Letter: The president who would be king

King George III of England imposed restrictions, proclamations and taxation on the American colonies.

The Proclamation Line of 1763: Colonists were forbidden to advance settlements beyond the peaks of the Allegheny Mountains (in belief many would move away from the established cities, thus reducing the tax base; also to reserve land-speculation and fur-trading opportunities for English rather than colonists).

The Sugar Act (1764): Eliminated trade between the colonies and the West Indies (imposing duties on many items; providing for more effective tax collection).

The Stamp Act: All legal documents, newspapers, printers, publications, permits, licenses, etc. were required to have an official stamp and be taxed. Repealed in 1766, replaced by The Declaratory Act, giving Parliament sweeping new taxing powers over the colonies.

The Mutiny Act (1765): Ordered the colonists to provide housing and supplies for British troops in America.

The Tea Act (1773): Permitted only the East India Tea Co. to retail its product in America without payment of new taxes, thus allowing direct sales to consumers, effectively driving colonist merchants out of business (result: Boston Tea Party).

The Coercive Acts (1774): Aimed only at Massachusetts as a result of the Boston Tea Party, essentially closing the port of Boston.

The Quebec Act (1774): Provoked fear that Catholicism and Anglicanism were about to merge, thereby subjecting Americans to a Roman Catholic/Church of England domination over their Protestantism; also reinforced the land policy of the Proclamation Line of 1763.

The Conciliatory Propositions (1775): Colonies are to tax themselves at Parliament's demand rather than be taxed directly by Parliament. The Conciliatory Propositions reached America after the first shots of revolt were fired at Lexington Common.

So, how does this relate to King Obama I? Departments under his authority in the executive branch, that is, the Departments of Health and Human Services, Energy, Housing and Urban Development, Agriculture and Interior are, without Congressional oversight, feverishly creating new bureaucratic rulings that will force payment of billions of dollars in new job-ending, business-crushing permit fees, license fees, user fees and taxes.

“Obama has ignored the Constitution and has added more regulations than any other president except, perhaps, FDR. This is a fact.”

Nope, no facts in the above. The Criminal added more regulations than any president in history – except for FDR. And please provide some verifiable proof that Obama has “ignored the Constitution?” Thank you.

@ DG

“Why not, your prez' uses that technique all the time and you democrats buy it hook-line-and sinker!”

Also untrue.

And BTW – Obama won, deal with it!

@OKR

I don't care who you were addressing, your statement was ridiculous - too ridiculous to not illicit a reaction.

And are you referring to this "super scientific" look at "regulations" from CSN?
http://cnsnews.com/news/article/under-obama-11327-pages-federal-regulations-added

The number of PAGES it takes to describe a law doesn't actually equate to the number of laws - and even if it did, that still doesn't mean anything. Laws with longer descriptions are designed that way so that agencies implementing them have less leeway in interpreting them. This is called specificity.

Second, by "regulations" do you mean laws? I'm sorry to break it to you, but Congress passes laws... and isn't passing too many these days.
http://usatoday30.usatoday.com/news/washington/story/2012-08-14/unproductive-congress-not-passing-bills/57060096/1

So A) you seem to be wrong, and B) you seem to be overinflating the situation.

You know what I really enjoy? Remember the game that's played with a circle of people where you tell the first one something and they tell the next one the same thing until it goes around the circle and comes back to you? Only it is nothing like you told the first person. So it goes here. Someone writes something and by h time a few have had a chance at it, it does not vaguely resemble the authors comments or point. To quote one of the today's foremost authorities, "pathetic".

It is unfortunate, but I believe our country has become a "dumbed down society", only interested in "hand outs" from the Govt. They "worship" a "False Prophet" like Obama, follow him blindly, believe every word he speaks! They like him because he "smiles" and appears to be a good man, people must do research on this man's background, the people he admired like Rev Wright (Obama obviously lied when he said he never heard the Rev's hate speeches in the 21 yrs he belonged to his Church), and Bill Ayers. The Main Street Media never did, Obama was given a total pass in 2008, the Liberal Media saw him as the "second coming"! Now that he was re-elected, his second term should be called "Obama Unchained", this man is arrogant and petulant. Instead of working with Congress to solve our #1 problem facing our nation, which has been the economy, he spends the time on Obama Care, the gun issue, and immigration. Can our great nation survive four more yrs of Obama (or) "eight" more yrs (the Dear Leader might try for a "third term, who knows what this man will do)!!

So what "FREE STUFF" did Obama hand out to buy votes? He has simply continued the programs that were all started by previous presidents.

When the English-speaking colonists arrived in the New World they brought with them the ideas and customs they knew in England, including the "Poor Laws." The first colonial poor laws were fashioned after those of the Poor Law of 1601.

Immediately following the Civil War there were more disabled or survivors of deceased breadwinners than at any time in America's history. This led to the development of a generous pension program, with interesting similarities to later developments in Social Security. (The first national pension program for soldiers was actually passed in early 1776.

Following the Crash of 1929, unemployment exceeded 25% about 10,000 banks failed the Gross National Product declined from $105 billion in 1929 to only $55 billion in 1932. (It would take 25 years for the stock market to return to its pre-crash level following the 1929 crash.) In order to help the unemployed and destitude, Roosevelt establish two important programs:

Social Security Retirement Act was signed into law by Roosevelt in 1935.

Unemployment Insurance Compensation was signed into law in 1939 by Roosevelt.

And to help seniors and the disabled with medical costs, Medicare was signed into law in 1965 by President Johnson.

Then there's the ridiculous conspiracy theory about Obama's "Free Phones," "President Obama has no direct impact on the program, and one could hardly call these devices "Obama Phones," as this specific program, SafeLink, started under President George Bush, with grants from an independent company created under President Bill Clinton, which was a legacy of an act passed under President Franklin Roosevelt, which was influenced by an agreement reached between telecommunications companies and the administration of President Woodrow Wilson." My comment wasn't addressed to you. If you read again, you will see that my comment preceded yours.

The federal government has grown too large and has assumed too much power over the states and the people. Obama has ignored the Constitution and has added more regulations than any other president except, perhaps, FDR. This is a fact.

Ms Athens

“No, not a majority and you forget - he threw this election, got millions of illegal donations for overseas the election before …”

And yet no matter how many times you have been asked you have been unable to provide proof of those ridiculous assertion

And once again even if you win by only one vote out of a million (i.e 500,001 to 499,999) THAT IS a majority.

“He is mentally unbalanced I am convinced …”

Actually the only evidence of someone being mentally unbalanced shows here regularly, spewing nonsense about the president.

Mr Gaither

“One small problem with your statement... Obama ‘bought’ the presidency with all his "free stuff" policies.”

And much like Ms Athens, you have no proof whatsoever.

Mr Smith

“We believe this man is a ‘False Prophet’.”

Who is “we” and actually Obama is not a prophet of any sort (prophets are those fools that believe in cults rely upon), Obama is the President of the United States, elected – twice – by a majority of Americans.

@Linda:

"No, not a majority and you forget - he threw this election."

In 2008 Obama won with 52.93% of the vote.
In 2012 Obama won with 51.06% of the vote.

Now my math is a little rusty, but last I checked both of those figures represent a majority of the vote. If you don't believe me, look it up yourself. I have no idea what you mean by throwing the election.

Just because you keep repeating something, it doesn't make it true.

"No, not a majority and you forget - he threw this election,"

Linda, we have been over this already, he did in fact win the majority of the vote and he could not have possibly thrown the election, that would imply that he lost, and clearly he did not. You are beginning to remind me of my 10 year old nephew who has to have something explained to him every day.

We are tired of the "Overexposure" of the Obamas and his "daily" speech / sermon. We now "mute" the audio when he appears on "daily" TV appearance, cannot listen to him anymore! We believe this man is a "False Prophet". What we have in this administration is the "Chicago Mob"! GOD save our country from this man.

Ms Athens

“Forged his birth certificate,”

Nope

“… forged his selective service papers…”

Nope

“… is using someone else's social security number.”

Nope

“Already all verified.”

Nope. No matter how many times you post these falsehoods they it will always be lies – every day – every week – every month – and every year.

“Dream Act would be one.”

Not Obama’s idea, came from McCain originally and supported by Rick Perry.

”He has committed tyranny many times. … most people suspect he is in the wrong but are not sure what it is he has done. He has done plenty.”

And yet you cannot provide one salient example. Why is that?

“The MSM simply edited out 9 or 10 words to cover for her blatant error. … and they were forced to take out ten words - just happened they took out the ten she said that were wrong.”

Link please? I cannot find any such reference. Thank you.

Read my previous post - you are kidding yourself if you think even half of the list of grievances from the Declaration of Independence are problems today. I ran out of space before putting even half of them...

How can you expect anyone to take your opinion seriously when you can't be objective?

Interesting to read so much hatred for American government one has to wonder how does some folks say they love America but hate the very government our forefathers founded, is it perfect no, has changes occured over time, yes if it had not we would have slavery today, women would not be able to vote, civil rights for many citizens would not exist due to prejudices, hatreds for one reason or another! I think the haters in America are just unhappy the constitution works it keeps them from descriminating against those whom they dislike and deem less than themselves and it surely has kept this great nation in one piece as the civil war proved secession is not a option! If one hates this countries government so much leave, find that utopian country you think exists some where else!

If he was King, the Country would not be held hostage by the tea party in the House of Representatives, or by the filibuster Senate Republicans, who used to cry on appointments, "up or down votes, no filibusters". Your analogy with King George lacks logic.

What a guy!! Hasn't got a decent, moral bone in his body. Lies every time he opens his mouth, especially on this latest - sequestration. He is mentally unbalanced I am convinced along with being a narcissist - or are they the same.

Thomas Jefferson was a deadbeat. He lived off his wife, never made any money of his own, owed creditors and was broke most of his life, and of course had tons of kids with slaves. And you people treat him like he was Jesus or something. Funny.

Maxine Waters has just said sequestration will cause the loss of 170 million jobs. That will be quite a feat since we only have 130 million to start with.

That Maxine. What a gal! Don't people like her make you proud to be an American? Right up there with Sheila Jackson Lee.

Bob Moore:

Forged his birth certificate, forged his selective service papers, is using someone else's social security number. Already all verified.

The list is a very long one and I don't have the time to list each one right now.

Dream Act would be one.

And as the true tyrant he is, after the 2010 elections, he made it clear anything he cannot legislate, he will instead regulate.

Problem is, the Executive Branch is not the lawmaker body of this Constitutional republic.

In 1689 and 1776 the type of overreach obama uses happened, it was called tyranny, an attempt to destroy liberty.

He has committed tyranny many times. With a left wing complicit MSM covering for his every move, most people suspect he is in the wrong but are not sure what it is he has done. He has done plenty. It will catch up with him one day.

Example: Mooochelle obama recently spoke of the young woman killed and made a wrong reference to the guns used. The MSM simply edited out 9 or 10 words to cover for her blatant error.

When confronted, they simply said it was a space issue and they were forced to take out ten words - just happened they took out the ten she said that were wrong.
