heart period. It is the ONLY way He laid out. I can hand you a dime but without you reaching out and taking it into your hand, it stays in my hand.

His point here is some will accept Him and some will not and that will split families up undoubtedly. And He makes it clear there is a price to pay for those who are not born again. Just letting you know the options. Plenty choose to not accept Him obviously because. like you. plenty don't even believe He exists.

Sadly, it is so very common for non-believers to pick out verses like this, take them out of context and portray God as a monster. Sometime, try reading through the New Testament and see how many times Jesus healed everyone, then hung on a cross and died for their sins. See how many times He said He loved the people, saved them in a fiery pit, stilled the ocean for them, fed the 5000 and on and on and on.

Then study death by crucifixion. You suffocate, your shoulders go out of joint and stay that way, your body pulls up and you cannot take a deep breath, you dehydrate and if you are lucky, they stab you before the end to make it go faster.

Patty Hertz:

The entire Bible was written by men through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit.

It fits together perfectly, something you would already know if you knew anything at all about it.

Studies have been done and no matter how translated, it is like 99% accurately translated. The canons of Rome? No.

The oldest known written code of law is the Code of Hammurabi in the early second millennium (circa 1800 BCE).

Interestingly, of the 150 surviving (readable) inscribed laws we can find 9 of the earlier "10 commandments." We find dozens of the added laws demanded to be obeyed in Deuteronomy. I used to assign students to find the "commandments" and for extra credit check-off the similar verses in Deuteronomy.

You aren't aware that it is a world wide joke about the award obama is getting in Israel? He hates Israel. His fifth year as POTUS and he is FINALLY being forced to visit there. You don't recall his words about Netanyahu to the French President?

Like the award he got in Scandinavia....for doing nothing...had just become POTUS.

And then there were those two autobiographies he was commissioned to write on something else....and wrote them both about himself.

Hahahahaha. He is a sick joke but sicker are you lemmings following him over a cliff....never looking at the daily lies from obama....like running us into the worst debt in the history of the world and then saying....darn, we've got to get this spending down.

How about sequestration? HIS IDEA and now he stands there and blames it's arrival on everyone but himself. AND YOU BELIEVE HIM!!! Sick to the max.

"We actually saved many tribes from extinction when other tribes were wiping them out."

Yeah and totally messed up the natural life cycles of more than just the Indians. Look at Montana as an example. Had the Indians used the same philosophy on the white man, that the people of Montana are using to eradicate or control the wolf population, then the wolves wouldn't a problem. It was the settlers that over hunted the land, now they complain the wolves are killing their livestock. DUH!

" We led many Indians to the Lord so they went on to heaven rather than the other place their false religion was leading them."

Who are you or anyone for that matter to tell anyone they have a false religion. That's the problem with the white people.

To Linda Athens:

You wrote, "Always the Gentleman, God doesn't force Himself on you. If He did, He would be like false prophets....believe or be beheaded kind of thing. '

God/Jesus DID force themselves upon man by saying this:

"Think not that I am come to send peace on earth. I came not to send peace, but a sword. For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law. And a man's foes shall be they of his own household. He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me. He that findeth his life shall lose it: and he that loseth his life for my sake shall find it." (Matthew 10:32-39)

So God/Jesus ARE "false prophets" according to what you said. They did not behead people that didn't believe in them, instead, they forced themselves upon people by threatening the damnation in the fires of Hell for all eternity to whoever did not totally devote themselves to them. Let's see, should I follow God or face an eternity in the Lake of Fire... hmmmm. Hard decision, isn't it?

Always the gentleman? God will break the pride of our power and make our heaven as iron, and our earth as brass. He will send wild beasts among us to rob us of our children, send a pestilence among us, make us eat the flesh of our sons, and the flesh of our daughters...." and on and on and on. (Leviticus 26: 19-36)

Doubt anyone posting here for or against the bible has much authority on sin, righteousness or truth, guess when all is done and said, no one posting here is walking on water, at best some might be packing them camels heavy with their possessions, getting ready for the trip to try and go through the eye of that needle, the rest will be walking, some might chose the right patn when they reach that fork in the road, some will chose that not so good one wide and easy, some will be fortunate and chose the narrow and hard one! Takes no rocket scientist to guess whose going to go where!

“David Barton is reknowned for his work and expertise…”

Actually Barton is renowned for being a liar who has had his books pulled by the publisher for being full of lies. Barton has also admitted on his own website that he filled his books with lies. He is a charlatan and a liar and I have posted many times here in response to another misguided soul just what a liar Barton is. His books are self-published screeds, full of misinformation, because no legitimate publisher will touch his garbage.

How curious to presuppose that God is a man.

“And Christianity is not religion…”

Really? Well it is good to see that you now recognize Christianity and Christians for what they are.

“A few more years of Obama and I am thinking a great awakening just might take hold.”

Yes, it will and part of that wakening will be the end of the Republicans for time and all eternity.

“I have nearly finished the book - easily worth $1000.”

Wow! A THOUSAND DOLLARS? Will you now sell it and split your good fortune with the person who sold it to you? LOL

The bible, particularly the New Testament, was pieced together by the Canons of Rome, to gain scriptural authority over Gnostics. That was in and around c.180.Leaving out hundreds and hundreds of manuscripts including the book of Judas. The Bible has been through several "translations" the most recent in 1604 by authority of King James VI under the pressure of the Puritans of England. The translation was done by 47 scholars, all of whom were members of the Church of England. If you know anything of history, the Church of Rome and England held (holds) all the political power. Sound suspicious? It should. Follow all you sheep, to the slaughter.

First, We do need weapons such as AR15's to stand tyranny from inside or outside the country, who knows what UN and Mexican government are up to, specially when our Federal government wants them to call some of the shots.
Second, I have heard parents say that they will not teach their kids any religion so they can choose for themselves, problem with that is if you don't teach your kids the ,schools will brain wash your kids in to atheism.

@ Steve McCall, Except for four years spent attending a Parochial school, my personal guidance in reference to religion and God came from several source's, Reinforced Indirectly from friends, perhaps a neighbor, druggist just ordinary people as a rule.

Sundays, how ever were not just another day around our home. Early on, Sunday School sufficed until my younger brother/sister and I grew older, then Church replaced Sunday School. Except for short duration here and there, Church was sporadic and the churches were not always of the same beliefs or practices. Which today strain some beliefs I had as a young man, because of that one friend remarked, "I had to many Religions"

Point is, placing some sort of mandate for schools to put God back in, violates the Constitution and gives ammunition to those who have different views. Which in turns, only confuses the very ones we would like to educate. A retired U.S. Supreme court justice, framed the issue this way, she felt Civic education should be reintroduced and become a part of today's curriculum's because Many school Dist: today, no longer teach the subject.

Men/Women who help shape this country, are in these books, knowledge of who those people were and how they lived their life's, may give this generation a sense of right from wrong, right beside the bible and how one man lived out he's life. The Justice in case you might be interested, was the Honorable Sandra Day O'Connor.
